Happy Mother’s Day! #CoffeeTalk

tulips mothers day

Well, we made it through The Week Of Rain, and it looks like the sun is going to shine for Mother’s Day — at least in these here parts. Sorry, that’s my southwestern Virginia coming out. Haha!

It’s been a pretty depressing week with a sick child at home and all the rain, and besides that, it’s just cold — way too cold for this time of year. I guess we’re paying for that warm fall we had. I wish the seasons would get back on track. It’s messing with my psyche.

I was so distracted with my daughter being sick (I ended up taking her to Urgent Care on Friday morning) that I totally forgot about the Fashion Friday linkup! In fact, I didn’t even REALIZE I forgot about it until someone mentioned it on Instagram yesterday.

I’ve been hosting that linkup for at least 5 years, and I don’t think I’ve ever forgotten one. Anyway, Fashion Friday is alive and well, and it will be back this week in all its glory.

Speaking of the sick child, she has the flu. I suspected that because it’s going around her school. She’s hanging in there, and thankfully no one else has come down with it. I’m hoping the rest of us can escape it because it doesn’t look like any fun, plus my husband and I have plans to attend a FAM trip on Maryland’s Eastern Shore this weekend, and I really want to go! While it is technically a business trip, it will be nice to spend some quality time with my hubby, and I’ve been looking forward to shooting some outfits while we’re there.

We did manage to bang out some outfit photos yesterday despite the gloomy morning, and I’m excited to share them with you. We hope to shoot a few more later today. Summer still seems far away, but I expect it will be like Mother Nature flips a light switch and it will go from being cool and dreary to hot and muggy practically overnight. That’s usually how it goes, at least around here.

Cyndi and I are already talking about our summer fashion series. I think we’re going to start on June 1st. I’m excited to start wearing shorts and tank tops. YAY!

I hope you have some fun plans for today. Our Mother’s Day will be low-key. My husband is grilling steaks when he gets home from church, and I’m hoping the weather will be conducive to eating on the deck.

And speaking of Mother’s Day, here’s a Mother’s Day present for you. Tory Burch just put a bunch of her handbags on sale, including my Serif T Saddlebag pictured above. It’s marked down to $315. I have no idea how long the markdowns will last, but I’m thinking she was pretty clever starting this sale the day before Mother’s Day.

If Tory Burch isn’t in the budget, at least go buy yourself some pretty flowers. I bought those tulips at the grocery store on Thursday, and they’ve been gracing my kitchen counter for several days. It’s amazing how fresh flowers brighten up a space, especially when it’s gloomy outside.

I know Mother’s Day can be a hard day for some, but no matter how you end up celebrating, I hope you have a lovely day with friends and loved ones.

  1. Happy Mother’s Day to you as well. I hope your daughter feels better soon. I’m glad you’re finally seeing the sun. How depressing. We’re you going in Md? Just wondering as I’m from St. Michaels (and will be there next month for my annual trip back home!).

        1. It says Cambridge on the website. I assume the same? We have actually stayed there a few times, and funny thing, we made reservations to take the family in June, and about a week later, I got this FAM trip invite. So we’re making it a romantic getaway. 🙂

          1. Sorry, auto correct is not my friend today. Yes,I meant Cambridge! I love that hotel. Such a great location (I’m also biased!) and so relaxing.

          1. My favorites are The Crab Claw and 208 Talbot, both in St. Michaels (of course). You can’t go wrong with either of them.

  2. Happy Mothers Day, Jo-Lynne. Hope your day is great and little one makes a quick recovery. I too am plagued with a sick husband. He has a herniated disc in his back- been bedridden for two weeks. Waiting on the medical community to get it together! I love you style and can’t wait for your summer pairings!????????????????????????????????????

  3. Happy Mother’s Day! That Tory Burch bag is just gorgeous, I’ve been debating between white and black for days and finally ordered the black yesterday (Nordstrom also has it on sale, plus triple points!), but I’m still really wanting the white….decisions, decisions! ???? Hope your daughter gets well soon and that the rest of you stay healthy!

  4. Happy Mother’s Day! Hoping your girl is feeling better and you all can enjoy your day together. 🙂

  5. Happy Mother’s Day to us all! I’m so sorry to hear that your daughter has the flu! Yikes! I almost hate to say this because I don’t want to give unsolicited advice, but Essential Oils are so helpful for the flu. I use the combination called Thieves and it’s amazing on viruses and bacteria.

Love, love, LOVE the pink tulips!!!
Grilled steaks sound so good to me.
And good for you for counting your blessings!

    1. Hey Michelle, I ran out of Thieves. I was kicking myself. I actually let my Young Living membership lapse (I was a distributor) and I need to reactivate it and stock up. I just ran out of Lavender too, and I love to put that on burns. I tend to get burned regularly when I’m cooking, lol, and it’s so soothing. And I want more Deep Relief . . . I really need to call and get my account back up and running, lol!!

      1. I burn myself cooking a lot, too! And I always run for the lavender! 🙂 I have so many YL oils, I wish we lived closer and I’d run you over a bottle!

  6. Happy Mother’s Day! I look forward to your fashion posts every week. You have really helped me put myself together this fall and spring. I feel so much more confident. Thank you for all you do!

  7. Jo Lynne,
Where in Southwest VA did you live? I was born and raised in Richmond and lived there until 2010 when we started moving a bit. I’ve spent a TON of time in the southwestern part of the state though since that’s where my parents are from. (Richlands & Cedar Bluff area). Happy Mother’s Day and hope your daughter feels better quickly. Don’t know if your familiar with Edens Garden Essential Oils (saw in the other comments you were talking oils) but I’ve ordered from them. I did quite a bit of reading on various brands (including Young Living) before ordering and they are supposed to be just as good from all the info I found and are more reasonably priced. Just a thought 😉
