Winter Fashion: All Black Outfit

black-poncho-2

I love wearing black. It can be a copout, but it can also be very flattering, and in the case of an all-black outfit, downright stunning if it’s done right. I’m not sure this is done right, but it’s my meager attempt! Haha. Actually, I really love how this outfit turned out.

I’ve had this poncho for months. I bought it back in August on the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. As a result, it is no longer available, but I’ll link to some other options below. I honestly don’t know why I waited so long to wear it. The fabric is high quality, and it has a fabulous drape to it. Because it is black with grey trim, I was unsure how to style it. I know I could wear it with anything from jewel tones to pastels, but I feel safest wearing it with black. In the end, the “safe” choice became a striking outfit.

I actually wore the poncho to lunch with a friend with a grey leopard-print tee underneath. Here’s a selfie I took that day.

It worked, but for some reason, I really like it best with the black.

I accessorized with silver. My Silpada Half Moon Earrings always make a great statement, and I added my Stella & Dot Rebel Ring for another bold piece.

The ripped jeans give the outfit an edgy vibe, and I carried my Moto Hobo and wore black ankle boots (sold out; similar items linked below.)

  1. Love this! I could wear all black every day! I often do wear black. 🙂 I had my outfit planed for today’s shopping trip, but you may have just changed my mind. I have ripped black skinny jeans, a black poncho I’ve never worn, black ankle boots, and black long sleeve tee’s. Hmmm……

  2. You’re so right, an all black outfit can be stunning. I’ve seen them when they don’t really work and just seem like a failed attempt to match blacks. This is gorgeous though. From the outfit to the bag and earrings, it’s just perfect. Love the other poncho options you included too. Thanks!

  3. I love the grey trim and the drape of your poncho. Just perfect! I really like it with the grey leopard t-shirt also.

  4. I too like all black, Jo-Lynne, but I really liked the grey leopard print top under the poncho because it makes the grey trim pop. Question: When wearing black pointe pants or leggings with black ankle boots, if there is a bit of space between where your bottoms end and the top of the boogie comes too, what is best, wear black knee high stockings or footies show that a little skin shows? Thanks! I struggle with that a lot!

Well, in GA the cooler temps are moving out, lots of rain and warm temps are moving in. We could break a record for the high temp Christmas Eve and Christmas Day of 75. We just have to ensure we have Christmas in our hearts since it won’t feel like it outside.

    Have a blessed day!

    1. Hey Ginger. I wear thin black socks so if any leg shows, it is all monochromatic. The “rule” about letting some skin show with ankle boots works best when the jeans and boots aren’t the same color. Or if they are both light. When it’s cold, and you’re wearing black pants and black boots, I think it’s best to have on black socks. UNLESS I was being very intentional and rolling the jeans with the intention of having some separation. I hope that helps! 🙂

  5. Stunning. So cool! Good info with regards to the ankle boot/Jean gap. I also struggle with that, had never heard about the different colours but it makes perfect sense when I think about it.

  6. All black looks great on you, and the details of your outfit make it edgy instead of boring as sometimes all black can be. I look too pale in black, so I need something with a little color. 🙂

  7. Very cute. I love black!
I like the poncho with the leopard tee. It would be cute with the tee, and some dark bootcut jeans just for a different look.
