How to Rock a White T-Shirt and Jeans like a Celeb
Good morning, friends! TGIF! Today I’m talking about how to wear a white t-shirt and jeans like a celeb. You’ve seen pictures, right? Jennifer Aniston is my favorite example of girl-next-door style. She can rock a white tee and jeans like no other, but how does she make this basic combination look so chic?
Of course fit is key, so I’m super excited to tell you about the Perfect White Tee.
My friend Carly Walko is a personal stylish and fashion blogger at Thirty Something Fashion, and after getting fed up with her favorite tees wearing out and being discontinued, she decided to design her own high quality t-shirt. They’re called Thirty Something Tees, and they are made right here in Pennsylvania. Not only that, but sales from these tees give back to the community — $1.50 from each t-shirt sold will be donated to K.Hovnanian Children’s Hospital. You must watch Carly’s video describing her inspiration and her mission.
She sent me one to try, and the second I put it on, I knew it was going to quickly become a trusted closet staple.
This white tee is so super soft, and it has just a hint of texture, which elevates it above your basic Gap t-shirt. It’s fitted but not tight, and it has the perfect V-neckline. She also has a grey tee that is made with a slightly different spandex content, making it fit a bit more snugly than the white. For size reference, I’m wearing the Medium.
I wanted to show how to wear a white t-shirt and jeans as both a fabulous stand-alone outfit, as well as a foundation for a layered look. Of course the key to making a white tee and jeans work is to be sure both fit to perfection. Don’t rule out tailoring — even for a simple t-shirt. That’s one tip I learned from Adore Your Wardrobe. I’d never have thought to tailor a tee before I took that course. Fortunately, my new Thirty Something Tee fit perfectly right out of the box.
I debated skinny jeans or bootcut, colored shoes or neutral, and I ended up styling my white tee with baby bootcut jeans and leopard pumps. And of course the accessorizing possibilities with a white tee and jeans are virtually endless. Statement earrings or a big colorful statement necklace would draw attention up towards the face. A trendy lariat or a cool choker would work well too, but I kept it fairly simple with a layered quartz gold chain necklace, gold hoop earrings, and a stack of mixed metal Alex and Ani charm bangles. I just wish I’d thought to bring along my burgundy suede bucket bag. It would be the perfect finishing touch to this outfit. Even so, I love this simple outfit with the neutral color palette. It’s so easy but still chic and put together.
To take the outfit up a notch, I added this red knit open front blazer.
I’ve had this in my closet for quite a while, just waiting for the right opportunity to wear it. I tried it over some dressier tops, but I absolutely love how it pairs with this classic white V-neck tee.
It has a great shape to it, and I love the seaming in the back. Because it’s cotton knit, it’s as comfortable as a cardigan but it flatters like a blazer.
The winged lapels and slant welt pockets are great details. It’s professional enough for an office environment, but the relaxed open styling keeps it comfortably casual.
You’ve seen these Mavi Baby Bootcut Jeans before. I got them in a Stitch Fix a few years ago, but they’re also available at Nordstrom, and they seem to be perpetually 40% off. They have a nice amount of stretch and are very comfortable to wear.
Premium denim is well worth the investment, but I do try to always buy mine on sale. Speaking of sales, Shopbop is running a great one right now, and they carry tons of premium denim as well as designer handbags, shoes, boots, and so much more!
SALE ALERT >> Save 25% off your Shopbop order of up to $500, and 30% over $500 with code MAINEVENT16. Sale ends October 14, 2016, at 11:59 pm PT.
They carry tons of AG jeans as well. I ordered these AG Raw Hem Legging Ankle Jeans last night because I don’t have any distressed blue jeans, and I’m a huge fan of AG. I’d never pay their full retail price *gulp* but at 30% off, they are hard to resist! I also decided to invest in the Clare V Clutch. I’ve been wanting one for ages so when I saw that it was included in the sale, I snapped it up.
I’m drooling over this Tory Burch Marion Suede Hobo but I. MUST. RESIST. This Perry Hobo is another great bag, and it’s leather so it will be more practical. Oooh! And there is ONE of the classic Tory Burch York Buckle Tote left. Someone ought to grab it! I’m tempted but I just got the Rebecca Minkoff tote, and they would pretty much serve the same purpose. Speaking of Rebecca Minkoff, Shopbop carries a ton of her bags as well. My Moto Hobo is included in the sale, and this Isobel Hobo is so cute with the tassels. The Regan Satchel is another one I’ve had my eye on. So many bags, so little closet space… ha!
Also, my Miller Thong Sandals are included in the sale. I don’t think I have EVER seen these on sale, you guys. They are my absolute faves. And you should grab your Sorel boots now because these always sell out. If you live in a cold climate, you know how valuable these are when winter arrives!
This Shopbop Sale really should be a post all its own, but the sale ends tonight, so I thought I’d just throw it in here.
This jacket runs small, so definitely size down. I’m wearing the small. It’s selling out fast, but it does come in 3 other colors — olive, navy, and black. They are all great basics that would be nice to have.
I can’t wait to have an opportunity to wear this outfit. It will be perfect for a lunch appointment or a blogging event or conference. If I swap out the bootcut jeans for black skinnies, it will also be a great night out look.
