Winter Pastels Two Ways

Hello, friends! Welcome back to 25 Days of Winter Fashion. Today I’m styling winter pastels. I tend to gravitate to darker colors, especially at this time of year, but pastels are a great way to add variety to your winter wardrobe.

This side slit cowl neck tunic comes in a ton of colors, but I was particularly drawn to the Pink Fawn. This is one of the only colors that has a pattern to it. Most are solids. I love the loose cowl neck, and the material is a nice quality mid-weight knit that holds it shape and doesn’t “grow” as you wear it. It’s cozy and not scratchy at all. The vertical line down the front and back is elongating, and it’s definitely long enough to wear with leggings, although I wore it with white jeans.

Here’s a view of the back. It isn’t clingy, but it’s not voluminous either. For a tunic, it’s fairly flattering. Although it doesn’t exactly create curves, it has a long, slender shape. Definitely size down. I’m wearing the small, and as you can see, it is plenty roomy.

I paired this sweater with my white skinnies and grey over the knee boots for a dressier look, but I’m also showing how it looks with booties down below.

I purchased these boots during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale last July, so naturally they are selling out now. There are a few sizes left, and they also come in black and a gorgeous Bordeaux. I have been waiting anxiously to wear them. They’re by Halogen, and I’m impressed with the quality at this price point. They are genuine suede, not a sueded textile material like some. They fit the calf nicely, and the slit in the back makes them easy to walk in and sit in. These are similar, if you’re in the market for grey suede OTK boots.

I carried a grey leather bag because I wanted something that blends into the overall color scheme. I hate to keep showing a bag that is sold out, but I do carry this a lot. It’s such a great color and goes with so much. Some bags I love in a similar color are this Kate Spade in Porcini, this Tory in French Grey (on sale!), and I actually just ordered this R Minkoff in Graphite to have a darker grey bag for winter and also to have something to feature with my outfits on the blog that is still available. For a lower price point, this one at Target is cute, and I’m kind of jonesing for this Sole Society backpack.

My nail polish, by the way, is CND Field Fox, and I love it for a winter neutral.

I know that not everyone is into the OTK boot trend, so I wanted to show the outfit with booties as well. These booties are sold out, but any taupe bootie would work with this outfit. I love these in the grey leather, and they’re only $99.

My white jeans are ankle length, and I cuffed them in a single cuff so they just hit the top of the booties. A smaller double cuff would also work, in fact, I think I might have liked that better. It’s just a matter of preference. Wearing the booties a light color is the key to keeping a long, lean leg line with the white jeans. A darker color (like the OTK boots) would work, but they would make my legs look shorter, especially since this sweater is so long. The higher heel also helps keep the proper proportion and keep the look balanced.

Here’s one final look at the original outfit. I actually think I’d like it better if the boots were a lighter shade, but this is what I have, and they work. A mushroom color would be ideal. I also like these for a lower heel.

  1. I just bought a blush pink sweater recently…I think it’s a great option for the colder months—otherwise I get so tired of all the dark neutrals!
I think you’ve shown 2 fabulous ways how this could work with different footwear. And since I have both options–i’ll have to copy them both!!

  2. Hi thought I would finally leave a comment. I live in a very small town in Ontario Canada only a 6 hour drive to Nordstroms! Lol however every day I look forward to your blog and have been able to find similar items at our nearest mall about one hour away. Your style is very similar to mine and suits my lifestyle. Having said all that I do love where I live in a big old house in the country ????

    1. There is definitely something to be said for country living! 🙂 I grew up in a small town, and there wasn’t a Nordstrom within 6 hours of me either. Of course, we didn’t have mail order back then. Thank goodness for the Internet! 🙂

  3. Nice color change up for fall. I loved the look with the OTK boots, but when I saw the picture with the booties, that became my favorite! Your legs always look so long in everything you wear. Keep the “looks” coming!

  4. Jo-Lynne, That top is so pretty and looks so comfy. You mentioned that because it’s roomy, you sized down. It looks as though that did not make it fit snug over ‘the girls.’ I hate when my tops pull or wrinkle in that area. My two cents worth is go to watch your son play in the band Thanksgiving morning. He only has one more year to do that then he will be off at college. There will be many more turkey trots for you to participate in.

    Have a blessed day!

    1. No, the sweater doesn’t pull at all. 🙂 I hear ya on Thanksgiving… we usually feel by this time of year, we’ve seen the show so many times, we can skip it. But it might be a fun way to spend Thanksgiving morning if the weather is nice. If it’s cold, I’d rather run than sit on metal bleachers, ha!

  5. This is so pretty on you! Both looks are gorgeous, but I’m partial to the otk boots one, I think. I actually had to replace pretty much all my sweaters this year, and I did snag this one in burgundy. It was waaay more than I ever typically pay for any kind of top, but I just cannot part with it! It’s easily my favorite sweater purchase this year.

  6. Love the tunic! Thanks for styling it with the booties – I could totally see myself wearing something like this. Now I just need to find some white jeans!

  7. Beautiful color combination. I think these colors are great for fall and aren’t the boots fantastic! Hope top see you tomorrow on my fancy Friday link up!

  8. I am loving this outfit… I have similar pieces… I’m heading to my closet now 🙂 to see if I can pull it off 🙂 … I do have to say… your hair is looking amazing lately..have you been using new products, styling it different… please do tell!!! Blessings

  9. Hi! My name is KIM Weiler and for some reason I am not receiving your (or Cindy) emails anymore!!! I always look forward to them and was wondering if you know why? Thanks in advance and have a nice weekend:)
