Quilted Puffer Vest Outfit with Striped Top & Leopard Flats

Hello, and happy Saturday! Welcome back to 26 Days of Fall Fashion! Today I’m styling a classic quilted puffer vest outfit with a long-sleeve striped tee and leopard flats. There’s nothing terribly original about this combination, but I really like how the colors and patterns all came together, and this might just be the perfect striped tee.

I was invited along with a group of local bloggers to shop the Philadelphia Premium Outlets a couple weeks ago. Once we were set loose to explore, I made a beeline for J.Crew Factory. I almost always find something good in there, and unlike many of the outlet retailers, they’re online so I can link to my purchases. I picked up this quilted puffer vest and stripe tee.

For years, I avoided vests like this because they don’t sit right on me, but then I discovered J.Crew quilted down vests. These fit so well that I bought two! I have them in black and red.

The pockets on this Factory version are a little different, and I think it’s more polyester than down, but I was drawn to this pretty shade of palm green and the great price.

These vests are the perfect weight for wearing indoors and out, and they have a classic styling that’s super versatile. (Here are some of my quilted puffer vest outfits from past years if you want more styling inspiration.) For size reference, I take a small in both styles.

I often wear my quilted puffer vests over sweaters with scarves when it gets colder, but I also like them over a long-sleeve striped tee for fall.

I wish I’d taken a picture without the vest so you can see how perfect this striped tee is. It’s made of a nice mid-weight cotton slub jersey, and it’s fitted without being tight. The neckline is wider than a crewneck but not as wide as a boatneck. Overall, it’s very flattering and easy to wear.

This tee perfect for wearing with this vest, but it’s also going to look great paired with long cardigans this fall and winter, and I would even wear it alone on milder fall days. For size reference, I have a small.

I wore my favorite distressed skinny jeans, and I added leopard flats to counter balance the casualness of the jeans.

SALE ALERT >> Bloomingdale’s is running Denim Days — save 15% off one pair of jeans and 25% off two or more. PLUS they’re running Triple Points for Lloyalists, and you earn up to a $600 Reward Card on qualifying purchases through 9/17.)

If you’re not signed up to be a Lloyalist, I highly recommend it. It’s free, no card required, and there are lots of great savings available to Lloyalists throughout the year plus free shipping.

I often shop during these Denim Days events. They have a lot of variations of my favorite AG legging jeans (which is what I’m wearing here) as well as the popular Paige Verdugo style and of course tons of other premium denim brands.

I’ve already talked about my love affair with these leopard flats. (These are eligible for the $25 Reward Card and Triple Points if you’re a Bloomies Lloyalist.)

These were my birthday gift from my mom this year, and I’ve been wearing them a lot now that the weather is cooler. They’re fun to wear all year-round, but I’m always particularly drawn to leopard in the fall.

I like the leopard flats with this outfit because it combines dressy and casual elements, which is a great way to keep it modern, plus stripes and leopard always create a fun pattern play.

I think every woman needs a pair of leopard flats in her fall wardrobe, and you can find them to fit all budgets. If you’re in the market for a great pair of leopard flats and you don’t want to pay Tory Burch prices, I also have and highly recommend the Sam Edelman Felicia Flats. Not only are they gorgeous, they are sublimely comfortable. I swear, they feel like slippers.

For an even more budget-friendly option, J.Crew Factory has this pair of leopard d’orsay flats that are really cute and on sale for $64, and Target has a pair of leopard ballet flats for $12.

I accessorized with gold. I love these beaded drop earrings, but they’re only available now in black.

Then I added a stack of Alex and Ani bangles, and I wore sunglasses with tortoise frames in shades of gold and brown.

I think this monogram pendant adds the perfect finishing touch to the outfit. I wanted something that would show up on the striped shirt, and it brings a touch of class to the whole ensemble.

Also, my watch is back in stock and on sale. I’ve had at least one person ask me about it. I really do love having a mixed metal watch, and this one is a nice size and weight for everyday.

My taupe ankle boots or Converse sneakers would work with this outfit as well, it just depends on where I’m going. If I was going to wear this outfit to a Friday night football game, I’d wear my Converse and probably some more casual accessories, but I really like the leopard flats and the initial pendant to dress it up a bit.

  1. I love the stripes and leopard print combination I’m going to try that! I was wondering if you could do a post about styling a denim skirt? I have just bought one and would love  some tips on styling it for autumn and winter

  2. I think this is one of my favourites of your fall days so far….. love the whole outfit and combos you’ve styled. I bought my pair of leopard flats at least five years ago or longer at the Bass shoe outlet. At first I thought , ok do these look like a sleeper? lol but I am soooo glad I bought them. And you can’t beat the comfort I could shop for hours in them ????. I can also say they look like the day I got them too, but I  would like to get another pair in a different style. Don’t think that leopard print is going anywhere too soon????
    Have a great weekend

  3. The second photo of you is stunning! You look flawless – make up, hair, smile, jewelry, and pose. The green vest is a pretty color and looks lovely on you.

I know you put a lot of work into your posts and although I don’t comment often, I so look forward to seeing what you style. Thank you for producing quality content for us, Jo-Lynne!

  4. This is the type of outfit I live in during the fall in South Texas. I can get by with wearing vests until almost Christmas and I have several, so I am glad to see they are still in style. I am also a sucker for a striped Tee so  I try to spread them out in my closet, so my husband doesn’t see how many I have ????. I love the combination you put together! Have a great weekend.

  5. I have to admit, I have a little bit of a puffer vest obsession. I dislike bulky coats in the car or being hot inside a store so I wear a puffer all fall and into winter. The green is gorgeous! Lands End has always had a nice puffer, although they changed the pockets a couple of years ago and I’m still clinging to one of my very old vests that is only good for yard work or an evening around the fire pit. Lots of colors and they have them for men, women and children– the same style– so no matter your size, you can find one that fits. My d-i-l wears the child’s size, lol.
LOVE the link to other ways you styled a puffer. It must be so much work for you to do this, Jo-lynne, but it’s a wonderful feature.
    Happy Saturday!

      1. The Lands End puffer vests I’ve purchased in the past are not very puffy– though I can see that they look like they are in the photos. And the fabric is soft. I have an old Gap black puffer I keep because it’s on the long side, but every time I put it on, I realize how stiff the almost “crackly” the fabric is.

  6. That vest is gorgeous, I love the color.  So refreshing to see a color other than black, khaki or blue!
    Have a great weekend.

  7. Another great outfit for Fall Jo-Lynne!  This far, I have not found leopard flats with arch support.  So frustrating!  I used to have a nice selection of puffer vests, but donated all of them because they made me so hot and were too bulky.  I am going to check out the JCrew Oultet online.  The fall like temps have decided to vacate GA.  I’m hoping they return soon, for good!  Have a great weekend!

  8. Perfection, Jo-Lynne! You nailed this casual outfit with a touch of class. Beautiful!

Also, thank you for your blog. I too look forward to receiving your email in my inbox each morning. I have searched other bloggers from time to time but have yet to find anyone that is as thorough as you are with your content. It is obvious that you put a lot of time and effort into your work and I just want you to know how much I appreciate it. You’re awesome at your job and I personally think you ROCK! Have a great weekend!

  9. This has got to be my favorite of the series so far, and very close to being an all time favorite from you. The colors/patterns are bold yet not too out there, and it is very much my style. In fact, I even have these exact pieces or very similar! You look fabulous in this from head to toe!

  10. Love the monogram necklace. Want to purchase as Birthday gift for my nearly adult daughter. How’s the quality? I see it is non-refundable and am wary. It looks lovely in photos but without seeing and touching in person, it’s hard to gauge. Would you say it is a quality, heirloom piece or more like cheap costume jewelry?

    1. Given the price I’m not expecting Cartier or something like that. I recently got some Kendra Scott pieces from N sale (based on your recommendation) and quite pleased. So is this necklace along the lines of Kendra Scott quality? Looking for a special gift for 18th bday.

      1. I am pleased with the quality. I have had some people ask if the gold turns, and it doesn’t. If it starts to look dingy, I can wipe it off. I keep it in a little mesh bag in my jewelry drawer so it doesn’t get banged up or scratched. The chain is verrry thin so I am careful with it but so far, I’ve had no issues. I’ve had it for about a year.

  11. I don’t comment very often but look forward everyday to your classy and modest
fashion. Thank you very much for your hard work. Love this whole outfit and is
typically what I would wear all Fall. The green puffer vest is awesome, have one in black. Keep up the great work you do everyday.

  12. This look is totally me. I REALLY have to get a pair of leopard flats! They really do go with everything! My son is playing football this year (grade 12) and this would be the perfect outfit to wear to work on Friday and then go straight to the game. 🙂

  13. This is a perfect fall outfit and the shoes kicked the outfit up a notch. Thanks so much for showing us how to wear a puffer vest without looking frumpy.

  14. I haven’t been to our outlet mall in about 10 years, but I trekked up today and got that shirt from J Crew.  I really like the weight of it.  Thanks for styling it for us!

  15. You look great in this outfit. I love everything about it. The proportions and style are spot on. I could wear this uniform almost every day in the spring and fall.
