Casual Stripe T-Shirt Maxi Dress $20

Welcome back to 22 Days of Summer Fashion! Cyndi at Grace + Beauty and I have teamed up to bring you a total of 44 summer outfit ideas during the month of June, and today is Day 4.

I’m always trying to find cute, affordable pieces that I think y’all might like, so I picked up this cute Stripe T-Shirt Maxi Dress at Target* a few weeks ago.

This casual Stripe T-Shirt Maxi Dress by Merona for Target is the perfect casual dress for spring! It looks great under a white jean jacket too!

I honestly didn’t expect it to work for me, but as it turns out, I really like it! It has just enough shaping through the waist area to be flattering, and I’m pleased with the quality of the material for the price. I also like how modest it is. So many maxi dresses are strappy and hard to wear with a regular bra, but this one provides a lot of coverage for those of us who prefer that.

Summer T-Shirt Maxi Dress

The nice thing about a casual summer dress like this is you are one and done. Throw on an accessory or two, slide your feet into your favorite sandals, grab your favorite bag, and walk out the door.

I do wear lightweight shapewear under dresses like this. They smooth everything out without adding bulk, but they are long. For something a bit shorter (for shorter skirts), Spanx makes these shaping shorts. I’m also interested in trying these mid-thigh shorts. I had a pair in another brand that I’ve misplaced so I need to order a few for summer.

A slip is another option. I bought this one a few years ago. It’s $$$ but it is perfect for wearing under dresses that you want to skim the body and not stick to anything, and it’s short enough that you don’t have to worry about it peeking out under the hem of a shorter dress. I keep forgetting I have this, but it’s exactly what I needed yesterday when I wore the Sleeveless T-Shirt Shift Dress — another t-shirt dress I picked up at Target. You can see it on my Instagram. I like it, but it is a little more clingy than this one. I have both in the medium.

I really like the length of this stripe maxi dress because it’s plenty long enough to wear with heels. It’s a bit too long for flats, but I put it through the washer and dryer so I am expecting it to shrink up some. If you’re tall, this dress is a good option for you, and if you’re short, you can always have it hemmed. For size reference, I am 5’5″.

Here’s a view from the back. I like the placement of that wide white stripe at the waist; I feel like it’s slimming. If I really wanted this dress to fit perfectly, I could have it taken in a bit at the waist, but I probably won’t bother. I think it works okay.

The side slit is attractive and makes it easy to walk in. I like that it’s not too high.

Yikes, it looks like I should have taken an iron to this! Funny how many things you don’t notice until you develop pictures.

Striped T-Shirt Maxi Dress with Tory Burch Lexington Wedges

I’m wearing my old faithful Tory Burch Lexington Wedge Sandals and carrying my Serif T Saddlebag. Y’all are probably getting sick of seeing those by now! If you want a similar style of shoe for a fraction of the price, these Tracey Quarter Strap Sandals look great. They’re also from Target.

This dress has already gone to clearance, and sizes are going fast, so if you want one, grab it while there are a few left! It also comes in black and grey stripes. The same style comes in these thinner stripes – a coral and a grey option. There’s a similar style that comes in a variety of solid hues. It is not on sale, but it’s only $24. And for a similarly modest style that is sleeveless, they have this striped maxi dress for $29.

This casual Stripe T-Shirt Maxi Dress by Merona for Target is the perfect casual dress for spring and it's only $29! It looks great under a white jean jacket too!

  1. I love that maxi dress on you and I love the other black one you featured from Target on instagram (think I will be ordering that one, maybe in the pink)…..did you get a small or medium in that black dress ? I never like anything super fitted – especially when I will be wearing it to work……thanks 🙂

  2. Beautiful on you! 🙂

For those others like me that have chosen not to shop there, maybe we can use your inspiration and find similar things. Jane.com and Groupdealz offer some really cute items at similar prices.

Wherever you choose to shop, your outfits always look lovely on you. 🙂 Thanks for sharing.

  3. This is a great find! I just love the colors. Plus, it’s always nice to have a maxi option that doesn’t involve a strapless bra!

  4. I have to agree, Jo-Lynne, that it’s nice to find a summer dress that you don’t have to worry about coverage!
And personally, I think your decision about not taking it in at the waist is a good one—-I know everything can be fitted, but I also think it’s nice to have some items that are more flowy & loose! Or if you wanted it more fitted at the waist, I suppose you could wear a belt? (I don’t know—would that look strange? have you tried it?)

ps…so I must be living under a rock—I have no idea what your comment about not shopping at Target is all about—but then again…I enjoy being an ostrich at times!

    1. I can’t do belts. Too short waisted. 🙂 I think nipping it in at the waist JUST A BIT would help it have more shape, but I probably won’t bother. Too much effort. LOL!

  5. Hi Jo-Lynne, I’ve seen these striped maxis all over the place! Super cute–I like that it has a little cap sleeve. I’m starting to prefer sleeves these days because even though I really have nothing to complain about – my arms aren’t quite as slim as they were before kids…I know, welcome to life. HA!

I recently picked up a tribal print maxi from H&M to style next week. 🙂 It also has the slits on the side, I love that slimming look, just enough leg showing to be comfortable to walk in but not immodest.

    xx-S

  6. Hi Jo-Lynne,

Did you see Bloomingdale’s is having their private sale starting today? Wondered if you had any top picks we should check out?

  7. I will admit, I was kind of excited to see a post with clothing from Target! I find that most of their brands fit me really well and I definitely like the price point! Keep the Target clothing posts coming! 🙂 (I just tried this one on last week!)
