Happy Father’s Day! #CoffeeTalk

I realize this blog is geared primarily to women these days, but I suppose there may be a few men who still follow along… so to any dads out there, I hope you have a happy and relaxing Father’s Day full of family time, good food, and maybe a ball game or two with no one nagging you to pick up your socks. Ha! At least, that’s probably what my husband is wishing for.

In fact, I hope you all have a lovely Father’s Day, celebrating the dads and father figures in your lives. I’ll miss seeing my dad today, but we’ll be together in Maine in just a few weeks.

That’s a picture of us on Father’s Day circa 2011. I think it’s time to get a new picture with my dad!

If you really want to see a blast from the past, here’s one of my husband and me from 1999 — the year he became a dad. I was about 6 months pregnant in this picture, and we were tailgating before a Springsteen concert. Also note the sunglasses — proof positive that updating your sunglasses can drastically update your whole look! (Or date your pictures for future generations, lol.)

Fast forward 18 years, and here we are! That is really hard to wrap my head around.

Last year we spent Father’s Day on vacation, and this is one of my favorite pictures of Paul and our three kids. He’s always the one playing and having fun and keeping things light around here.

I often joke and say it’s like having four kids, but that’s not fair. He does way more than his fair share when it comes to parenting, and I’m so glad we get to do life together. It’s funny, when you’re 23 and in love, you don’t really think about things like, Will he be a good dad?? But I really lucked out with this guy.

In fact, I’m incredibly blessed by all of the fathers in my life — my dad, my father-in-law, and my husband are all amazing fathers, and I’m so grateful for their influence in our lives and our children’s lives.

I know not everyone reading along feels that way and Father’s Day is hard for many, especially those who have lost their dads. If that’s your story, I hope you find some joy in the day and get to spend some quality time with friends or family members who are a blessing to you.

We don’t have any big plans for today, but I’ll be grilling chicken kabobs — one of my husband’s favorite meals, and if the weather clears up, we may take the girls to the pool after we get my son back to camp. It’s looking kind of gloomy, though, and not really like pool weather so we’ll probably hang around here in the neighborhood and see if anyone’s up for a get-together.

My son made it home from his camp orientation yesterday, and in typical teenage style, he went back out with friends for the evening so I barely saw him, but it sounds like he had a good week and is excited to get back and start his first official week as a camp counselor.

In other news, I went out this morning to run/walk for the first time in literally a month, and it felt GREAT. I’m still having dizziness, but it comes and goes, and for the most part I’m getting back to normal activities. (I’m also going to PT for vestibular therapy, for those who don’t get my emails. I think I mentioned that in my email yesterday.)

I felt pretty good when I got up this morning so I decided it was time to get out there again, and it was awesome. Of course, I have to build back up my strength and stamina, but I don’t mind that. I just need to get some endorphins flowing around here!

That’s about it for my life updates. I need to start getting ready for church. I hope you all have a blessed Sunday and a very happy Father’s Day!

  1. Hope you enjoy your Day with hubby and kids! Loved the old pic you posted and I didn’t think the sunglasses were so bad!

I too have been experiencing lightedheadedness and dizziness over the past 2 years but was told by my doc that it was vertigo. Fast forward to the last two weeks and I’ve had several episodes that are lasting longer so I’ll be calling the doctor tomorrow. Of course I’ve been googling for self diagnosis- thyroid issue, low blood sugar, inner ear issue, blocked artery.. but I think I’ll get some blood tests and see what the doc says! It’s scary when you feel like your going to pass out. Let me know how your therapy goes. Thanks for listening????

  2. I love the pictures from the past. My husband is the cook around here (by choice). He has had his meal planned for two weeks. Our children bought him a smoker that has 4 shelves. He is smoking 2 briskests, a turkey, and ribs. I will make the potato salad, and maybe some deviled eggs. I kept asking him what he wanted for dessert. He decided he would make his banana pudding he loves to make.

He cooks, and we all clean. Lol

Happy Father’s Day to your husband. I hope you have a beautiful day.

  3. A very nice Coffee Talk this morning. As I was reading my devotionals this morning, my focus turned to my Heavenly Father, the one that paid the ultimate price for me, and has been & will be with me forever and forever. I miss my earthly father so much, even after all these years, but I don’t want to be sad. So I am focusing on Larry and the many male friends we have that are so good and special to us. I am thinking of all of those that have just had to say goodbye to their earthly fathers. My heart aches for them. Thanks for sharing the old picture of you and Paul. Y’all looked great then and time has been good to the both of you. Enjoy your day!

  4. Glad you honored dad’s today. As cute as that pic is of you and your husband you look better today. You are my favorite blogger. Even though I can’t wear all you style due to age it is very helpful. Prayers for recovery from your dizziness.
