Running Playlist

I am completely and utterly blown away at the response to my I Am A Runner post. Even as I wrote it, I could feel the adrenalin pumping, but I thought I was probably a little bit crazy. Then the comments started to pour in, and I was completely overwhelmed by how my post resonated with so many.  And I thought, maybe I’m not so crazy to be excited about this after all.

I went out running in my new shoes on Saturday, and they felt WONDERFUL. I can’t believe I was running in those worn out sneakers I picked up years ago at a discount shoe store.  I can’t wait to go out again, probably tomorrow.  Oh!  Oh!  I also downloaded a Pedometer app to my Palm Pre so now I can see exactly how far I’m going and how long I’m running and all that jazz.  How cool is THAT!?

Many of you have requested my playlist, so here goes. Now mind you, some of these lyrics are a bit um, questionable, but these are the tunes that pump me up and carry me through when I want. to. quit. so. bad. I’m also not going to bother with links and all that jazz. I have design work beating down my door, which is a GREAT thing, but I need to give that my full attention this afternoon. So without further ado…

An American Girl – Tom Petty
Closer to Fine – Indigo Girls
Darlington County – Bruce
Dude (Looks Like a Lady) – Aerosmith
Glory Days – Bruce
Goodbye To You – Scandal
Harder to Breathe – Maroon 5
I Do Not Hook Up – Kelly Clarkson
I Wanna Be Sedated – Ramones
Larger Than Life – Backstreet Boys  *embarrassing*
My Life Would Suck Without You – Kelly Clarkson
Pretty Vegas – INXS
Ride – Martina McBride
Rock and Roll Band – Boston
Satellite – The Hooters
Two More Bottles of Wine – Martina

I’d love to add to it, so tell me your favorite songs to exercise by.

  1. I love to run to several of Pink’s songs! They are upbeat and keep my running so I can *maybe* get abs like hers! LOL

    1. Thanks! I don’t know why I don’t have any of her songs. I like so many of them. I just added 4 to my running playlist as well as my regular favorites.

  2. ha ha! those two Kelly Clarkson songs are on my current running playlist, too (along with some Black Eyed Peas and songs from Glee)! Dancing Queen, whether it is the Abba, Mama Mia, or Sixpence None the Richer version, is one of my favorite songs to run to.

  3. Did you steal my playlist?!? More than half of those are on my work out list (sidenote: I, also, have taken up running. Well. Jogging. Your story from last week cracked me up – I was completely not a work out girl until about 7 years ago. Slowly built up my jogging stamina. Got sidetracked when I was preggers, but got back on track. I can’t resume until it’s a bit warmer, since I have to take my little one with me – but my goal this year is to try a formal race).

    I also like:
Accidentally In Love – Counting Crows
    Hey Ya – Outkast
Living on a Prayer – Bon Jovi
Interstate Love Song – STP/Stone Temple Pilots
How Can I Keep From Singing – Chris Tomlin
Be My Yoko Ono – BNL/Barenaked Ladies
    Booty Call – G. Love
ANYTHING by Ben Folds (I recommend Zak and Sara or Rockin’ The Suburbs – censored version)

    Happy running!

  4. Back when I was running constantly – you know, before I went and got myself knocked up – I had alot of Black Eyed Peas (as well as Fergie’s solo songs), Cascada, Rhianna, Beyonce and some upbeat country songs on my play list. I listened to it so much that when I hear one of those songs on the radio, I think that the next song on my playlist should be the next one played on the radio…

  5. So glad you shared your running playlist with us!
Top on mine is Black Eyed Peas – A good night
Pink – Please don’t leave me
Katy Perry – I kissed a girl (back to the questionable lyrics)
Melissa Etheridge – I run for life (inspirational)

Keep on running girl!! Training for a 1/2 marathon in June but this snow is keeping me inside on my treadmill (which I strongly dislike!)

  6. I downloaded the Biggest Loser soundtrack which is full of remixed songs with a GREAT beat! It’s just what I need! There are several to choose from.

  7. I’ve been thinking of posting my playlist, as well!

My favorite, favorite new running song?

‘Till I Collapse’ by Eminem. I time it so it plays at my halfway point, and I can’t possibly stop running when I’m listening to it. Best. running. song. ever.

    Promise 🙂

  8. Here are some from my walk/”run just a wee bit” play list from my iphone. Many I picked from my daughters taste in music – but they keep me moving!

    Something Kinda Ooooh Girls Aloud
    Up The Saturdays
    Year 3000 Busted

Let me know if you add any! (and please don’t judge me too harshly!!!)

  9. Never commented before but I am an avid runner and as lame as it sounds “Eye of the Tyger” has to be my favorite running song!

  10. “Let’s Get It Started” by Black-Eyed Peas
    “Survivor” Destiny’s Child
    “Single Ladies” Beyonce
“Hey Ya” Outkast–makes me laugh while running
    “Wind It Up” Gwen Stefani

That’s what I can think of off the top of my head. I always choose the clean version of a song, because I have no tolerance for swearing.

  11. Gin Blossoms – Hey Jealousy
Violent Femmes – I like American Music
    and
    Cowboy Mouth’s – Jenny Says
It’s my, no one’s looking, sing along like an idiot song, too.
Also, a ton of Tom Petty, but you already had something by him.

  12. I’ve made a playlist with quite a few Wynona Judd songs, a few Mindy McCready songs, Pink, Avril Lavigne, Party in the U.S.A by Miley Cyrus. I also have a few ‘N Sync songs as well as the majority of the soundtrack to Lizzie McGuire the movie (they’re just so peppy). =)

  13. Haha, I love your playlist. Especially the embarrassing one. 🙂 I listen to a ton of disney soundtracks, since I don’t have children I think I miss them sometimes.

  14. I love ‘Pork and Beans’ by Weezer and ‘Read My Mind’ by The Killers. My playlist isn’t kid friendly either. It’s my guilty pleasure that I get to listen to non-kid music while I excercise.

  15. Here are some of mine:

    One – U2 & Mary J. Blige version
    Numb – Linkin Park
Mary Jane’s Last Dance – Tom Petty
    Home – Marc Broussard
Gives You Hell – All American Rejects
    Drops of Jupiter – Train
Tons of songs by Kings of Leon
You Found Me – The Fray
    PYT – Michael Jackson
Man In The Mirror – Michael Jackson
Long Black Veil – Dave Matthews Band
    Shattered – O.A.R

Another playlist that is not really kid friendly, but they aren’t listening while the elliptical kicks my butt.

    You go girl!!

  16. I ran distance track and cross country in high school, but because of a hip injury I can’t run/have a good excuse not to anymore! But, I do have an energy playlist on my ipod for when i’m cleaning house or working at school. it has 40 songs on it…so i’ll only tell you a few…

shut up and let me go- the ting tings
    shackles- mary mary
    stronger- kanye west
    switch- will smith
u can’t touch this and too legit to quit- mc hammer
lots of stuff by nelly, christina aguilera, and the black eyed peas
spice up your life- spice girls
motownphilly- boyz II men ( i was in middle school and high school through most of the 90’s in case you can’t tell!)

tobymac is also pretty good for some energy. i don’t normally listen to this much pop and hip-hop all the time, but it’s good to get you moving!

  17. The weather here has been anything but desirable these last several days… I have not gotten out to run, but I have worked out indoors every day since last Thursday. My poor, unused-for-so-long muscles are screaming — but I’m still going! And — best news of all — I haven’t shed a single scared tear, nor have I done anything even slightly resembling my old abusive behavior. Praise God.

  18. “Bad” by Michael Jackson is on my power walk playlist and does wonders. Also, “Living on a Prayer” by Bon Jovi and “One Hot Momma” by Trace Adkins.

  19. Toby Mac is AWESOME for working out.
I also like Move by John Ruben, and some KJ52 (some of their stuff is great, and some kinda cheesy, you just gotta pick through and find the beat that makes you move!)
I also had on my playlist
“Your Body is a Wonderland” byJohn Mayer ~disclaimer~ It made me remember who I was working out for 😉

  20. Definitely Pink’s “Funhouse” and “Rockstar”. Lady GaGa’s “Poker Face” got me through the last mile of a 10k, and here’s my embarrassing one….. “Don’t be Tardy for the Party” by Kim Zolciak- the beat of the song matches exactly to my running beat!

  21. Thanks for the playlist suggestions. I’m going to have to add a few of those. I recently added a couple of Gwen Stafani songs.. Hollabeck girl and No Doubts “It’s My Life”. Oldies but goodies!

  22. I’ve been trying to find Christian music that really moves, so far I have Group 1 Crew, Yancy (which I found through you!), Toby Mac, Mandisa to name a few.

Of course I also like Black Eyed Peas, Brittany, Beyonce, Pink and Lady Gaga.

Totally have my Itunes open checking out every one else’s playlist. I love to find new running music!

  23. Goodbye To You is one of my top 10 fave songs of all time and on my exercise playlist!

My exercise playlist is pretty big but here are some faves. And yes, it’s an odd mix. No judgment – I love a lot of music.

Dance Dance – Fallout Boy (I like the tune but not all the lyrics)
A Little Less Conversation JXL version – Elvis vs. JXL
I will Not Be Moved – Natalie Grant
Ignition and Catchafire – Toby Mac – LOVE these two!
Don’t Stop The Music and Pon De Replay – Rhianna
Just Fine – Mary J. Blige
Foreverandever Etc. – David Crowder Band
So What, Who Knew – Pink

    Desire, Beautiful Day – U2
Somebody Told Me – The Killers
