Easy Weekend Style with Nordstrom

Weekend Style: This is a great weekend look for running errands and taking the kids to their sports events.

I mentioned a while back that I’m partnering up with Nordstrom twice this month to style an athleisure look. I’m such a huge fan of the Zella activewear line at Nordstrom because the quality is fantastic, and the styles are flattering and on trend. A few weeks ago, I styled their plank pants and a cozy Etoile pullover sweatshirt for a fun athleisure-at-home look. If you missed that post, you can see it here.

Today I’m wearing their Into Balance Jacket with my favorite skinny jeans and Adidas Superstars.

I’ve been loving this look lately because it’s so comfortable and easy to throw on, but I still feel cute and put-together. Here’s a similar outfit I wore last week.

Maybe Cyndi and I should have included this in our series on casual outfit formulas. It can be #6: jeans + sweatshirt + fashion sneakers. Tada!!

I probably wear these jeans 4 days a week. They’re so comfortable, and I definitely feel like they’re more flattering than yoga pants or leggings. Any of the AG Ankle Legging Jeans are going to look and feel fantastic. Yes, they’re super pricey, but they do go on sale from time to time; that’s when I get mine. And of course you can wear this outfit with whatever jeans you have in your closet. Also feel free to change it up for a straight leg or bootcut jean if that’s a better fit for your body type.

Personally, I love a legging jean with this look, especially if the sweatshirt is bulky at all. Here are some similar styles for less.

If you are going to wear a bootcut, at least make sure they’re fitted in your thighs because baggy jeans + bulky sweatshirt = extra visual weight, and no one wants that!

I’m wearing my Superstars again. I love how the black stripes coordinate with the black sweatshirt and keep the shoes from being so blindingly white. These shoes are very comfortable, but they’re a bit stiff and require some breaking in. Also, you’re going to want to size down. Mine are size 8, and I wear 8.5 in boots and a 9 in running sneakers.

People always ask about my socks. I wore these, and they were perfect. They didn’t slide off my heel, but they didn’t show either.

I fell in love with this Zella jacket the moment I saw it on the Nordstrom website. I’ve been wearing it with jeans about once a week, and I also wear it over my workout clothes to the gym, so it’s getting a lot of use! They call it a jacket, but I wear it indoors like a sweatshirt.

It’s thick and cozy, and I love the cropped silhouette and the asymmetrical zipper. The neckline is super cute too. I usually wear it open like this, but you can button it up if you want the extra warmth. For size reference, I’m wearing a medium. I wear a tee or tank underneath so when it rides up, I’m not giving everyone a muffin-top show (haha!) and also for warmth.

For size reference, I’m wearing a medium. I always buy medium in Zella tops and sweatshirts, and I this fits comfortably, but I do wonder if I should have tried a small because you can see some added bulk around the midsection, and I find myself pulling it down a lot. I feel like the small would probably be too short, though. All that to say, I think it runs true to size, but if you’re in doubt, you may want to size down or order both and return the one you don’t like as much.

There are lots of other cute sweatshirts and jackets in Nordstrom’s activewear section. I’ll link up a few of my favorites below.

When I do a look like this for daily wear, I always add jewelry. That’s what elevates this from a bumming-around-the-house outfit to something I feel good wearing out and about. Granted, I’m not going to wear this to church on Sunday or anything, but it’s a great weekend look for running errands and taking the kids to their sports events.

I love hoop earrings and Alex and Ani bangles for casual outfits. I feel like they add a nice statement without looking fussy.

One thing we haven’t discussed yet is this backpack. I’ve been jonesing for this Tory Burch version for months, but I just can’t seem to pull the trigger, so when I saw this Sole Society one for less than $50, I grabbed it.

It also comes in a pretty neutral taupe, but I thought the oxblood was fun for a change. It’s a great size. It holds a lot, but it’s not cumbersome. I think it would be nice for going to ball games or amusement parks or anywhere that you want to be hands free but still need to carry a lot of stuff.

For those of you at home during the day as I am, this is an easy way to look pulled together while still being comfortable. If you spend the week in work wear, this is the perfect weekend look for running errands and puttering around the house. It’s also a great way to look pulled together if you’re going to a sporting event or chaperoning your kids’ activities.

  1. You look darling as can be. That Zella jacket….be still my heart!!! Hoop earrings are my fav and your AG jeans fit you so well, gorgeous gams lady!!!!

    1. I like their silver ones too! I have some of each, but mostly gold. Sometimes I wear them all together and mix and match. They’re fun b/c they’re not terribly expensive, and you can add on over time.

  2. This is definitely my type of outfit! I love dressing up when I can, but this is much more me at the end of the day. I love how you included the backpack with this too. I’ve seen them but they never really peaked my interest. I would’ve never thought to try with this type of look, but it’s perfect!
I’ve been wearing those socks for a few months now, and they’ve become my go to for booties and sneakers. I actually meant to post them to our group yesterday and never got around to it, lol. They’re the best no show I’ve tried so far.

  3. I have to admit, I’m a little old fashioned about leisure wear in public…but this jacket looks like a cool moto jacket–so it’s something I’d definitely wear!
Did I comment before about the no socks? I can’t remember, LOL—old age, right? But I read a post where the woman was asking why we don’t like socks?? Of course it was a rant, but it’s a good question? Why don’t we like socks showing?

    1. Haha, good question. I have NO idea. It’s a much cleaner look, and these days I feel like socks with fashion sneakers look frumpy, but I guess it’s just b/c I’m not used to seeing them.

    2. Hi Jodie,

I think the idea behind no socks is to feel more fashionable, chic, and feel more the vibe that you own a sneakers. I have friends that they do not own a single pair of socks. They say that it is quite old fashioned to let socks show with especially superstars or nike frees.

Most of the young generation they dont wear socks at all, even Jo-Lynne she has always promoted this look. Besides that, todays sneakers are designed to be worn sockless.

That is the way I see it.

      Thanks, and keep it up

      Kim

  4. Even legging jeans are baggy on me ! Help ! I know it is unusual but I’ve spent hours looking for jean leggings and none work. Any ideas?

  5. This is such a cute and fun outfit! Love the whole thing. And your photos are awesome! I’ve been admiring them for so long that I finally had to say something! From the settings, lighting and overall composition, they are always so striking! You and your husband do such a great job!

  6. Have not pulled the trigger on these shoes but you make it so hard!! Thanks for sharing your socks too…I’m always wanting some no shows but never know for sure which to grab. Happy Friday!

  7. Love this look!! I haven’t tired that brand of jeans, but I’m always looking for the best pair so I would have to try those one. I love that you added your Superstar, the prefect touch to this look!!
    Thank you for hosting,

  8. This is the kind of outfit I love to wear most days! I’m so glad you’re including these casual looks. I live on the west coast which is much more casual, am a SAHM and PT yoga teacher and love to be comfy but not shlumpy. Hope to see more of these looks!

  9. Help! I’m trying to up my game when wearing jeans but it’s been challenging. Skinny jeans just don’t cut it – if the waist fits, the legs are too tight. And, of course, if the legs fit, I should end the day yanking them up. I don’t want to wear a belt and feel like boot cut isn’t always the right style. Would you weigh in and share your thoughts??

    1. Hey Lori, have you tried “curvy” styles? Those usually have a larger waist-to-hip ration, and it sounds like you have a small waist. The other option is to have them altered. Get them to fit your legs, and then it’s a pretty easy alteration to nip them in at the waist to they stay up. I hope that helps!

      1. I got the jacket and cannot wait to wear it this weekend it is so soft too and I love Zella workout gear. Thank you for the tip!

  10. Gosh I just love reading your blog everyday ❤ You do this outfit the justice it deserves. It’s a fantastic look for your figure. Thanks again for all your hard work. Blessings for you and yours. Sharon

  11. Cute outfit!
Jo-Lynne I used to get an email every week from you on Fridays with a summary of the week. I’ve noticed that I haven’t’ gotten it for the past two weeks. Any idea why? Do I need to re-subscribe somewhere?

  12. Hi Jo Lynne!
We moved to Florida from Dallas over the summer, so this is my first winter in Florida. My Dallas fashions are NOT working. lol Too warm here! Do you know of any bloggers for warm weather fashions that you trust that you could recommend?
