Fashion Over 40: Daily Mom Style 07.07.15

Welcome back to my weekly post where I share what I wore this week and link up with other fashion bloggers around the web! I’m just a typical suburban mom trying to stay fabulous after 40 and sharing what I learn along the way. I hope you find some style inspiration here.

This is another new top from Kohl’s. I knew when I laid eyes on it that it would be a perfect everyday t-shirt. The relaxed style is comfortable, yet it still has some shape through the waist that keeps it flattering.

The details on the back make the shirt, though. I love it when designers go the extra step to add an interesting feature to the back of a t-shirt.

It hasn’t been too terribly hot here lately so I dusted off my dark skinny jeans. I like the slightly distressed wash on the darker jeans with this top. These old Reef flip-flops were laying around so I slipped them on for pictures. They’re actually my daughter’s. I bought them for myself last summer and she adopted them, but I still wear them around the house from time to time.

I forgot where I went the day I wore this outfit. I think maybe it was Friday, and I went shopping with my kids.

Fashion Over 40: Shorts and a T-Shirt

The coral tee is from Ann Taylor. I’m really loving the fit of this top. I also ordered it in white. It’s nice that it’s thicker than most t-shirts out there these days. I paired it with my tailored black City Shorts (also from Ann Taylor), and I wore my black Vionic sandals. The gold FitBit bracelet was a birthday gift from my mom. I LOVE IT. Definitely dresses up the fitness tracker and makes it part of the outfit.

I love the contrast of this spring green with the coral top. My bag is old and no longer available. I’ve looked high and low, and this Coach Prairie Leather Satchel is the closest I’ve found. Sorry it’s not more affordable.

This was a lazy day at home, and I decided to be comfy in this hoodie and sweatpants that were sent to me from Fabletics. I went for a brisk walk in the morning, and then I just kept it on until time to change for the pool.

Fabletics Activewear

I love the hoodie on the back of this top.

I wore this next outfit for my birthday date night. On Monday, I posted the outfit photos that we took in Kennett Square, where we went for dinner. These are the ones we took at the house before we left. We had no idea we’d have such a great photo opp in Kennett. We had our camera with us so we could capture our experience Longwood Gardens. Note to self: Keep camera in car at all times.

I love this clutch, but when I tried to cram in everything I was going to want while we were out, I realized I needed a bigger bag so I switched to my Lexi Bucket. Still, it makes for a nice picture, yes?? By the way, I’ve had a lot of questions about my nail polish on Instagram. It’s two CND Shellac colors that we layered for the perfect neutral pink manicure — Cake Pop and Romantique. It’s my new fave.

I accessorized with my gold chandelier earrings, and then I just wore my 3-disk necklace because I wanted something to fill the neckline without competing with the earrings or the embellishment on the top.

And I wore a stack of textured bangles. I picked these up super cheap at Francesca’s a few years ago.

I love these wedges. I haven’t worn them all summer because they’re not very practical, but I thought they were perfect with this outfit so I wore them to dinner and then changed into Orthaheels for Longwood. They are no longer available, but these are similar and every bit as cute. In fact, I’m tempted to order them in black.

Now back to real life…. This was just another casual summer day at home.

For the 4th of July, I started out the day in this outfit.

Fashion for Women Over 40: 4th of July Outfit

It was a rainy day so the espadrilles I’d bought for the occasion didn’t really work. Instead I wore these new sandals I picked up at Kohl’s the day before. I noticed a similar style by Steve Madden at Nordstrom a few months ago and thought they were cute. When I saw the Candie’s version at Kohl’s, I immediately tried them on. They’re more practical than they appear at first glance. The platform sole is soft and squishy, and there isn’t much of an incline so they’re not like wearing heels, but they give me some added height, which is nice. Plus the thick straps around the ankle keep my foot in place so they’re actually pretty sensible for someone with finicky feet. Plus, CUTE!

I subbed a red tank for the white tee I showed in my What to Wear for the 4th of July post since I needed to find another way to incorporate red into the outfit, and I carried my Lexi Bucket in Cuoio which is now BACK IN STOCK and still on sale. At $250, it’s definitely an investment, but it’s not a bad price for the quality. It’s the PERFECT size too — not too big, not too small. The tassel is a fun, trendy touch.

Later in the day, I actually changed into jeans and carried my navy Ikat tote to go to lunch at an outdoor cafe, and then that evening, I swapped the jeans for jean shorts and the sandals for flip-flops to go to our pool club for the BBQ. It drizzled all day, which was a bit of a drag, but we made the best of it.

Sunday brought the sunshine. I was still feeling festive, so I chose to go with red, white and blue again.

I wore this navy and white striped maxi dress (from LOFT a few years ago) and carried my red bag.

I wore my gold sandals again, and I added my red Sardinia bracelet and earrings.

That afternoon, to drop my son at camp and then to hang out with friends in the evening, I changed into navy shorts and my navy and white twist trim tank. Yes, you may remember I wore this top with black shorts last week before I realized it was navy. I ordered the same shorts in navy since they’re on sale, and I already know they fit well.

I switched into white flat sandals, and I changed out my accessories too. I could have stuck with the red, I suppose, but I grabbed this orange leather wrap bracelet and some other gold jewelry. I also went back to carrying my Lexi bucket bag.

  1. Love the graphic tee and I think my next favorite is the black shorts with the AT t-shirt. And that bag! I still covet that bag!

  2. Ok your outfits are great but I was sold at the gold Fitbit bracelet! I had no idea they even made such a thing and now I must investigate and invest!

  3. Hi Jo-Lynne! OK,if you were going to wear a jacket with the first outfit, the dark skinnies and graphic T, what would it be? I love that outfit and heed to know how to “jacket” it! Not more denim, right?
    Thanks!
Sara (fashion clueless, but making progress)

    1. Great question! Honesty, I would struggle with that a bit. I would not do more denim personally. I know it’s a trend at the moment, but ew. I would go with black – black leather jacket or even a black blazer.
