Trunk Club Unboxing + Mother’s Day Weekend Sales

Good morning, friends! I hope everyone here on the east coast is managing to stay dry today. It’s definitely coming down out there. I hope it lets up before tonight because I have a dinner date.

The kids have their own plans, and it’s been a while since Paul and I’ve gone out, plus I’m going to be gone for a few days next week so we thought we’d take advantage of the opportunity to get out and catch up over some good food and wine.

Trunk Club Unboxing

Today I want to share my latest Trunk Club unboxing with you. For those who are uninitiated, Trunk Club is Nordstrom’s virtual styling service.

(I’m not working with them; I just enjoy seeing what they pick out for me, and sometimes they find great pieces that I didn’t notice on my own. I do share my referral link, and if you try it, I get a credit to spend on a future Trunk Club purchase. If you sign up, you will also receive a referral link to share with your friends.)

So let’s get started!

Alice + Olivia Gia Cold Shoulder Blouse $225 // This top is pretty, and it fits well, but it is see-through and I don’t care for how the cami shows in the neckline. And then there’s the issue of the price… it’s going back.

Sam Edelman Hazel Indigo Fabric Pumps $128 // I love these but they’re a half size too big. And while I love them, I’m not sure I’d wear them enough to justify the price tag. Still, super fun if they’re your thing! (And I swear by these pumps… they are very comfortable for pumps.)

(The jeans are mine.)

Willow & Clay Floral Print Blouse $79 // I love this, and I kept it. I might wear it out to dinner tonight! It’s different for me, but I think it’s pretty and flattering. I’m going to try pairing it with white jeans or maybe my black jeans.

(Jeans and shoes are mine.)

Paige Cecile Top $188 // This top looks a lot better on the model on the website than it does on me. It’s kind of boxy. I was disappointed, because when I previewed my trunk, I had high hopes for this one. On the other hand, I was kind of relieved because it’s more than I like to spend on my tops.

(Jeans and shoes are mine.)

Mural Curve Open Front Shawl Collar Blazer $74 // I like this a lot, but I have several blazers now, and I just don’t wear them that much, so I sent it back. It has a nice fit, and it comes in 5 colors, so if you wear blazers to work, definitely take a look at this one.

(The blouse I’m wearing is discontinued. The jeans and shoes are still available.)

Eliza J Linen Blend Sheath Dress $128 // I was tempted by this one, but in the end, I didn’t love the collar. I think I might order this one, though.

(Shoes are mine.)

Trouve Tie Front Knit Top $52 // I love this. It’s soft and comfy and just a little bit different with that tie waist. I think it’s going to be fun with jeans and shorts for summer.

Paige Hoxton High Waist Ankle Peg Skinny Jeans $160 // These were all kinds of wrong, lol. They are too small, for one thing. My stylist sent the 28 because that’s what I wear in most other brands, but I always have to size up in Paige. And for an “ankle length” pant, they are too long on me, and the split hem would make them hard to alter. That said, if you’re a tall girl, these might be perfect for you! I do like the wash and the distressing and the side slits at the hem. Just remember to size up.

Diane von Furstenberg Sleeveless Poplin Top $268 // This top was too small in the size 6, and I was kind of relieved because it isn’t in my budget at the moment. The pictures weren’t appropriate for public consumption, thus the stock photo. Haha! Needless to say, that went back.

So I hope that was fun. I kept two tops, and I consider that a successful trunk. I don’t really want to commit to a lot more than that in one order, but I enjoy trying things on and discovering new styles even if they don’t work out.

Oh, and I did go ahead and order the similar Eliza J dress. I feel like I’m way overdue for a dress post, and that is one I think I will get some wear out of this summer. It will be nice for church and for any other event that requires a more casual dress that might crop up.

If you want to try Trunk Club, you can specify your budget limitations, so don’t let some of these prices hold you back. They still like to throw one or two splurge-worthy items in there to tempt you, but I appreciate the opportunity to experience brands I might not normally try. It’s a good way to discover new brands and new items you may not spot online or in the store, and it’s a great service for busy women who don’t have time to shop, and for those who just don’t like to shop.

  1. I always love these posts for some reason. In fact, when you posted on fb that you had an unboxing up, I hurried over to check it out, lol. Definitely agree with your picks and I LOVE that tie front tank. It went straight to my wishlist to wait for a sale. 😉

  2. So fun! I have a trunk at my door I need to open (came last night) 🙂 I really like the two tops you chose, and I like those hard to justify the price but oh so cute pumps with all the embroidery! (I’m a sucker for stuff like that!)

  3. I love the two tops that you kept , the black floral top looks awesome on you , I hope you and Paul have a great date night and Happy Mothers Day!!!!! , Thanks for sharing your trunk club
    Have a great day !!!!
    Diana

  4. Only thing I might have done differently is get the pumps in the smaller size. They’re cute and I think you’d end up using them more than you’d guess. I think sending the dress back was smart, for whatever reason I think it makes you look bigger than you are. And the detailing at the neck makes it look lower cut than it actually is. I’m glad you didn’t keep it, LOL. The one you ordered instead looks like a better choice.

  5. I think you picked the right things to keep…although I might have been tempted by the shoes. I am intrigued by the thought of wearing patterned shoes lately lol.

The dress you ordered is so pretty, looking forward to seeing it in a post!

  6. Thanks so much for the information! I’m new to your blog but love and appreciate the way you put outfits together. I already copied one of your outfits and hubby loved it! ???? Have a great Mother’s Day!

  7. I like the tie front top. What size are you wearing? Floral too looks really nice in you. Always liked floral with a black background. Not sure about the white ruffle top. Reminds me a little of a Seinfeld episode. Haha! Have a nice weekend!

  8. Those pump are to die for! I can’t wear heels like that for very long anymore., but wow! Love the Willow & Clay floral top too! (Much better than the all black Paige Cecile top)

  9. I love love that floral top! It’s very pretty and flattering and looks great on you. Have a great dinner date! (We had our date at lunch just a little bit ago.) I really enjoy your posts!

  10. So interesting to see people’s differing views, huh? I LOVE the black floral blouse on you; super cute and classy in a feminine way…. going to check that one for myself. The tie waist tank is a cute style and would be perfect with shorts or white skinny ankle jeans this summer, but that neckline is hard to wear as it’s so high up (looks kinda boyish on me). Do you have any tips on accessorizing a crewcut neckline like that?
That white blouse has gone overboard with the ruffles! (Glad you sent that back 😉 )

    1. I agree – a crew neckline is not the most flattering. I plan to wear a long pendant necklace with it to draw the eye down and in towards the waist. It helps create a virtual hourglass shape, and in a way, a V-neckline. It still isn’t ideal, but I like the shirt enough to work with it. 🙂

  11. Happy Mother’s Day to You!! And enjoy your dinner tonight. What a great idea to go a day earlier then just hang out tomorrow. Hoping the monsoon will be over by then!

  12. Thanks for sharing. I was not crazy about any of the things they sent you…I did like the tie top you kept though. I’m sorry if you’ve already worn it but I think the black floral top looks like a lingerie top. I’ve seen better on you.

  13. I love seeing what all you get in your trunk club. I think you made great choices on what to keep and the dress to order. Like many of the other ladies, I think you would get a lot of wear out of the shoes, especially in your line of work! They won’t quite work for this country living girl with a very sandy yard.

    Happy Mothers Day!

  14. I love that black blazer and so glad you kept the flowered top as it looks awesome on you and I love the print and style. what size are you wearing in the blazer?

  15. I love the tie front shirt and the black floral top as well. White jeans would look great with that black top! Excellent choices. By the way, I LOVE your instastories! They are so fun! But I especially love how down to earth you are and your sweet demeanor. Thank you for sharing with us. Happy Mother’s Day!

  16. I love the two tops that you kept, but I would definitely buy the pumps in smaller size, I think you would wear it all the time 😉

  17. I love the floral top! I think it looked great on you! I am big on white jeans.
Cream slim pants would be cute, and red jeans would be fun as well..I like it as well just with regular denim too.

Fun post!! Thanks for sharing! You always look so beautiful!

  18. I was hoping you would keep the floral top as I was looking at the pictures!! And I agree that it does look different than the tops you normally wear which makes it that much more fun! And it was so feminine looking. I enjoyed “shopping” with you. I was hoping you would keep the dress–I thought it was cute on you and fun looking with the stripes, etc. But if you didn’t love the collar then I’m glad you didn’t keep it. No reason to have things in your closet you don’t love. Thanks for sharing your shopping with us!
