Fashion Over 40: Daily Mom Style 05.20.15

Welcome back to my weekly post where I share what I wore this week and link up with other fashion bloggers around the web! I’m just a typical suburban mom trying to stay fabulous after 40 and sharing what I learn along the way. I hope you find some “mom style” inspiration here.

I’ve posted the details on a few of these outfits already, but I’ll still do my weekly recap since I know so many of you like that. Last week I wore this casual white and denim outfit to volunteer at my girls’ school. I kept the palette fairly neutral with gold and brown accessories, and I added an orange bracelet for a little burst of color. See more pictures and get the outfit details.

I was feeling the neutrals again on Friday, and I paired my olive cargo skinnies with a black embellished tee. Once again, I used orange to brighten up the outfit. Clearly, orange is my signature color… (Channeling my inner Shelby there for a minute. Kudos to the first one to name that movie.) See more pictures and get the outfit details here.

This is the outfit I wore on Saturday for our visit to the Shenandoah Valley. We spent the day in Winchester, Virginia, visiting some of the historical sites so I wanted to be comfortable.

Casual Summer Outfit for Moms

The lavender top was an Old Navy find a few years ago. I love their casual summer tops. I pick up a few every summer. They’re affordable, they’re comfortable, and they wash and wear well. In fact, I’m about ready to place my order for this year.

Then I just wore my AG Stilt jeans cuffed at the ankles with my Ecco sneakers for comfort. The silver carryall is perfect for traveling because it is lightweight and holds a lot.

I changed for dinner into these black shorts and white top. Gotta love the picturesque parking lot. Ha!

Because I wanted to pack light, I wore the same white top again on Sunday, this time with my cuffed jeans. I also wore the same jewelry both days in a row. Can I just say how proud of myself I am? I don’t think I’ve ever packed quite that lightly before. In fact, I was wishing I had a dressier top for dinner, but that outfit worked just fine.

I don’t have an official picture of Sunday’s outfit, although I do have this one of me with my son when we were touring the garden at the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley. Yes, I am officially looking UP to my son now. It’s surreal.

D & Mom

Okay, I’ve gotta be honest with you guys. I know the rolling of the pants is of the moment and all, but looking through these pictures, I just can’t get excited about it. I don’t feel like they flatter me at all. Maybe it’s the sneakers, but they seem to cut off my legs at an awkward place — which is exactly my beef with cropped pants to begin with. Whatddya say? Maybe I need a thinner cuff or something.

I didn’t get a good shot of my outfits the last few days, and they’re nothing to write home about anyway. How many variations on jeans and t-shirts can there be?? It’s been a lazy week with no need to get gussied up, which sometimes is just what the doctor ordered.

  1. It is the sneakers!!! The cuffed pants look adorable with your sandals. Cuffing with sneakers, even Chucks, DOES NOT work for me, it’s either sandals or wedges! Happy Hump Day 🙂

  2. With the sneakers, I think the pants need to be a bit longer and a thinner cuff. It will totally work 🙂

  3. I love your AG Stilt Cigarette Leg Jeans in 10 Years Rio! The color is really fabulous. Bloomingdales has these on sale thru today so I signed up for emails and received a 10% off coupon. With the sale and the 10% off coupon, it made these lovelies much more affordable. I agree, I like the rolled cuff better with sandals but you can totally pull them off with sneakers too.
