How to Wear a Faux Fur Vest

Today I’m joining Cyndi and Alison for a fun style collab. We decided to share how we each style one of the season’s hottest trends — a faux fur vest.

A faux fur vest is a current fall trend that can add some extra pizzazz to your wardrobe, so when I saw this one at Bloomingdales for $56, I snatched it right up. I thought I’d find a gazillion ways to wear it, but I’ll confess, I struggled to style this piece to my liking. The more I look around at fur vest outfits on Pinterest, the more I like the idea of dressing it down with more casual wardrobe pieces. However, for this post, I’m sharing an outfit that I might wear out for a date night at a fancy restaurant or to see a show in Philly. Take a look.

Outfit Details: Jack by BB DAKOTA Faux Fur Vest | Lush ‘Perfect’ Roll Tab Sleeve Tunic in Tawny Port | Amanda Skinny Jean in Bismarck (similar; budget option) | Leopard Patent Pumps (old; similar) | Stella & Dot Nancy Studs | Stella & Dot Gitane Tassel Necklace (ON SALE!!! $48.30 while supplies last!!!) | Clutch (old; similar; budget option)

The Roll Tab Sleeve Tunic is a fantastic wardrobe staple. I’m about to order a white one. I love that you can dress it up or down, and it pairs nicely with jeans or leggings.

My black jeans are fast becoming one of my favorite fall purchases. I don’t know how I lived without them before. Of course, you could wear ponte pants or leggings with this outfit too, but I like the edgy vibe of the faded black denim. This pair is similar, although I didn’t pay that much for mine. I’m always watching for sales on premium denim, and that’s when I stock up.

Finally, the leopard pumps are old, but they’re classic. I often wear them when I want to dress up a casual outfit. These are similar.

The jewelry is from my Stella & Dot boutique. If you ever want more information on any of our pieces, please feel free to zap me an email!

While I like this outfit, it’s a little fussy for my taste. I can’t see myself getting much wear out of it. I’m going to play around in my closet and come up with a few other outfits with this fur vest that might be more practical for my casual lifestyle. When I come up with something I like, I’ll be sure to share them with you!

Meanwhile, head on over to Get Your Pretty On and Grace + Beauty to see how Alison and Cyndi are styling their faux fur vests!

If you’re visiting from Alison or Cyndi for the first time, I hope you’ll stick around! You can subscribe to my emails, and feel free to peruse my fashion archives for more wearable outfit ideas. 1. Absolutely fabulous! I’ve had my eye on these and shearling vests for awhile, I just love what they add to an outfit. As much as I adore this look though, I have the same concerns you mentioned. I really don’t think it’s very practical for my extremely casual lifestyle, so I’ve held off for now. I’m still wanting that tunic though! ????

    1. I just got a shearling vest too. I KNOW. I am so bad. I think I might like it better than the fur. The fur feels a little ridiculous to me, but then maybe when it’s colder, and I have somewhere fun to wear it, I’ll feel differently.

  2. I like this look on you! I bought a faux fur vest last winter and have worn it a few times, mostly with jeans or black jeans and a long-sleeve t-shirt. It dresses up an otherwise super casual outfit, and is warm enough to wear in place of a jacket before the weather gets too cold here in the Northeast. It’s fun to wear around the holidays, too!

    1. Yes, that’s how I’m going to try it next. Oddly, I didn’t have a long-sleeve tee that seemed right with it. I think I need some wardrobe basics, which is hard to believe, but I do! LOL

  3. Thanks for styling these vests! I just picked up a similar one at Burlington Coat Factory for $35. Glad to see it’s on trend!

  4. I felt the same about the fur vest I tried on. It just didn’t feel like me. I do like it on Alison with the chambray shirt though. Maybe, I was styling it wrong.

  5. This post is very timely, as I just purchased a fur vest! Thanks for the pointers, these are great. p.s. love your style!

  6. Jo-Lynne,

You look really cute, as always. I would try the fur vest, but I live in Phoenix and it just never gets cold enough. I do love the trend though!!

  7. I have a few faux fur vests, the one I wear all the time its a Rachel Zoe from QVC, its a bit longer, the other one I was given as a gift, I wont wear it, with me being bigger chested feel like a big bear in it!! I try it on every now and again and ask hubby.. he shakes his head no. lol.. This one looks great on you!!!! Style away I cant wait to see what else you come up with!

  8. Thank you for this post! I have been searching for a gray faux fur vest for a long time. I just ordered it from Bloomingdale’s and I can’t wait to get it! I hope it looks as good in person as it does on you!
