Christmas Tree Farm Outfit

The perfect Christmas Tree Farm Outfit -- cream cable turtleneck, red down vest, skinny jeans and Hunter boots with a plaid scarf and knit pompom beanie!

It’s our family tradition to go cut down our Christmas tree at a local tree farm every year, but this year it hasn’t quite worked out yet. The kids are still hoping we can fit it in, but I’m beginning to think we might need to be content with one tree this year. The live tree would be our second tree because I also set up a faux tree in the front living room that I call my fancy tree. I decorate it in gold and silver and crystal. It’s pretty and elegant, but it’s not our family tree.

The live tree we cut every year goes in the family room and is decorated with our family ornaments — the ones from Paul’s and my childhoods, the ones our kids made in school, mementos from our vacations, and a collection of painted wooden ornaments Paul’s father used to make for all the family members every year. I do love that tree, and I miss having it in our family room this year, so hopefully we can find time to visit our favorite tree farm this weekend. If we do, I’ll probably wear this outfit or a variation of it.

I actually wore this outfit last weekend to a nearby walking trail to get family pictures for our Christmas cards, but it occurred to me that it’s also the perfect Christmas tree farm outfit.

Rain boots are perfect for the tree farm because it can be messy, and these Hunter boots are virtually indestructible. If they get muddy and dirty, I can just hose them off.

I normally wear a coat when I’m outside in the winter, but so far this year, our weather has been mild, and I was comfortable in a wool turtleneck and down vest.

This sweater is from J.Crew last year. They usually keep some version of it in stock, but it seems to be selling out so I’m not sure what’s up with that. I love these sweaters. They’re the perfect weight and length, and I really hope they restock. This cable turtleneck is another option (it has the same fit as mine) and I also like this Madewell cable knit sweater a lot.

The red vest is also J.Crew, and I’ve sung its praises many times. I love the way it fits so much that I have it in black as well. It runs big, so I sized down to a small. Same goes for the turtleneck sweater, by the way. J.Crew tops seem to run big in general, although their pants and jeans fit TTS.

SALE ALERT >> Everything at J.Crew is 30% off (40% off on orders of $200+) with the code PRESENTS.

I wore my favorite skinnies and finished off the casual outdoor look with a plaid infinity scarf and pompom beanie.

This infinity scarf is less than $10 right now, and it comes in 3 color combos. It would make a fantastic gift for just about any woman on your list. It’s so cute and easy to wear. I love how it’s heavier like a blanket scarf, but it has the ease of an infinity scarf.

  1. This is so so cute! Love it! Savannah is looking awfully festive too 😉
I got my Hunters in last week! I ordered a kids and an adult pair to compare, and surprisingly, they both fit. I’m just trying to decide if I can live with the reflectors on the back of the kids, haha. I got them for $60, so I may just suck it up and deal 😉

  2. Jo-Lynne, You and your pup look great! The colors in the scarf make your face glow! I’d live to find a pair of Hunter rain boots marked way down.

    Make it a great day!

    1. Okay, I’m budding in on this comment as I loved, loved, loved the adorable puppy too! I have a toy poodle and my mom has a Shih-Tzu, Savannah looks like a Shih-poo…google them, too cute and great dogs!

Also, love the outfit 🙂 wishing you peace and joy this Christmas & the new year!

      1. Oh my goodness, you are RIGHT!!!! I just googled, and that is the closest I’ve seen to a “breed” that looks like her. We’ve always wondered exactly what kind of dog she is. (And who on EARTH would abandon such a cutie.) Breaks my heart. She was found on the streets of Philadelphia and was taken to a kill shelter. The rescue we got her from (my neighbor, actually) was there to pick up another dog and saw her and snatched her up. I’m so thankful. ????

  3. It’s me karen again , don’t know why when I posted that it said comment waiting moderation. I didn’t write
I don’t want you to think I was being impatient ????????

  4. Super cute outfit!! I love how you can rock vests. I feel like we have a similar body shape (athletic, I guess?) but whenever I try on vests they make me feel like I’ve visually added 20 pounds. Not so for you, though!! (I may have a self-perception problem haha!!)

    1. You know what, it is THIS vest. I have never been able to wear them either, for that reason, and this one works. I have it in 2 colors and I’m tempted to buy a 3rd. That bright green is calling me. 🙂

  5. Thanks so much for the puffy vest info! Just what my new DIL has been wanting. One more gift checked off the list. Yay!

  6. I love the bright color of the vest with the light sweater, that looks awesome!! And love love that infinity scarf and beanie. Yay for rescues, I have a tuxedo kitty. Thanks for posting the dog, sweet addition to your post !

  7. I love that outfit (and the adorable pup!) Just wondering what size you went with in the Hunters…..your normal shoe size or did you size down? Thanks!
