How to Wear Leopard Print and Stripes This Fall

Hi friends! TGIF! I’ve got a casual outfit today that combines some of my favorite fall favorites — a utility jacket, leopard print, and stripes!

A utility jacket is a workhorse in your fall wardrobe. It pairs so well with jeans and a tee, but you can also throw it on over a dress, and when it gets colder, a lightweight sweater.

Underneath I’m wearing a navy and white striped tee.

I love a utility jacket over a stripe tee for fall!

I’m carrying a Sole Society satchel. This is a great bag if you don’t mind that it’s not leather. I love how it compliments the leopard flats and creates a pleasing color contrast against the olive green and denim.

These are my DL1961 Florence skinny jeans. I picked them up on sale a few years ago, and they are one of my go-to jeans in the fall and winter. They have a 30″ inseam, as opposed to the 29″ or 28″ inseams in my ankle jeans, and I prefer this length with ballet flats. I feel like they elongate the line of the leg and create a slimmer silhouette.

Leopard flats are a year-round staple in my wardrobe. I bought a pair last fall and wore them out, so I just purchased these.

Add hoops, a pendant necklace, and a few bangles, and I’m good to go!

This is the type of casual outfit that I pretty much want to live in this time of year. I love the combination of colors and patterns. The nice thing is, it’s still cute without the jacket, so whether you’re outside or inside or back and forth, you look chic and put-together.

  2. Applause, applause Jo-Lynne….this is so chic!!
i love how you’re experimenting with a little print mixing!!
I’m not a huge mixer of my prints, but this is exactly how I dabble in it—with the prints farther from each other!!
I think this is definitely a go-to outfit—-I could style this easily for all three of us!

  3. Great outfit. I would wear this often. I have never bought White House Black Market. Does the black dolman t shirt run true to size?

  4. I read in the reviews of the DL1961 Florence jeans that you have to hand wash? This I feel would be a deal breaker for me? Do you hand wash your jeans? #whosgottimeforthat?

  5. Cute, cute CUTE!!!! Loving that combo!!!! Love those adorable flats Any luck finding a similar shoe cheaper?!?!?!? Thanks for the great inspiration!!! Cant wait for it to get cool enough in South Alabama to start wearing some of these things!!!!

  6. I started reading your blog last summer and it inspired me to try a pair of DL1961 Florence jeans and I now own 3 pairs along with an ankle length Margaux. I had never heard of this brand and had only tried Paige, AG, and Joe’s but this brand is my absolute favourite. So thanks for starting my obsession 🙂

  7. Great look, Jo-Lynne! My post from yesterday featured leopard print flats worn three ways for fall, and one outfit included a striped shirt. I guess we were thinking alike this week. 🙂 Melissa

  8. Totally awesome outfit!! Perfect for our Minnesota fall weather!! Can’t wait to create this outfit. I work from home too so this outfit will be a staple for me. Thanks for great outfit inspiration.

  9. Such a great, easy outfit! This is pretty much the sort of thing I wear all fall/winter so I love when you do these posts. I bought a gray utility jacket at the #NSale and I can’t wait to wear it! Unfortunately, south Georgia weather being what it is I may not be wearing it until Thanksgiving! Ugh…the heat never ends.

  10. I just bought a utility jacket and love it! I like how you paired a navy striped tee with it! Jo-Lynne, I appreciate it when you give links to cheaper options on some of your outfits. Today the outfit alone would cost me $650.00 regular price and I just can’t afford, nor justify, spending that much on clothing every day. Thank you for all your hard work! I often am able to recreate many of your outfits by shopping my own closet and/or hunting for less expensive, yet quality items!

    1. I’m glad it’s helpful. I aim to please! 🙂 But I have to say, it’s funny that you mention adding up the cost of the outfit. Do you add up the costs of your outfit and gauge your budget by that? I never think about my outfits in terms of overall price. I definitely have a threshold I’m willing to pay for clothing items — and that varies depending on how often I’ll wear it and by how much the quality affects how it fits or feels — but I never add everything up because some of the items in an outfit I may wear 100 tines and others I might wear 5. I think more about cost per wear. Anyway, just curious b/c I found that interesting. (Also, I do get a lot of the things I’m showing on sale, but then they aren’t always on sale when I wear them, so my outfits aren’t always as expensive all added up as it seems.)

And I definitely create outfits like this that are made up of so many great basics with the hope that y’all will shop your closet or your favorite retailers to recreate it, or find inspiration to come up with your own variations. I explain why I like the pieces I’m wearing, because I think that’s helpful too for people who are shopping, but I also don’t ever want my blog to seem like a big sales pitch. And I’ve been trying to integrate some more budget-friendly pieces — like this satchel — into my blog outfits, as well, because I know people like to see different price points.

I know we’re all working with different budgets and different priorities so I hope there’s a little something for *almost* everyone here. I say almost b/c if you’re looking for high style, this ain’t it. Haha! 🙂

  11. Love everything about this outfit and I have almost every piece in my closet. Except…a cognac coloured tote. It is on my list for Fall. I agree with you about t-shirts – I have to stop wearing the standard Gap tee as it doesn’t fit that well. Have a great weekend!

  12. I’m not sure what your asking Jolynne but I’ll try to answer. Yes, I do take into consideration the cost of what I’m paying for an entire outfit. I will lay down good money for an item I’ll wear multiple times, such as a pair of blue jeans but I try to be frugal with items that I’ll wear only occasionally or are trendy. I’ve found a quality, higher priced blazer can make a 20.00 tee look like a million bucks.

You have a fashion Blog and this is your job to style fashion! I wasn’t critizing you, rather I was saying thank you for offering lower priced options which will help me to create many of the fashionable outfits you wear but within a lower budget.

    Blessings,
    Nancy

    1. Oh, I understood that. I didn’t mean to sound defensive. (Or interrogating, ha!) I was truly curious. It never occurred to me to add up the cost per outfit. I appreciate your comment and I’m glad to know the options are helpful. 🙂
