How to Rock a White T-Shirt and Jeans like a Celeb

Good morning, friends! TGIF! Today I’m talking about how to wear a white t-shirt and jeans like a celeb. You’ve seen pictures, right? Jennifer Aniston is my favorite example of girl-next-door style. She can rock a white tee and jeans like no other, but how does she make this basic combination look so chic?

Of course fit is key, so I’m super excited to tell you about the Perfect White Tee.

How to Rock the Perfect White Tee with Bootcut Jeans and Leopard Pumps

My friend Carly Walko is a personal stylish and fashion blogger at Thirty Something Fashion, and after getting fed up with her favorite tees wearing out and being discontinued, she decided to design her own high quality t-shirt. They’re called Thirty Something Tees, and they are made right here in Pennsylvania. Not only that, but sales from these tees give back to the community — $1.50 from each t-shirt sold will be donated to K.Hovnanian Children’s Hospital. You must watch Carly’s video describing her inspiration and her mission.

She sent me one to try, and the second I put it on, I knew it was going to quickly become a trusted closet staple.

This white tee is so super soft, and it has just a hint of texture, which elevates it above your basic Gap t-shirt. It’s fitted but not tight, and it has the perfect V-neckline. She also has a grey tee that is made with a slightly different spandex content, making it fit a bit more snugly than the white. For size reference, I’m wearing the Medium.

I wanted to show how to wear a white t-shirt and jeans as both a fabulous stand-alone outfit, as well as a foundation for a layered look. Of course the key to making a white tee and jeans work is to be sure both fit to perfection. Don’t rule out tailoring — even for a simple t-shirt. That’s one tip I learned from Adore Your Wardrobe. I’d never have thought to tailor a tee before I took that course. Fortunately, my new Thirty Something Tee fit perfectly right out of the box.

I debated skinny jeans or bootcut, colored shoes or neutral, and I ended up styling my white tee with baby bootcut jeans and leopard pumps. And of course the accessorizing possibilities with a white tee and jeans are virtually endless. Statement earrings or a big colorful statement necklace would draw attention up towards the face.

A trendy lariat or a cool choker would work well too, but I kept it fairly simple with a layered quartz gold chain necklace, gold hoop earrings, and a stack of mixed metal Alex and Ani charm bangles.

To take the outfit up a notch, I added this red knit blazer.

I’ve had this in my closet for quite a while, just waiting for the right opportunity to wear it. I tried it over some dressier tops, but I absolutely love how it pairs with this classic white V-neck tee.

It has a great shape to it, and I love the seaming in the back. Because it’s cotton knit, it’s as comfortable as a cardigan but it flatters like a blazer.

The winged lapels and slant welt pockets are great details. It’s professional enough for an office environment, but the relaxed open styling keeps it comfortably casual.

This jacket runs small, so definitely size down. I’m wearing the small. It’s selling out fast, but it does come in 3 other colors — olive, navy, and black. They are all great basics that would be nice to have.

I can’t wait to have an opportunity to wear this outfit. It will be perfect for a lunch appointment or a blogging event or conference. If I swap out the bootcut jeans for black skinnies, it will also be a great night out look.

  1. Jo-Lynne—I think this is the absolute perfect way to wear a white t-shirt. I know society has gotten very casual, but by adding in some great shoes (instead of athletic sneakers) and then even the jacket—you look so sophisticated and wordly!!
Besides you in your dresses, this is one of my faves!

  2. This is a killer white tee outfit! The perfect white tee has eluded me too, so I will have to check these out.
I snatched up a small TB york immediately on Thursday (I didn’t even allow myself to browse one more thing, lol). I had gotten the regular size during the sale a couple weeks ago, but it’s just way too big and heavy for me..I really thought bigger would be better..until I tried carrying it for a full day! Ouch. It’s gorgeous though.

    1. That TB York has been on my wish list for years. Now that I have the RM with the laptop pocket, I think I’m set for a cognac tote, but I still eye up that TB longingly. 🙂 I’m glad to know about the small vs regular size. I had wondered which was best for daily use.

  3. I wouldn’t think of wearing a white tee in the fall but really like it with the cranberry blazer! Thanks for the idea. Side note- how do you secure your hair when you pull it back? I recently had my haircut to a similar style after wearing long hair for many years. Still trying to figure out how to style it!

  4. Hi JoLynn, I am moving to the Philly area in the next few months. Would you say your style is reflective of the style of the area? I know you are a “Southern”girl, but I want to fit in with the East coast vibe. Great versatile outfit BTW.

    1. Hey Sue. Yes, definitely. I’ve been here for 21 years, and I’d say my style is pretty representative of the area. We’re not New England preppy, but we’re not the colorful South either, ha! It depends a bit on the region of Philly, but yeah, I think I’m pretty typical. If you need any advice or have any questions about the area, feel free to email me!

  5. I’m a huge supporter of blazer with white tee and jeans, and used to wear that particular uniform at least twice each week for work GRIN I’m very much liking your rendition here, Jo-Lynne, especially the rich jewel tone of the blazer/cardigan (love it when it’s knit and stretchy) and those heels. Never not a good idea for leopard print. Or any other form of animal print for that matter 🙂

    Happy weekend!!
