Daily Mom Style 11.21.12

Thanks for all your encouragement last week about these Daily Mom Style posts. I can’t help but feel a little self-absorbed posting what I’m wearing every day, but I have to say I have learned A LOT about my personal style and what works and what doesn’t from seeing these photos. Even if you don’t post them anywhere, I highly recommend taking some photos of your outfits to see what you really look like. It’s incredibly enlightening!

As for this week, here’s what I’ve got. But first. Are you a LOFT shopper? Because today through Friday, you can get 40% off ENTIRE purchase with the code: ENJOY. How ’bout THEM apples!?

Okay, here we go!

day 1

I wore this to a Mary Kay party. I usually wear this sweater with jeans and I think I’ve worn it with black cords before, but when I was pulling it out of my closet, these gray cords (old; they are Paiges from Bloomies) were hanging below it and I got inspired. I love the combination of warm and cool neutrals.

I do think it would have looked better with black or dark brown boots, though. I can’t wait to wear it again and try it with my black Danskos. Not only would the color contrast be more pleasant, I think the outfits needs some height, the way the sweater dips down in the back throws off the proportion. See, I’m learning!!!

day 2

I wore this outfit to a press event at Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children. I wanted to be professional yet casual, and I couldn’t decide whether to wear the necklace (Studio Jewel) or the scarf (LOFT). I try so hard to like scarves, but they make me feel all choky. Tell me which way you think looks best!

The cognac boots with the green jeans was a sudden inspiration when I was pulling things out of my closet. I like the 3-way contrast of the black, green and rust. The black dolman sleeved sweater is from Nordstrom Rack.

day 3

These photos crack me up. That silly dog will not leave me alone when I’m taking pictures. I wore this outfit to parent visitation day at our elementary school. I have been wanting to wear this striped cardi that I picked up at the J.Crew outlet and wasn’t sure what to pair it with. It has a gray stripe in it so I wore it over a gray tank, and then I pulled out these black cords for the first time this season.

The cardi is really comfy; it’s made out of t-shirt material. I got several compliments on it, but looking at these photos, I can’t help but think that it’s not terribly flattering. I think I’d like it better with jeans and my gray Uggs — I think it’s too casual for the black jeans and ballet flats. The necklace, by the way, is Stella & Dot.

day 4

I wore this on Saturday to take my daughter to gymnastics and run errands. I love this red cashmere zip-up hoodie, a Christmas gift from my mom a few years back. I think she got it at Nordstrom. I just wore it over a gray tank with casual straight leg jeans (old, old, old!) and my black suede mocs (from Aldo several years ago).

And please remind me never to take my photos in direct sunlight again, GACK!!!!

day 5

I wore this to church on Sunday. This is one of those outfits I don’t wear a lot because it feels so fussy, but I love these photos! The poncho is from LOFT and the red jeans are DL1961 Emma Leggings that I love. (The green ones above are also the Emma Legging, but the color (mermaid) is hard to find.)

The Dansko Brinkley boots were sent to me for review a few years ago and are no longer available, which is a shame b/c I absolutely adore them. They are the perfect blend of dressy and casual and they are incredibly comfy to boot! (Pun totally intended! I crack myself up.) The bag is from Hobo Int’l, I picked it up on a great sale at a local boutique. Even though I love colorful bags, I find myself going for this black bag all winter long because it’s just so easy to carry (love the padded handle) and the glossy leather wears well.

day 6

Sheesh, I didn’t realize I took so many pictures this week! This one is from Monday; I had to take my daughter to a doctor appointment and I threw this on because I was cold and it seemed cozy. The teal long-sleeved tee is from LOFT, and I love the detailing on the neckline. It adds just enough interest to take it from a plain tee to a cute top. The black hooded cardi is from Nordstrom a few years ago, and the tan cords are Joe’s. I picked them up at a Bloomies winter sale — the same time I got the gray ones and black ones shown above. Yeah, I went a little crazy, but it was a good sale, what can I say!? I think it was after Christmas two years ago so I’m definitely getting my money’s worth.

That night we went out to dinner with some of my husband’s co-workers, and I changed into my dark skinny jeans and this gray cowl neck sweater from Banana Republic, another oldie but goodie. I’ve had this sweater for YEARS. I kept it simple and wore my black boots, and then I grabbed my red envelope clutch — this is the one that I got at the J.Crew Outlet at my Tanger Outlet shopping spree, and I hadn’t had an occasion to carry it till this week.

Ugh, these nighttime photos are so not flattering!

So I noticed that the neckline looked a little bare, despite the cowl, so I threw on this necklace from Studio Jewel to fill in. I think it works.

Yes, I totally airbrushed my face with PicMonkey. Closeups… ugh!

So seriously, y’all. That’s a lot of outfits! I think I got out of my yoga pants every day this week. GO ME!

Also, just by way of a heads-up, I’ll be doing a round up of Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales and deals this weekend so make sure to check in if you’re planning to do some shopping!

  1. Actually, Day 3 is by far my favorite outfit. You look stunning! It really was the perfect combo of casual and refined. Now I’m wishing I had bought that cardi.

  2. I really like the scarf with the outfit. I think it looks fresh and a little different, for you especially. I love a cowl neck sweater–always so flattering. Lots of color in your outfits–fun!

  3. You looked fabulous this week! I really liked days 1, 2 and 3 – those jewel tones were so flattering on you! Being petite, I can’t pull off the tops that dip in the back. I can’t even wear the waterfall cardigans. /sadface

    1. Thanks! Ya know, I don’t love the way that sweater dips, I feel that at 5’5″ I am almost too short to carry it off… thus, the heels comment. I think I’ll wear it with heels from now on. And I should wear jewel tones more often. I know this, but I still gravitate to neutrals. I guess it feels more comfortable to me. I don’t like to stand out, lol.

  4. I feel the same way about scarves. Like the look on others, but not on me because I look like I’m being choked as well as feeling like it, too. I prefer the outfit with the necklace, although the scarf looks nice on you. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

    1. Yeah, while I like having more color in the outfit, I Just feel like it looks cleaner and maybe thinner with the necklace? I have a short neck, so i think I look best with open necklines. Anyway…. I guess it’s nice to have both options! 🙂

happy turkey day to you too!

  5. You look just beautiful! I love that you are doing this! My personal opinion is that you look fabulous in the black boots. Somehow, your hair matching the boots completes the whole picture and makes you look really put together. The brown boots are cute in themselves, but say “that outfit looks great”….black boots say “wow YOU look great!” (just my thoughts…what do you think?)
