Instagram Roundup 12.16.17

Good morning! I’ve got an Instagram Roundup for you today. This will be my last one before Christmas! Hard to believe, isn’t it???

There have been SOOOOO many pictures since my last IG Roundup that I’m going to pick and choose my favorites or ones that feature an item that’s on sale that I think you may want to know about. I’ll probably skip most of the ones that were already featured on the blog since you can easily scroll back thru those looks if you want to.

Don’t worry, there are still a ton. Like, grab a fresh cup of coffee… this will take a while!

Instagram Roundup 12.16.17

And for some reason, these pictures uploaded to this post in reverse chronological order. I realize no one cares, but it does aggravate my OCD tendencies to leave it this way. Oh well, let’s get started!

I mentioned a while back that I was getting caught up in the pressure to always have something new to show, or at least feeling like I shouldn’t share an outfit if it wasn’t all available for purchase, but I’m trying to let go of that because it’s stressful and isn’t real life. I still feel the need to apologize sometimes when I show something you can’t order, but I’m trying to get over that.

All that to say, there are some outfits in this post where a key piece is old, and I tried to link something similar, but sometimes I gave up and I just don’t have a link. Since my outfits tend to be pretty basic, my hope is you can use the color combinations as inspiration to shop your closet.

Case in point, the outfit I wore yesterday. It was cold and grey outside, so I threw on this bright pink cashmere sweater to offset the drab weather. This is the Equipment brand, and it came in a Trunk Club last winter. The boots are UGG, and they’re at least 5 years old. They’re shearling lined from top to bottom, and I usually wear them on the coldest of days. I love the combination of bright pink, medium wash denim, and grey.

I wore this next outfit one day this week. Yep, another v-neck sweater and jeans. As y’all know, this is pretty much my go-to winter uniform. This sweater is 25% off, or what is left of them. They’ve almost sold out. I’ve got the size small, and I really like the details in the knit and the shape of the v-neck. It’s not as form figuring as some of my sweaters so it does add some visual weight, but I like the ease of a slouchy sweater now and again. For size reference, I’m wearing a small. (I also really like the hthr rust.)

Also, these jeans are Articles of Society, and they’re $64. They’re pretty good for that price. I plan to feature them in an outfit post this week, and I’ll talk more about them then.

This wool/cashmere sweater from Ann Taylor is on major sale — 50% off the markdown price. It’s also available in grey and black (it is fully stocked in the black.) For size reference, I’m wearing a small.  Also, my velvet pants are 50% off. More of this look in THIS POST.

turtleneck (50% off) // velvet pants (50% off) // clutch // pumps (similar) // assorted Alex and Ani bangles // aviators c/o Ray-Ban

Here are a couple of looks I shared only on my Insta Story. Sometimes I don’t share my daily looks on my regular feed because I’m already posting a lot or they don’t look right on the grid. #yesIthinkaboutsuchthings

Anyway, I was all set to go to lunch with friends wearing this outfit, but my ankle was bothering me and the 2″ heel on the boots was aggravating it, so I changed at the last minute. Also, these AG jeans are only available in limited sizes, but I really like them b/c they have a 9″ rise. Most of my AG jeans are super low rise, which isn’t always the most comfortable.

LV Neverfull MM (an extravagant Christmas gift from my hubby last year)

I had already posted the above picture, and I felt disingenuous leaving the house in a different outfit, so I posted this one too and explained my last minute outfit change. Just trying to keep it real.

I think it’s interesting to compare the two outfits. I definitely feel like I look taller and thinner in the first one. The jeans are identical, but the OTK boots have a 2″ heel and the leopard flats are totally flat. Also the chunky turtleneck, even with a structured jacket on top, looks almost dowdy compared to the ribbed one with the wider open neckline… or maybe it’s just the shoes making all the difference. What do y’all think?

This is from a sponsored post that was on the blog earlier this week featuring Nike cold weather athletic wear. I also rounded up some great gift ideas if you have any active people you’re buying for this year — or if you’re in the mood for a little treat yo selfing!!! It’s amazing what new workout clothes will do for one’s motivation to get outside and exercise. Read more in THIS POST.

And this is a Nike jacket I didn’t feature in my Nike post, but it’s a great piece to have to pull on over workout clothes when going to and from the gym, and it looks nice enough if you need to run a few errands afterwards. I’ve already worn it that way a few times, and I also plan to wear it running when I need an extra layer. It has a lot of practical features as well as a flattering fit, which is a plus. I also love these pants. You can read more about them in my Nike post.

I shared this post on Instagram because this sweater is on such a good sale at Loft, and I think it makes a great little holiday piece. You can dress it up or down. I like it with jeans and pumps and a layer necklace, as shown here. The metallic clutch is a nice touch for a holiday outfit. Right now the sweater is $22 because today LOFT is doing an additional 10% off full price sweaters. (So that is 50% off plus 10% off that price!!!)

This dress is 50% off and still fully stocked in all sizes. Definitely size down in this one; it runs big.

This is another look I only shared on Instagram. I wanted to show these velvet pants. (I wore the pink ones in a this post.) These grey ones are great too, and I like how they work with this ivory embellished sweater.

The sweater is an old White House Black Market purchase, and I can’t find anything quite like it, so sorry about that! I don’t wear it often, but when I need it, I need it. (I usually wear it to one or two holiday events each season.) It has just the right amount of embellishment to be appropriate for more conservative occasions, and the fit is really nice.

WHBM does a great job with festive sweaters, and right now their entire store is 40% off, which is pretty much unheard of for them. I know it’s not ivory, but festive sweaters is another good example of one that I would buy and wear once or twice a holiday season. I like that it’s conservative, but festive.

I wore this to the mall one day. It’s pretty much my uniform for running around town this time of year. Of course now it’s too cold for just a leather jacket, but we had some nice mild winter weather for a few weeks there.

leather jacket (25% off) // sweater in hthr rust (25% off) // jeans (similar for less) // shoes (33% off) // crossbody (33% off) // sunnies c/o Maui Jim // nails: CND Midnight Swim

I wore this to church last Sunday. It was snowy and messy so I opted for my UGG boots and a cozy turtleneck. I found these aubergine skinnies in a box in the attic where I’d saved them from last year. Love it when that happens! Of course that means they’re old and I can’t link them. The black turtleneck sweater was a Vince purchase that I got at a great sale price, but it’s gone now so I’ll link to something similar.

I shared this older picture because this sweater just went on major sale. It’s a really nice quality knit, plus I just love the lighting in this picture. It’s super flattering. If only skin really looked this fresh and dewy!

Another variation of my favorite outfit… this time with a suede moto rather than the leather jacket.

suede moto // jeans // sweater in hthr rust (25% off) // booties (similar for less) // coin necklace

This post was on the blog earlier in the month, but I just want to plug this v-neck sweater. It’s such a nice quality and comes in a lot of great colors.

cashmere v-neck (49% off) // hat // scarf // jeans

This sweater is another oldie but goodie that I keep holding onto. I don’t keep a lot of clothes from one season to the next because of this blog, but there are some pieces like this one and the embellished ivory one above that I just can’t part with.

These shoes are the L.K. Bennett oxblood suede pumps I featured a while back in a collaboration with Zappo’s, and the earrings also have a deep burgundy stone in them. Unfortunately this picture doesn’t really feature them very well.

I wore this outfit to our ladies’ Christmas tea at church. At an event like that, it seems everyone wears red, so I always try to do something different. I like the grey with the oxblood accents for an understated but still (hopefully?) festive look.

This look was on the blog few weeks ago. The scarf sold out, but the sweater is fully stocked in this color. It’s super cozy, soft, and stretchy. Size down at least one size in this. It runs very large.

cardigan // tee // jeans // booties (not shown)

I’m kind of amazed this cowl neck tunic is still fully stocked. Of course, it’s not on sale either, but it’s not a bad price for the quality, and it’s a really pretty piece that comes in quite a few color options. Also I love and highly recommend these leggings. More of this look in THIS POST.

cowl neck sweater // Hue blackout leggings // similar bracelet // earrings

I feel bad sharing this picture because nothing is available anymore, but I really like this outfit and the combination of the navy and natural stripes with light wash jeans and cognac loafers and bag. This sweater sold out quickly at J.Crew, and I stalked it until my size appeared again, and then I snagged it. It’s really thick but super soft, great quality, and I love the solid ribbed cuffs and hem against the stripes. (Just pay no nevermind to that phone cord on the floor. I’m a slob.)

sorta similar striped sweater // jeans // similar shoes // can’t find a similar bag

I wore this to get my nails done one day. I only remember that’s where I was going because I wore boyfriend jeans so I could pull them up easily for my pedicure. It was an unusually mild day, for which I was incredibly grateful since I ended up wearing flip-flops for the rest of it. This cashmere v-neck sweater is such a great basic. It’s got a super flattering fit, and it’s super soft.

This gorgeous top was out of stock when I shared this post, but it’s been restocked, and the entire White House Black Market site is currently 40% off. Get your unique discount code on their website at the very top. See more of this look in THIS POST.

Here’s that burgundy v-neck sweater again — this is the one I wore with the chenille hat and scarf above. It’s just an easy throw-on-and-go sweater, and the raised seams and ribbed trim adds interest to an otherwise simple style. My only complaint is that it’s a tad too long for my liking, but take that into consideration if you’re taller than my 5’5″ — it might be perfect for you.

cashmere v-neck (49% off) // jeans (option) // loafers (33% off) // necklace // old earrings

Yes…. another v-neck sweater. Hey, when it works, it works!

This was another church outfit. The sweater is from Banana Republic, but it sold out. I don’t shop a lot there anymore, but they do have some nice classic pieces, and right now their entire store is 50% off. These ponte bootcut pants are amazing and so flattering. They’re sold out in regular sizes, but they do still have some in petite, tall, and plus sizes.

old sweater // ponte bootcut pants // pumps // bag // old necklace

I wore this the day we went into the city for a musical at the Academy of Music. I usually dress up more for the theater, but it was a matinee. I feel like the high heeled boots and the pave layer necklace dress it up enough to work for a daytime show.

sweater (25% off) and also at Nordstrom // crop skinnies (similar for less) // similar boots (similar for less) // Stella & Dot necklace and bucket bag (sold out)

There are still a few sizes left of this fun party sweater, and it’s 40% off. I also really love these earrings for jazzing up a party outfit. This would make a fun NYE party outfit if you have such an occasion. See more of this look in THIS POST.

bow back sweater // DL1961 coated black jeans // similar suede pumps // chandelier earrings

And I think that will do it. Phew! Can you believe there were actually more? And I don’t even get dressed every day. I mean, I get dressed, but I sometimes stay in workout clothes or I’m too schlumpy to warrant an Instagram share.

I’ll wrap up this post with a view of our Christmas tree. I shared this picture on Instagram the night we decorated it, and I never get tired of this view. I sit here in the mornings and do my devotions while it’s still dark out, and it’s so peaceful.

This season of the year is so busy, and there is so much focus on stuff and what to buy and give and get, it’s really important for me to take those few moments every morning to recharge and reset my focus on what really matters.

It truly is my desire to do all things to the glory of God, even if it’s talking about how I put together my outfit or the latest sale find. While my job may focus primarily on shopping and fashion, that certainly isn’t what I’m living for… after all, we can’t take any of it with us.

I’ve really been enjoying the She Reads Truth daily readings during this Advent season. I’m sure I’ve mentioned them before, but that’s usually what I use for my morning devotions. Some series are better than others, but I always love their Advent series. If you’re looking for an easy way to be in the Word every day, I recommend trying it out. They give you several passages to read and then expound on them a bit. It just takes 5 or 10 minutes, but it’s a great way to start the day.

I also like that they break on the weekends so you can catch up if you missed any. They always share Scripture so there’s something to meditate on, but they take a break from the commentary and the more lengthy readings. I find the program very do-able and generally encouraging.

I hope you all have a productive and enjoyable Saturday!

  1. I love your hair straight; very cute! I thoroughly enjoyed this post and most of the outfits. I also think it’s hreat to post older items that may not be available but it gives the reader a reference to use. I found I have many similar pieces in my closet. Your tree is beautiful and enjoyed your thoughts on reflecting what we really live for; to glorify God! Happy Holidays!

  2. “I feel bad sharing this picture because nothing is available anymore, but I really like this outfit and the combination of the navy and natural stripes with light wash jeans and cognac loafers and bag. ”

Please don’t worry.  Most of us who have read your blog for even a short time can shop our closet for items like all of these.  It is the combination of ideas that is the value here, as you say.  You give us the inspiration, the “why didn’t I think of that?” that turns nice but pretty ordinary items into extraordinarily pretty outfits that us ordinary gals can and will wear and enjoy.  And what a treasure trove this whole post is!  Thank you.

  3. Great post. Love your tree. Beautiful. Going back when I have more time and look at post again Have no fear Jolynne, after everyone is gone you’ll have a small gap and then grandkids. Ha.

  4. So many cute looks here!!! Loving all the jewel tones in this post – they look lovely on you.  I agree – I come here to be inspired to put together an outfit that might already be in my closet and yes, I do enjoy sometimes seeing new Loft or Nordstrom items but my budget right now doesn’t allow for me to pick up new items as I am seeing them online. I like be to see items recycled – it lets me know that bloggers are more like me!

  5. I usually use the She Reads Truth for my devotions too <3. And I don't think you look frumpy at all in the camel turtleneck and jacket outfit… you look curvy and pretty :). I love all of these and appreciate the inspiration! Have a great weekend!

  6. You do an awesome job!  We understand that when things sell out it is out of your hands. Reading this post today it’s just kind of funny that three of your sweaters that I thought “ooh, I like that” are old sweaters!!  I’m always looking for more fitted styles and they fit the bill!  Anyway, you are delightful!  Merry Christmas!

  7. Thank you for this post, Jo-Lynne. So many great looks! I’m putting together some last-minute gift ideas for my hubby and son to buy for me! I realized I hadn’t given them any ideas and they always do better with some suggestions! 😉

I just read the daily advent devotional you suggested and I really liked it! Definitely going to follow along with that for the rest of the season – so I really thank you in advance for the time I will take for myself to do that. Do you think the red and black scarf will restock- where is it from?

    1. I agree – the suggestions definitely help. My hubby hasn’t asked for suggestions this year so I’m curious what he has up his sleeve.

The red and black scarf is from Nordstom and I keep checking but I haven’t seen it in a while so I’m afraid it’s gone for good. You may call your store, though, and see if they can find any at other stores. I’ve had good luck with that when things are sold out online.

      1. Maybe he is going to get you a new handbag! I will take your suggestion and call my local Nordstrom- thanks for the tip!

  8. I love your blog! If certain items aren’t available I just substitute with something similar. In the winter I mostly wear boots, jeans and a sweater. Your posts just give me different ideas of how to put a basic outfit together.  Thanks for all the great ideas!

  9. Thank you for taking the time to compile this very helpful post.  Sharing pieces again, means you don’t wear new clothes every day, which most of us can’t do.  I love seeing various ways to wear say, the ivory sweater, because it gives me the knowledge to wear something from my closet more than one way, for a whole new look.
Because I don’t have any children of my own, I’ve gone through different emotions as our only grandchild has grown up, and is now in college.  For the first 17 years of her life, we lived 10 minutes apart, so it was easy for us to see one another.  She loved spending the night with us close to Christmas so we could play games and decorate Christmas cookies.  Carley and her parents are coming down next Thursday, to spend one night, so that we can have Christmas.  When Larry (DaddyDad) texted her to see if she’d rather play board games or decorate cookies, Carley’s response was, BOTH!  She may be an 18 yr old college student, but she wants to experience those fun times again.  So, you’ve got a whole lot of fun and exciting times ahead, even after your 3 are out of the house.  The 7 & 12 yr old little neighbor girls have adopted us as their grandparents.  They have no idea how much good that is doing my heart!  Have a blessed day!

  10. Jo-Lynne’s IG Roundup ✔.  Full cup of coffee ✔.  Great tips on fashion ✔.  I especially like the berry tops and your leather jackets.  Thank you for stepping out there & sharing what really matters the most during this Christmas Season.  I read Jesus Calling each morning, plus Our Daily Bread & listen to Dr. David Jeremiah.  I like that I can listen to his broadcast on my ipad.  I’ll set it up in my kitchen as I’m working.  Have a wonderful weekend ????.

  11. I just discovered that your blog stopped showing up in my Feedly line up a few months ago. I think I have fixed the problem, and look forward to following along with your blog again. I’m not sure what happened. It also didn’t update on the “blog roll” on the side of my blog. Strange!

  12. Do the jeans on sale at amazon have a 9 inch rise? You mentioned that in your post but I couldn’t find where it mentioned it on amazon – thanks

  13. Great summary post.  I love all you do.  Thanks for the great reminder to focus on what really matters and to stay in the word, even if a short time daily.  God must come first in our lives.  Do all as unto the Lord!!!!! Amen.

  14. What a fabulous post! Great inspiration photos. Really enjoy your blog and all of the time you take to post photos and links.

  15. I’ve been meaning to tell you, I’m so glad you’re featuring some Madewell products lately. I like their quality and styles. I do find the sizing a bit unpredictable – but when you model a sweater, I can predict my size from that. That’s very helpful!

  16. Loved this post…you are funny and honest and helpful ALWAYS…but today I got special encouragement from you sharing a little about your beliefs and time with God….there’s a person in my life that is very opposed to Christianity and I sometimes feel kind of intimidated by the anger this individual projects….all that to say it blesses me to know that other women are living life for Jesus. This blog is awesomeness! ☺

    1. Hey Lori, I’m sorry to hear that. That’s hard. I have several friends who aren’t believers and aren’t at all interested, but no one who projects that kind of anger about it. That would be hard. I hope you find the daily readings encouraging. xo

  17. Love all your posts! such inspiration! have you ever considered showing outfits and try ons on your youtube channel? Thanks for a great blog!
    Jennifer

    1. Hey Jennifer, no, I detest video and haven’t really gotten into YouTube. Although I expect it’s another platform that could expand my reach… and I’m sure it would be helpful to talk thru in person. I do it on Insta Story sometimes. Do you know of anyone who does their try-ons on YouTube that I could take a look at?

  18. Love the round up post especially when i can shop my closet for items similar to these. It is the combination of ideas that give us the inspiration to dress stylish ,book marking the roundup post. I went over to the She Reads Truth daily readings and booked marked it so i could read it in the mornings with my cup of coffee. Thanks for sharing
