26 Days of Fall Fashion: Fringe Poncho Outfit

Well, it’s here! It’s the first day of September, and 26 Days of Fall Fashion 2017 starts NOW! I’m kicking it off with this casual transition outfit featuring a lightweight fringe poncho from Lucky Brand.

Fall Fashion: Fringe Poncho Outfit

I found this poncho at their outlet store, but it’s also online AND currently on sale for $39. It’s a lightweight, loose-weave knit, so it can be worn over a tank top as seen here for warmer fall days and then over a long-sleeve tee or turtleneck when it gets colder.

Styling a fringe poncho from Lucky Brand with AG legging ankle jeans and taupe booties.

This necklace is also from the Lucky Brand store, but I found it at their mall store. Yes, I’m on a Lucky Brand kick recently! They have so many cute tops right now.

For size reference, this is the XS/S. I don’t like it when ponchos are too voluminous or too long, so this size works well for me.

Here’s a look at the back. It’s a little longer in the back than in the front. I like how the neckline is wide and shows some skin because it’s flattering and also keeps me from getting too hot on these warm fall days.

I debated styling this poncho with my burgundy or spruce green jeans, but this time I opted for blue jeans and taupe suede ankle boots, and I carried a moss green handbag. I love this combination of neutrals.

The jeans, booties, and bag were all Nordstrom Anniversary Sale purchases that have been restocked; so while they’re kind of spendy, I was able to purchase them all for about 40% off.

Actually, this bag JUST went on sale again AND it is 50% off! So it’s lower now than it was during the #NSale. That’s kind of annoying to those of us who purchased it then, but if you wanted it and didn’t take the leap, now’s your chance!

I wore a combination of metals in my accessories. The necklace has yellow gold, rose gold, and silver, and my watch is two-tone so both go with pretty much everything. I love the gold studded handle on this bag.

I didn’t realize these booties had been restocked until I went to write this post, and I’m super excited about that because I plan to wear them a lot this fall! They are sooo comfortable, I don’t even want to take them off when I get home. I learned last year that taupe ankle boots go with just about everything. I highly recommend having this color in your wardrobe.

Style Tip >> Since these booties have a low shaft, I can wear my ankle-length skinnies with them without having to roll or cuff the hem. I just let them fall where they may. Showing a little bit of ankle is fine; in fact, that’s supposed to be slimming since it’s the narrowest part of the leg.

I can’t wait to start wearing this outfit! It’s totally the sort of thing I’ll wear to meet a friend for coffee or volunteer at my daughter’s school. It’s casual and comfortable with just a little bit of sass.

Before you go, you may have noticed that I’m not the only one wearing new clothes today. The blog got a pretty major makeover yesterday, and I’m super excited about it. I want to give a shout-out to Lindsay at Purr Design for working her magic. As much as I loved my last logo, I was ready for something new and fresh, and I love what Lindsay came up with.

She also updated my site design to compliment the new look and cleaned up some stuff on the backend, which is nice. I think we’ve got all the kinks ironed out, but if you notice something that looks off, let me know. I hope you find it easy to navigate.

In addition to being the first day of September and our new style series, it’s also Friday so that means linkup day!! If you have a fashion blog, I’d love for you to join us. If you’re here for your weekly dose of style inspiration, you’ll find plenty of that here. Enjoy your long weekend!

  1. Darling outfit!! I love the fringe and those booties are swoon worthy!! Happy Long weekend!!

  2. Super cute outfit! Would love to see the poncho styled with burgundy and spruce if you ever do a post with multiple ways to style an item 🙂 Also the blog layout looks great!! Very excited to see more of the fall styles and now I am off to check out Cyndi’s!

  3. Hip & Cute!  Love it!  The website looks fantastic!

Happy September everyone.  My prayers continue for the victims of Harvey.

  4. Love the website! It looks fabulous. Easy to navigate. The poncho looks great on you. I’m so short that I feel a poncho would drown me or make me look like a little kid!

  5. Great new blog update!  I have also been on a LuckyBrand kick, their clothes have really been good the past few seasons.  Also I am in the 2nd course of Adore Your Wardrobe on your recommendation, I am really enjoying it and learning lots!  Thank you.

  6. I love the new blog!!! And cute profile pic on the side too! Also…am loving the outfit. I’m with you…I size way down in ponchos. I love when I can buy an extra small of something, lol.

  7. This is an adorable outfit! I work with youth at our church so I try to dress in an appropriate yet hip way. Unfortunately, Lucky is out of stock on the size medium in the poncho. I wear a size 10 so I think the large would be too big.

  8. Love the new blog design!
I love the poncho without an extra layer for this time of year…I get stuck in a rut and end up only wearing poncho’s in late fall when I can put a long sleeve shirt or light turtleneck under it.
Love the punch of color from the green purse. It really makes the accessory a nice focal point.

  9. I love this poncho, and your blog design is wonderful . I need a new one so bad…and I need to switch to wordpress from blogger….ugg big undertaking! Have a great weekend!

  10. Love the new look of your blog, and I love the outfit.  I want to find some taupe low shaft booties, with arch support.  Time to do some online shopping.

Have a safe and enjoyable Labor Day weekend!

  11. Wow!!! Jo-Lynne.  Great start. LOVE the outfit on you.  I only had 1 poncho I got on sale last season but too late to really wear, so excited for this Fall.  I just bought another one too. But, this one is so cute but afraid it would be too long for me at 5’3″.  Love the whole look with the booties too.  Going to check them out and see the heel height.  These days I like a lower heel. 🙂  I agree.  I wear my taupe booties the most.  Great color with everything.  Excited for days and days of Fall fashion to come.  Its going to be sooo HOT here on the West Coast….Oregon.  Labor Day is predicted 100.  We have lots of fires in Oregon too, so many people loosing their homes to fire, as Texas people by flood.  So sad.

  12. This is a great one, Jo-Lynne! That poncho seems like a really practical type of piece to have on hand, and I love the way you styled it. I’m still waiting on my VC booties to come in from backorder. They are really similar to these.

Love the new design too. Super easy navigation- on mobile anyway 🙂

    1. Oh, good! Mobile is important b/c I think 40% of my readers are viewing on mobile. I tend to put 80% of my thought and energy into my desktop design but I realize I should also be thinking about the mobile version.

  13. I wanted to thank you for your post on bras yesterday! You inspired me to bite the bullet and get rid of some shabby ones, get refitted, and buy some new ones, all of which I did last night. Thanks for the little kick in the pants! 🙂
Also, your new blog design looks fabulous! Looking forward to your fall series!

  14. Cute outfit! I love ponchos – they’re such a stylish to stay comfortable… this is why I love my fall wardrobe so much. And they’re so easy to accessorize with a long necklace and cute booties.

  15. Great start to “26 Days of Fall Fashion!” I am trying to decide on a pair of booties for fall. I love the BP perforated booties, but can they transition into winter, or does the perforation make them a warmer weather bootie??? Thoughts???

  16. Jo Lynne, I too am a huge fan of Lucky Brand, especially the jewelry. I have several pieces that I wear a lot of the time and I keep buying more.  The new logo is great but I think you need to check the text and links in your email. The first line says that the link up is on vacation until January and the link took me to a post from May.

    1. Yikes!!! I assume this is for the Fashion Friday email? I did forget to change the link… but not sure why the message was old. I updated that. So sorry. That’s what I get for rushing. :/ Thanks for the heads-up.

  17. Love, love love this outfit!! I want to order the poncho but I am fair and wondering if it will make me look washed out? Also, love the purse, booties and jeans…guess I like the whole outfit!

  18. Does the necklace tarnish?  I get so disappointed in some jewelry that isn’t expensive doing that.  I love the necklace in the different metal tones. I have all 3 watches in those colors, so would go with a lot.

  19. Your whole outfit is so cute!! Unfortunately we’re having a heat wave here in California….its been in the triple digits…..104 today….ugh! Weather forecast is hot, hot, hot…..for awhile.

    1. 104!?! GOODNESS! I am all cozied up in a long sleeve tee and a big fuzzy cardigan. It is freezing here today. I have to say, as nice as it is to model fall clothes in fall weather, this is way too soon to turn cold again. I’m not amused. Trying not to complain about anything considering what people are dealing with in Houston with the flooding and Oregon with the forest fires, but I fear a long, cold winter here on the east coast.

  20. I’m finally catching up on posts lol…your new design looks great!

I love this outfit and ordered the poncho awhile ago. Sadly I had to return it as I didn’t realize Lucky Brand ran big for tops and now the smaller sizes are gone. I was able to exchange other tops in store, so now I know my sizing better.
