How to Wear Pastels in the Fall

Good morning, and TGIF!!!!!

This aqua dolman top came in a Stitch Fix last spring, and I knew the second I pulled it out of the box that I’d love it and wear it often. The style is relaxed but flattering, and the material is super soft. It’s an awesome color for spring and summer, as it pairs well with white as well beige. I’ve worn it with both.

But it’s also fabulous paired with black or grey, which carries it right into fall. I threw on this outfit to run over to my daughter’s elementary school to volunteer at the book fair one mild fall day a few weeks ago, and I just I love it.

I carried my black Moto Hobo. This bag is getting a ton of airtime this fall, and I am kind of surprised by that. I haven’t had a go-to black handbag in years because I generally prefer other neutrals or fun colors, but this bag is perfect in black, and I’m so glad I scored it on the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale back in August.

SALE ALERT!!! The black R Minkoff Moto Hobo that I’m carrying here is ON SALE at Amazon.com for $248.10 PLUS you can get 20% off with the promo code 20VETERANS, bringing it down to $198.48!!!!! If you’ve been watching this, hoping for a sale, this is a pretty good deal. The original retail price is $325, and I paid $162.49 on the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, so you could hold out, but I wanted to let you know. Thanks to reader Sandy for tipping me off!

Anyway, movingrightalong.

The Arabesque Necklace is from my Stella & Dot shop. I wanted something long with this top, but not a pendant. A pendant always seems to fall between the cracks, if you get my drift. *wink* I often wear a tank underneath to avoid that issue, but I didn’t want to fuss with that under this top. I like how this chain necklace lays nicely, and the aqua amazonite stones compliment the top.

Yes, I know, I’ve been wearing these black jeans to death. I can’t help it! They seem to go with everything, plus they’re super flattering AND comfortable. What more can you ask for!?! These are the DL1961 Amanda skinnies that I scored on a HauteLook sale. They’re no longer available, but I linked to a few similar styles below. Because the Nordstrom Fall Clearance Sale is going on, there are several pairs of great black jeans on sale. WOOT!

I actually wore sandals to the school because I had a fresh pedicure (priorities!) but I threw on my Felicia Flats for this picture. They definitely would have been my first choice had my toenails not been at stake. Haha! I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. These flats are like wearing slippers. If they ever go on sale, I’m scooping up another pair in a different color.

  1. This color looks beautiful on you! I can see how this top would be very versatile and it just Looks soft. 🙂 Thanks for the tips on the handbag!

  2. Beautiful bag and outfit! Nordstroms doesn’t pricematch Amazon….it’s only department stores and websites like Shopbop.

  3. I’ve been loving your black jeans. I really need to find time at some point to ditch the 2 year old and go try on a bunch of jeans. I’m not paying full price, but I need to be able to see how things fit on me before I can try to find sales online. I just HATE trying to buy pants. Jeans aren’t quite as bad, but still a pain. Trying 10-20 pairs to not be guaranteed to find anything isn’t fun.

  4. i just got the same top in my stitch fix box . Mine is a demin blue which looks great with blue jeans . but I may want to try it with my black jeans. I love my black Kut from Kluth Jeans, I think i may wear them to much. this is a great outfit !
    Thanks for the idea

  5. Cute outfit! You truly always look flawless. Off topic, are you done with food posts? It seems like you’ve shifted to fashion posts for most days. I’m using your achieves for meal plans, love them!

    1. Wow, flawless is a lot to live up to! HA! I am not totally done with food, although I am definitely narrowing my focus to the fashion topics. I just can’t do it all, and it has been such a relief to have a focus! That said, I have a couple of recipes that my friend Colleen created that I’ll be sharing. 🙂 I’m glad you’re enjoying them!

  6. The Felicia flats are on sale in a few suede colors (Nordstrom). I just ordered the rust/red. I have them in black leather and I agree with you about the comfort.

  7. Thanks for this post. Love the outfit. I just started getting Fixes from Stitch Fix – I really like it and it’s so fun! I’m on my third one and and trying to decide what to keep. I could send it all back but I do like some of the pieces. I’ve been trying for jeans and they sent me black Kut from the Kloth skinny jeans. They fit but I couldn’t figure out what I didn’t like about them. Although they technically “fit” they are really tight in the thigh (I definitely have heavier thighs) and much looser in my calf. After seeing how long yours are, it makes me think that they’re not long enough and that’s what’s bugging me. They are just at the top of my foot so look okay with flats but I think longer would be better and more flattering.
I have a question about Stitch Fixes you’ve received – are there things that you’ve wished you’ve kept? Any thing you’ve learned or advice on keeping those pieces that you think look good but you could keep or send back? Do you only buy things you love?

  8. Love those jeans! Can you style your ponte knit pants this week? I’m still trying to figure them out. 🙂

    1. So I ended up going casual yesterday since I was working the nursery at church. I will still try to wear those ponte pants, but honestly, I don’t love them with the bigger tops that are stylish this fall. I think they look best with fitted tops, like a blazer or a tucked in blouse or a traditional V-neck sweater. That’s how I was going to wear mine — with a V-neck and a scarf – like with this outfit: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/112730796900147310/

I live in jeans (as you know) and I keep a pair of Ponte Pants in my closet for business events where jeans aren’t appropriate, but I don’t wear them much.

      1. LOL. I actually did wear the ponte knit pants to church yesterday. They were soooo comfy and looked great. So glad I got them.

  9. The Gold Felicia flats are on amazon for 50 bucks and 6 pm has several other colors for about the same price. I LOVE these shoes. I have the Sterling ones and they are really pretty as well as super comfortable. I can walk for miles in them as well as looking cute. I have the leather brown ones and actually think that the Sterling ones are even MORE comfortable.
