Fashion Friday: Print V-Neck Top Redux

Hello, friends. TGIF! This week was a busy one for me, but that also means that it flew. I cannot BELIEVE it will be April next weekend! That also means we’re in the home stretch with our 27 Days of Spring Fashion, my style collab with Cyndi Spivey. If you’re just tuning in, we’ve each been styling a new spring outfit every day but Sundays during the month of March. I’d like to think spring weather might actually arrive before our series ends, but I’m not so sure. Here’s hoping!

There’s plenty more spring fashion to come on the blog, although I won’t be posting new outfits every day until our summer series starts, probably in June. I admit, I’m ready for a break. It’s hard to keep up this pace, especially at this time of year when the weather is so unpredictable. I am very excited for the longer, warmer days to come!

Today I’m styling a top you may remember from the beginning of my spring series.

This print v-neck top was a bit of a surprise to me. It’s not a style I normally gravitate to, but I really like it, and I especially like that it looks good with a variety of bottoms. I styled it first with skinny jeans, today I’m wearing it with bootcut jeans, and I just ordered a pair of pale pink skinnies that should look great with it too. It’s hard to see in these pictures, but khaki, pink, rust, blue and green are all colors in this top.

For size reference, I bought the medium in this top, and I’m SO glad I did because it shrunk up a bit in the wash. It’s made of rayon, so I predicted that would happen. You can compare the fit in this post to my other post (before it was washed) to see the difference. The length is about the same, but it is definitely tighter.

I wore it for half a day on Wednesday, and it did loosen up some with wear, but it has some funky wrinkles in these pictures. I wish I’d tugged it down, but we were so cold, I didn’t waste any time primping, lol.

These bootcut jeans came in my last Trunk Club, and I love them. The fit is fabulous. They’re by 7 For All Mankind, and the soft b(air) denim features a contoured waistband for a gap-free fit. If you have trouble with jeans gapping in the waist area, these might work for you.

These jeans have a 33″ inseam, so I need to wear a 3½” or 4″ heel for them to be the proper length on me. If you’re tall, 7 For All Mankind also makes bootcut jeans with a 35″ inseam. Of course, everyone is different; the right length of jeans for you depends on the length of your legs and the heel height you plan to wear with them, but once you figure out the length you need, it makes it much easier to shop. And don’t rule out hemming. If you buy your jeans at Nordstrom, alterations are free, and I always ask them to retain the original hem. Any good tailor will know how to do that.

For a lower price point, check out these Wit & Wisdom Itty Bitty Bootcut jeans for $68. They also have a 33″ inseam, and they come in a 29″ inseam for petites as well. You may also want to peruse the bootcut jeans at Nordstrom Rack. I love the look of these Hudson bootcuts for $79 (that’s 63% off!) In fact, I’m tempted to order them. I really like that lighter wash. Hudson is another brand that makes some longer lengths.

Remember, it’s still Triple Points time at Nordstrom, Nordstrom Rack, and Hautelook! You can rack up those rewards points a lot faster right now, so try to take advantage of that if you have shopping to do.

I felt a little silly wearing open-toe shoes in 20-degree weather, but I had some questions on Tuesday’s post (when I styled these jeans with wedge sandals) about what other shoes you can wear with bootcut jeans, and these suede ankle wrap sandals with a chunky 4″ heel work perfectly. I personally think that almost any shoe with a heel looks good with bootcut jeans, and bonus points for a pointy toe, which helps elongate the legs even more. It’s more tricky to wear bootcut jeans with low heels or flats. Again, a pointy toe looks best, especially when wearing flats.

By the way, I brought along suede booties and changed into them before going on with my day. I did not run around town in open toe sandals in 20-degree weather, I can assure you! You can see a picture of that version of the outfit on Instagram.

Did I mention it was quite cold the morning we shot this outfit? Yeah, good times. Ordinarily, I’d wear a trench coat over an outfit like this in the springtime, but I wasn’t messing around with 20 degrees so I wore my camel reefer coat. I actually really like the way it compliments this outfit. It looked especially nice after I switched to booties.

To finish the outfit, I carried my perforated tote and wore these pretty white stone chandeliers and a gold circle pendant.

  1. This is perfect! I didn’t click over to compare, but I agree that it does seem to have a slightly different fit than the last time. It’s still a great looking top though and bonus that it’s so versatile!

  2. You just always look so gorgeous! I love those jeans on you. The fit is perfect. I am pretty tall, and it is sometimes hard for me to find a pair with a long enough inseam.

    1. Which brands do you recommend? People ask me all the time, and the 35″ is the longest I’ve found, but I’m only 5’5″ and I like the 33″ so I am assuming 35″ is not long enough for some.

  3. JoLynne, I’m sorry you’re still having so much cold weather! Just know you are helping those of us further south. We didn’t have much of a winter AT ALL this year! I brought out my fall/winter clothes just to put them back 2 months later. I got out early spring stuff (long sleeves, but brighter colors, thinner fabrics) and now they’re all too warm too. Switching to late spring/summer wear now. It’s supposed to be in the high 70’s and 80’s for the next 10+ days! We’re not ready for this heat because we know summer is coming and we all HATE our summers. Very high 90’s to 100’s + . Ugh! And it lasts F-O-R-E-V-E-R-R-R-R….

  4. I also bought that top. Haven’t worn it yet, but love that it is lightweight enough for warmer weather and modest enough for school functions, church, etc.

  5. Very nice look. I like the way the sandals take it from a casual to a more dressed up look.

You and Cyndi are so cute – I have NO idea how y’all can smile and look so comfortable in super cold weather! But you both do a great job at it! I wouldn’t have known it was that cold if you didn’t state so. LOL.

I hope you have a great weekend.

  6. You look so pretty!!! I love this outfit on you and the boot cut jeans are so sophisticated!! I love, love, love this outfit. I just might be able to pull it off! Thank you for styling another pair of bootcuts!

  7. Great casual look. I can’t believe you put sandals on! Ha, ha. I know you are doing the spring series, but dang girl, it is still cold out there! Ha, ha. You are not only beautiful, but brave as well. I’m such a wimp when it comes to taking pictures in the cold. I mean we do it, but I don’t usually pull my sandals out until it is consistently in the 70’s. That’s why I am always a tad bit behind! Ha, ha. Love your jeans. You look great. – Amy

  8. Boot cut jeans suit you. They give you a long, leggy look and are slimming. I bought a black pair this winter and now I’m going to buy these. Who doesn’t want to look a little slimmer. ????
Where are those warm temp? I’m so ready for a change in wardrobe.
