Fall Outfit Inspo & #NSale Reviews

Hello, friends. Happy FRIDAY! Public access to the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale started at 3AM and things are already flying off the virtual shelves.

I actually set my alarm so I could try to get those Stuart Weitzman OTK boots in the brown, but it was a no go. They were only restocked in a few sizes, and they sold out in 10 minutes. Maybe I was meant to keep the black… I will keep checking over the next week and hope for some returns.

In fact, I was really disappointed at the lack of restocks across all categories. I was expecting more, and I’m not sure why they haven’t done a better job at holding back some of the popular styles for the public sale. I’m hoping they’ll release more throughout the day and the next week, but only time will tell. My best advice is to keep checking back. I have those boots open in a tab in my browser, and I refresh anytime I think about it. LOL!

Yesterday I updated my Guide to the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale post with my latest product details and recommendations since I’ve tried on a lot more of the styles since I originally wrote the post. You can see that HERE. Also, you might like my Splurge, Spend, Save #NSale post that has a lot of detailed information about different products in the sale as well as some of my favorite recommendations.

***GIVEAWAY WINNER***

Before we get started on today’s post, I want to announce the winner from the $250 Nordstrom Gift Card giveaway.

Congratulations to Bianca R. for her winning entry! Please check your email for instructions on how to claim your prize. You have 24-hours to reply or another winner will be randomly selected. Thanks to all who particpated!

Today I’m sharing some fall outfit inspiration from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. I know it’s early to be thinking about fall, but this way you can shop these looks now if you wish, and if you like the ideas, pin these pictures to your fall fashion Pinterest board to use for outfit inspiration when the leaves start to change and Starbucks is serving pumpkin spice lattes again!

For your reference, I’m 5’5″ and 135# on a good day, and I’m short-waisted with a slightly hourglass shape. I tend to run between sizes, which is fun. (NOT!) I’m usually a 6 or 8 in pants and jeans and a small or medium in tops. I wear an 8 or 8.5 shoe, and on rare occasion a 7.5 or a 9. LOL!

#1. This first outfit is a bit of a miss for me, although I’m not sure why. I pulled in the navy (sweater) and burgundy (jeans) from the scarf, and the tee is beige so not so stark as white, but somehow this doesn’t excite me. Perhaps a taupe or ivory cardigan would look better.

stripe scarf // long cardigan // short sleeve tee // jeans (tall girl alternative) // booties // earrings

This long cardigan is definitely a keeper for me. I’ve already worn it once with shorts (see below) and I just love how it wears, plus it’s thin and very soft. I feel like it is flattering, elongating, etc. That’s hard to find in a long cardigan. I’m tempted to buy it in another color. For size reference, I have the small.

This t-shirt is one of my favorites (see this post with my 5 favorite tees!) I’m wearing a beige color from last year, but it comes in a ton of other great colors including white and is only $17 on the #NSale!

These 7FAM jeans are so so so flattering. I chose them over the AG pair because I like the raw hem and the shorter length (they’re 28″ inseam as opposed to 30″) plus they’re under $100. If you’re tall, go for the AG, and if you’re looking for a more budget-friendly price point, check out this pair at $41.

These booties are one of my favorite finds in this whole sale. They are so comfortable, style easily with ankle length jeans due to the low shaft, and they add a slightly rugged vibe to my classic outfits. For $89, I couldn’t resist!

Finally, I got these earrings in both silver and gold. That’s how much I love them.

#2. Okay, so here’s the second version of the outfit. Something about the blue jeans and burgundy sweater just seem to work better for some reason, although I’m not entirely sure why.

stripe scarf // long cardigan // short sleeve tee // jeans (high rise alternative) // booties // earrings

Again, I love this scarf because it’s thin and not terribly bulky, and this t-shirt and the booties are a few of my favorites #NSale purchases.

For this look, I went with a burgundy cardigan that is lightweight with an open knit. I like how it fits, although the quality isn’t great. It’s fine for the price, though, and it definitely looks cute on.

These jeans are among the most talked about in the entire sale. It’s a great price for AG, and I definitely recommend snapping them up while they’re available. They are on backorder, unfortunately, but they’ll make a nice early Christmas gift in November! I have heard all kinds of different sizing recommendations on these. I personally feel they run small, and I ordered a size up from what I normally wear in AG. Keep in mind, they do have a very low rise. It says 8″ and it feels at least that low. If you like a higher rise, the Paige ankle jeans that are part of the sale are a great alternative, and they’re only $99, which is almost 50% off. And if you want a similar look at a more budget-friendly price point, these fit well and look good on.

#3. This is the same outfit as #2 but I changed out the scarf for a different look.

blanket scarf // long cardigan // short sleeve tee // jeans (high rise alternative) // booties // earrings

I love the colors in this blanket scarf. It’s a heavier/warmer fabric than the stripe one above, but it isn’t super thick so it drapes nicely. I definitely find it harder to style than the stripe scarf above, but it’s pretty if you like blanket scarves. Personally, I never wear them like this out and about. I prefer the oblong shape that I can wrap.

#4. This isn’t that interesting of an outfit, but I wanted to show the sweater. Warning, it’s a bit of a splurge.

ribbed cashmere turtleneck sweater // jeans (high rise alternative) // booties // earrings

I’m actually undecided on this sweater. I love how soft it is, the cowl neck, the bell sleeves, and how it has some shape through the waist area; but it’s about an inch too long to be ideal for me. If you’re taller, you might really like this. I might like it with those merlot jeans or black jeans and black OTK boots. I feel like the balance is a little off in this outfit. For size reference, I’m wearing the small, and I think it’s the right size so it is TTS or you can size down if in between. It also comes in ivory or a taupe/black stripe.

#5. This is another splurgy sweater that I threw on with the AG jeans and Jeffery Campbell booties so I can show you how it fits, but I’d like this outfit better with cognac knee suede boots or brown riding boots. Or OTK boots would be cute too.

cashmere bell sleeve pullover // jeans (high rise alternative) // booties // earrings

This sweater is so soft and luxe. I love the v-neck, the length, and the grey stripe up the back. I just wish it fit closer to the body and the sleeves were a little bit longer. I can’t decide if that’s intentional or not. For size reference, I’m wearing a small. For the price, I probably should be head over heels in love to even think about keeping it, plus I have a similar style from last year by Vince that I love so I probably don’t need both, but I really like the ivory color and that grey stripe detail is unique and fun. If you’re in the market for something like this, I think you’ll love it.

#6. This right here is the kind of outfit I live in all winter long.

rib knit cardigan // short sleeve tee // jeans (high rise alternative) // perforated booties // unlined hobo

I probably wouldn’t have given this cardigan a second look until I saw it on another blogger and she raved about how comfortable and cute it is. While it has a more voluminous fit than I typically go for, somehow it drapes in such a way that it isn’t unflattering, and it is just soooo cozy. Everyone raves about the Barefoot Dreams sweaters, and I haven’t tried them, but I can’t imagine that they’re much softer than this. For $35, it’s hard to pass up.

I gave details on the tee and jeans above, but let’s discuss these booties. I admired a similar pair by Lucky Brand all last year so when I saw these, I ordered them. They run very small. I sized up to a 9, and I wear 8 or 8.5 in booties. They are comfortable, and for the price, you can’t beat them.

Finally, I have all the heart eyes emojis for this bag! My only complaint is that it zips and doesn’t just have an easy magnetic closure, but otherwise, it is divine. I’ve been a fan of R Minkoff bags for years but somehow the leather on this one is even softer and more supple than most of her other bags I’ve had. I looove this moss color for fall, and the gold studded handle is so chic.

#7. I love a pair of deep burgundy jeans in the fall and winter, and there are a few pairs that are part of the #NSale this year that are really good. (Pardon my dirty mirror; it really shows on the black sweater!)

tie front sweater // jeans (tall girl alternative) // booties // earrings // necklace

I was drawn to this tie front sweater the second I saw it in the Anniversary Sale catalog, and I still think it’s really cute, but I have to say, it is rather scratchy. If that bothers you, you may want to pass, but it’s not scratchy enough to be a deal breaker for me. For size reference, I’m wearing a small. I tried the medium in the store and I felt like it was bigger than I wanted, but I’d say it depends on the kind of fit you want.

I really wanted to love these booties, but I don’t think I’m going to keep them. Maybe I’d like the taupe suede or cognac leather better, but these look really long on my feet, and they have a higher shaft so they interfere with the hem of my ankle jeans. They’re by Kork-Ease, so they are really comfortable and even have arch support, so if you’re looking for that, you should try them.

This necklace is Stella & Dot. I threw it on because I felt like the sweater needed a pendant and my Kendra Scott pendant is still en route. I love it but it is heavier than I anticipated, so sometimes it settles between the hills, if you get my drift. It works okay on this chunky sweater though.

#8. Here you can see the same outfit with ballet flats instead. I like it much better this way!

tie front sweater // jeans (tall girl alternative) // ballet flats // earrings // necklace

I’m undecided on these Tory Burch ballet flats. I LOVE the look of them, but at this price I expected them to be more comfortable. That said, I think ballet flats look really great with these jeans. It is something about the way the jeans taper and the length, but it works out perfectly — much better than with the ankle boots.

#9. This outfit is from the dressing room, but I wanted to show you because it features a great pair of boots and my favorite under $100 pair of jeans in the #NSale.

lattice back sweater // high rise jeans // suede boots

I loved this sweater the second I put it on, but my bra showed in the back so that was a deal breaker for me. If that’s not an issue for you, go for it. It is super cute on, and the price is great. It’s not super soft or anything, but it isn’t scratchy either, and it’s thick enough to not be see-through.

I think these jeans are the best deal after the AG legging ankle jeans. They have a higher rise, which some of you might prefer, they’re stretchy, and they fit great. The rear pockets are small and placement is flattering.

Finally, I love these boots. I immediately honed in on them when I started browsing the shoe department in store the first day of the sale, and I can’t wait to start wearing them. They’re the perfect caramel color with a great minimalistic style, and they’re extremely comfortable. That cylindrical heel is the icing on the cake. I have these here at home so if I have time, I’ll update this post with a side view today. For size reference, I sized down a half size to an 8. They seem to run big.

#10. Here’s a look you can wear now and then swap out the shorts and sandals for jeans and booties when it gets colder. I wore this last week to the nail salon for a mani/pedi.

long cardigan // t-shirt // sandals // tote

This long cardigan is definitely a keeper. It’s thin and very soft and flattering. For size reference, I have the small.

I was immediately drawn to this tee when I saw it in the store on the #NSale preview day, but now that every blogger in the blogosphere has featured it, I’m kind of over it. LOL! I’m sure I’ll still wear it, but it is kind of funny how often if pops up in my Instagram feed. For size reference, I’m wearing the medium, and I wouldn’t want it any smaller.

My sandals and tote are not part of the #NSale, but they are both tried and true favorites that I wear/carry 4 or 5 days a week.

#11. Finally, this is a simple outfit that I will play around with more come fall, but the piece de resistance is the cardigan.

3/4 sleeve cardigan // similar cami // jeans (high rise alternative) // pendant // flats

This is probably my favorite cardigan in the entire sale. It is super thin and lightweight, and it has 3/4 sleeves so it’s definitely best for early fall or areas with mild winters, but it’s really cute and flattering and so super soft. It is one size fits 4-16, so it’s amazing that it isn’t more voluminous, but it drapes nicely and really works. The fact that it is one size (and cashmere, of course) makes it a nice idea for gift giving as well.

I plan to try this outfit with the merlot jeans or the jeans pictured here and my burgundy suede ballet flats or leopard flats. There are a lot of possibilities with this color sweater!

So that’s all I’ve got! I hope this was helpful. Definitely refer to the rest of my Anniversary Sale coverage for my other top picks and more outfit ideas.

And it’s Friday, so that means linkup day! If you have a fashion blog, I’d love for you to join us. If you’re here for your weekly dose of style inspiration, you’ll find plenty of that here. Have a beautiful weekend!

  1. I woke up at 3:20 and shopped my 2 items. Thanks for suggesting putting things in the wishlist to make it easier!

  2. Love love love those booties. So chic. That tie front sweater is fancy as well.

I feel the pain about being between two sizes. But aren’t we all if we shop with different brands? I found that sizes, especially in pants, can vary a lot from one shop to the other.

    Have a great weekend!

  3. Thank you sooo much for all of your anniversary sale posts!! They are extremely helpful for me as you and I are the same height, weight, and body type. LOL!!! I set my alarm to shop at 3am but found there was not much in the way of restocking. Did you size down in the merlot 7FMK jeans? I ordered them in 29 and they seem a bit big. Happy Friday!!

  4. I never would have thought to try a one size cardigan because I am on the petite side, but seeing how gorgeous the halogen looks on you, I am giving it a try! Thanks for all the great Nordstrom sale posts. I picked up a few pieces thanks to your suggestions !

  5. I set my alarm too! I was hoping to grab another pair of pants and a smaller size in the Dreamers cardigan that were both sold out. I honestly didn’t see much of anything restocked -maybe random sizes, but that’s typical. I’ve been obsessively stalking those two items!
I LOVE how cozy that Dreamers sweater is, by the way. I bought two Barefoot Dreams in different styles and they are close in coziness. The BD is velvety soft, though, and does seem more durable and structured. I’m keeping the Dreamers and returning the hooded BD I believe, since they are similar colors (that and it kind gives off a bathrobe vibe, haha). I actually love every single cardigan I ordered so I’m in trouble! ????

  6. I’m pretty disappointed in the restocks, too. I was hoping some of the booties would get restocked but they really only have very random tiny and large sizes in several of the ones I’ve been eyeing. Sigh.

Thanks for all your terrific sale coverage though! It’s been very helpful to have you narrowing the selections down!

  7. So far I can’t get the items I’m wishing for, will wait to see if they come up. I want the scarf you picked but its only available in pastels. I have a stupid question, I can’t figure out how to pin a picture to my Pinterest board. I click on it , PIN pops up, I click, then it goes to Pinterest, then what?

  8. So many cute things! I am sooooooooooooooooooooooo disappointed at the lack of available items in the online sale. EVERY item that I had on my wishlist is not available!!!! BOO!

  9. Happy Friday! I ordered the Sam Edelman Camellia tall boots yesterday and went around and around on which color to get. I haven’t seen them in person but wound up getting the Asphalt b/c I thought they were really pretty. Black wasn’t an option b/c I already have black tall boots. I saw you featured the Caramel today and I’m wondering if I made a mistake. What do you think of the Asphalt and do you have any suggestions of what to wear with that color? Thanks!

    1. The Asphalt are gorgeous too! I already have grey suede knee-high boots (from last year’s #NSale, lol) so I went with the caramel, but either are fantastic colors that will go with so much.

      1. Thank you! I actually thought they were more of a brown color but when you mentioned grey suede I went back on the site and see that they are a dark grey…looks like more of a grayish brown possibly but nevertheless I think I will really like them even more if they are grey. I sure hope they fit well because I have skinny calves. That is my “issue” with tall boots. I’m 5’7″ and long legs so I love tall boots but my calves are 13″ so most gap a lot! 14″ is about the smallest you see. You can find wide calf boots EVERYWHERE but almost never narrow calf. Not sure how many women have this problem but that could be a blog post suggestion- Narrow calve boots. I would LOVE it!. Not sure if I’m using the calf vs. calve vs. calfs vs. calves right – oh well, LOL. 😉

  10. You shared some great looks! I have written down the brand of the black booties. Like you, the black doesn’t excite me, so I hope to find them in another color.

    Have a great Friday!

  11. Some great outfits- thank u! Yes disappointed w stock, I am a cardholder and ordered one of the cardigans on the first day of the sale and they just sent me an email saying they couldn’t fill the ordered and just canceled it ????

  12. Hi, I love your post and agree that their restock efforts are disappointing.Last week I ordered the Halogen giraffe print shoes and a cardigan. The USPS did a stellar job of losing that package (grrrrr) Nordstrom was able to resend the cardigan but the shoes are sold out. I woke up last night with high hopes but alas it looks like I’ll miss out on this show 2 years in a row.

  13. Wow! Such a great post and great coverage for the entire #NSale! Did you notice how things in burgundy seemed to fly off the shelf? Really such a great sale this year, but still hoping for some restocks on a few things! I think your earrings and that black sweater look fantastic on you!

  14. So the one main item I wanted from this year’s sale was the long Halogen cardigan in the burgundy color (it’s something different from sweaters I already have & a great fall color). I missed it on the first day of the early access sale and again this morning (I actually went online at 5:00 am) it was sold out and unavailable. How can that be??!! Don’t they plan ahead for items that are predicted to be popular?
I’m disappointed in the nsale this year; the couple items I did order (shoes) arrived yesterday and neither one is a keeper; going to return. I ordered those black/white lace up flats and they look and feel really cheaply made and not comfortable at all & the gold TB flats feel like they are not of equal quality to their other shoes, In fact wearing them around the house for an hour was so uncomfortable I can’t imagine wearing them around town or at work all day. It makes me want to shop somewhere else for awhile. Ugh! I feel like I’ve been duped. ????

NOT your fault, JoLynne! I’m venting my frustration at Nordstrom not you. THANK you for putting together such comprehensive lists for your readers and sharing your favorites. the items you bought look great on you. And I’ve seen TONS of other bloggers wearing that halogen cardigan so maybe all the fashion peeps snapped them up before the regular shoppers could get their hands on them.

Oh well, I guess I’ll save my money this year! ????

    1. Like I said to Kathy, I think the fashion blogs have changed created a frenzy and a demand that they just can’t keep up with. It’s a shame because I don’t think it used to be this way.

I also feel like some brands are making inferior products just to sell in the sale… the TB flats are a perfect example. I’m kind of bummed about it.

  15. I’m disappointed how the NSale has changed. It didn’t use to be where you couldn’t get the items you wanted. Everything sure went fast. I think they do this on purpose to get people to get their debit or credit card. Anyway, I’m into summer right now and its hard to look at Fall clothes. Maybe Nordstrom will get enough complaints they will restock more for those who don’t have early access. You really did a great job on sharing your picks and suggestions and look cute in your outfit choices. You are set. 🙂 I wonder if with the fashion blogging, it has gotten more infor. out there for Nordstrom on their Nsale and therefore the sell outs? Good job on your post as usual.

    1. I do feel like the fashion blogs have changed it all and they just can’t keep up with the demand. It’s sad and a real shame because I don’t think it used to be this way.

  16. Cute outfits! I bought this top from Nordstrom’s that you’ve featured. It’s the Astride Pinstriped Pullover. I wanted it for a trip in August to the San Francisco area, where it’s usually chilly, even in summer. I ordered a medium (I usually wear small or med.), and it’s roomy but that’s what I wanted in this style. I’m really happy with it. I think it will be cute with jeans this fall, too.

  17. These cardigans are beautiful as well as the boots and other items! I love this post! But I realize I can get a lot o these looks at other stores that do have them in stock. I love your post it was a great help!

  18. Great post and you got some cute stuff this year. I was a bit disappointed in the selection and thought last year was so much better which is strange b/c the hype was incredible this year. I’m also disappointed that items aren’t being re-stocked as timely as last year. I’ve had to tell some readers and friends “just keep checking” and I was so surprised some items were not restocked by today. Anyway, great post as always! Really love the preforated booties.

Never thought to hit Refresh to see what’s changed!

  20. What size are you wearing in Caslon t-shirt, BP long cardigan , BP long sleeve pocket tee, Dreamers rib knit cardi, Leith easy circle cardi, & Nike no show socks..

    1. I wear small in the Caslon tee, and I always order medium in BP. stuff b/c they are juniors. The Leigh circle cardi is a small and so is the Dreamers. I think the socks are medium.
