Fall Outfit Inspiration: Denim Skirt + Riding Boots

Fall Outfit Inspiration: Denim Skirt + Riding Boots | Fashion for Women Over 40 | Everyday Fashion
I know I keep saying this, but we are having the most gorgeous fall weather this year. It’s absolute perfection. The mornings are cool, but most days warm up into the 60s. This week we’ve even had some 70-degree weather. There hasn’t been much rain, so the leaves are taking their time changing colors, and it looks like a postcard wherever I go. Even as I sit here typing this post, I can hear a gaggle of geese flying above our house while a cool, dry breeze wafts through the open window. It’s almost magical.

I wore this outfit to church a few weeks ago. I bought this jean skirt in the summertime, and now that I’m transitioning my wardrobe to fall, I realized that it’s the perfect thing to pair with my brown riding boots. Yay for versatile wardrobe pieces!!

The ivory cashmere cowl neck sweater is several years old. It is shorter than current trends, which works well with skirts.

I accessorized with gold because it’s so pretty with the warm tones in the brown boots and ivory sweater. I started with the split ring. I’m obsessed with this thing. I wear it every chance I get, and I like how the jade green and vintage gold play off the ivory sweater. To that I added the ivory and gold enamel bangle and the spikey cluster bracelet. I felt like the sweater needed something to jazz up the front so I wore my chevron necklace.

I added gold hoops, and I grabbed a light brown crossbody bag for pictures, although I actually carried my snakeskin tote to church.

We’ve discussed the boots a gagillion times. They’re such a classic, but what I really like about them is how they hug my calves. No one wants gaping boots when you wear a skirt. It occurred to me later that I should have worn my ivory boot socks. That would have been super cute. Oh well, next time!!

I love this outfit for church or for lunch out with girlfriends, or if I was still teaching school, I think it would be perfect for that too.

  1. What a chic Fall look. Love the denim skirt with the brown boots and all your jewelry is pretty.

Thanks for the linkup and enjoy the weekend! 🙂 Ada.

  2. well considering my adoration for all things distressed, I of course love this skirt and how you have styled it!
I think I need a distressed jeanskirt now.

  3. You look great! I’m always looking for shorter sweaters. If tops are long enough to cover my hips at all I have to go up a size, and then they look too big through the torso. It’s so hard right now!

    1. Ha, right after I commented a sponsored post for Land’s End popped up with the model wearing an ivory cardigan, denim skirt, and brown boots!

  4. Love the outfit! I need to find me a denim skirt because of its versatility. I wish the highs here in GA were only in the 60’s, but I know that’s coming. I have our windows open and the furnace off, so we can enjoy the natural air conditioning, get all of the outside smells, and enjoy the beauty of Fall. Have a blessed day and weekend!

  5. So funny! I JUST went to a Silpada party last night and ordered this necklace! Must’ve been the right choice! I think it’s going to be very versatile. LOVE how it looks with your outfit!

  6. Very comfortable outfit! Love the length of the jean skirt, and you pulled it off nicely with the boots! Cozy and warm turtleneck for a perfect fall day!

  7. Very cute. 🙂 I like my denim skirt as a transition piece. I’ve been wearing it with sweater tights & my cowboy boots as it gets colder.

  8. Great look Jo-Lynne. I just styled a denim skirt too, but I think I love this one more. It has an edgy young look to it!
Adore it with the riding boots.

  9. How often do you purge your clothing pieces? You have so many pieces of clothing.  Anytime I do a search for wardrobe ideas you come up in a new outfit! 🙂 I add 1 or 2 pieces a year!! And every few years I update my core pieces. I just don’t have room for much but I do want to look more pulled together.

Love your style.  Easy, Mom appropriate, casual but neat.

    1. Hey Melissa. I will be doing a closet reveal later this week or next, but I don’t have as many clothes as it may appear. ☺️ I cycle through a lot more clothing than the average person because the blog is my job, and people like to see current items as much as possible.

I return some things — like those try-on sessions I do, I don’t keep all of that. I do that as a service to you all, to help you weed through everything out there and find the good stuff. And even the stuff you see on the blog, some of it I only wear long enough for the photo shoot. Other things that I keep, I may only keep for the season, and when it sells out, I can no longer link to it, so I donate it or sell it.

Also, I work with brands, and sometimes they send me clothing to facilitate their sponsored posts. I have a separate clothing rack in my room where I keep the clothes that are for the blog, and I try to keep my personal closet highly edited so I don’t have so much that it’s overwhelming. I mix in my own things with new things I purchase to feature on the blog, so you see a mix here and on Instagram. I know it seems excessive, but it’s part of the job, so I just try to be as responsible as I can. I hope that helps clear things up! 🙂
