This EASY St. Patrick’s Day Craft is perfect for room moms looking for a St. Paddy’s Day Party activity or anyone wanting something festive and fun to do with their kids.
Growing up, every year when St. Patrick’s Day rolled around, my father was always quick to remind me of our Scottish heritage. He would insist that as Protestants, we were supposed to wear orange on St. Patrick’s Day.
Meanwhile, my friends always came to school decked out in St. Patty’s green. Of course, not wanting to get pinched, I gave into the peer pressure and happily donned my green and trotted off to school every March 17th.
These days St. Patty’s Day has become quite the holiday! I don’t know if it’s the advent of Pinterest, or the glorification of all things holiday-related that seems to be happening in our culture, but it seems like every year St. Patrick’s Day becomes a bigger and bigger deal among the school-age set. My daughter comes home talking of troublesome leprechauns turning her classrooms upside down, and of course there have been green crafts and green foods splashed all over Pinterest since February.
Well, far be it for me to be a Scrooge! I’m jumping on the bandwagon with this cute St. Patty’s Day craft. We all know I’m not at all crafty, but I thought this was such a fun idea for classroom parties or moms looking for festive activities to do with their kids at home.
Pinch Protector Craft
Materials:
- Clothespin
- Green and gold sequins
- Glue
- Green paint
- Paintbrush
- Fine tip Sharpie
Instructions:
Step 1: Paint a clothespin green and let it dry completely.
Step 2: Using a fine-tip Sharpie marker, write “Pinch Protector” on the top of your painted clothespin.
Step 3: Using glue, create a three leafed clover on the top of your clothespin with three green sequins for leaves and a gold sequin for the center.
Step 4: Once dry, pin your pinch protector to your clothes to protect you from being pinched on St. Patrick’s Day.
Cute, right?? And super easy, too.

I so forgot that tradition!! I am 1/4 Irish, so I am supposed to wear the orange. The first time I remember wearing it at school, I got pinched a bunch of times. Ever since then, it’s been green for me. Wish I would have had the pinch protector back then.
I remember being laughed at by the whole kindergarten class when I answered a confident “Orange!” to the teacher’s question of what color to wear on St. Patrick’s Day. I combine the orange and green with my family now. Love to honor our heritage, but enjoying the day as well! Love the craft!
