Spring Weekend Style: Casual Stripe Dress with Converse

Hello, friends! TGIF! And today, I really mean it. I haven’t wanted to talk about it, but my husband has been gone to Seattle all week for work. He gets home tonight. You can see now why I’ve been counting down the days till this weekend since Monday, ha!

He rarely travels, and our home always feels like there is a gaping hole when he is away. We’ve all been a bit out of sorts this week, and I can’t wait to have him back with us. It’s supposed to snow and sleet today, so I’m hoping it doesn’t cause delays with air travel.

Today is day 9 of my 27 Days of Spring Fashion style collab with Cyndi Spivey. If you’re just catching up, we are each sharing a new spring outfit every day during the month of March for your spring style inspiration! Today I’m styling an easy weekend look with a knit shift dress from Old Navy that is only $24.

I shot this look last Saturday, and it was SO FREEZING COLD. Like 17 degrees cold. I got some really strange looks from passers by. I usually do anyway, just for taking pictures of myself, but I definitely looked a little crazy dressed like this while Paul was all bundled up in coat with a hat and scarf.

Every year, Cyndi and I debate whether to do spring fashion in March of April. It always seems to make sense to do it in March because spring styles start to sell out in April, and other areas of the country get spring before we do, but we do set ourselves up for some uncomfortable photo shoots! LOL!

This striped shift dress is from Old Navy. I had a similar one last fall, and I really enjoyed it for a change from my typical sheath. This is a different silhouette for me, but it’s fun paired with Converse for a casual weekend look.

I love this grey stripe, but it also comes in solid black, navy stripe, and lime stripe. For size reference, I’m wearing a medium.

For fun, I tied a white denim jacket around my waist. I love the fit and quality of this jacket, but if you’re looking for a more a budget-friendly option, Old Navy has a similar one for $36.

My saddle bag is from last year, but Sole Society has a similar style this season. It comes in grey, blush, and camel.

I kept my jewelry simple with a long silver charm necklace (sold out, and I can’t for the life of me find anything like it) and my triple hoop earrings.

For a similar look in a more fitted silhouette, check out this tee dress for $16. You can see me wearing it on Instagram. I think this one would be especially cute with a jean jacket on top, and of course since it has short sleeves, you will probably want the extra layer for warmth too.

  1. I think it’s better to start sharing spring styles in March too even though most of the time you are freezing during your shoot! Love the look of a dress and converse! This is such a cute and classic spring look! Thank you for the linkup!

  2. I have that exact dress and wore it this winter with grey booties — it is so versatile 🙂 Love the casual look with the converse too………and will look great with a Vionic sandal or wedge when it gets warmer.

  3. At 17 degrees…you should be having that jacket on instead of tied at your waist–ha ha (do I sound like a mother?? )
But of course I like the t-shirt dress—the 3 of us are wearing ones that my mom made on the blog this whole week!! (And let me just tell you it was a whole lot warmer when we took our photos)—it just goes to show your dedication (or craziness–ha ha)

  4. Very cute and you’d never know you were freezing just by looking at the pictures. I talked about my Converse on my blog today too. I was a little leery when I ordered them but I always think they look cute on you and all the other girls I see wearing them so I just decided to go for it! Now I love them! Enjoy your weekend with your husband home. Hoping for no delays!!!

  5. Thank you so much to you and @ Cyndi Spivey for suffering in various weather situations, just to take pictures for us! Larry used to travel A LOT for work, domestic and International. It is not all the fun and glory most people think. Praying Paul makes it home on time and safe & sound. Love this dress and how it looks on you! The striped dress I had is in the donations bag, so I see a stop in Old Navy next Wed., after my skin cancer surgery. You’d love the south! We do have all four seasons, with hardly any snow or sleet. Have an awesome weekend!

  6. Perfect spring outfit! I was near Old Navy yesterday, wishing now I would have gone in. Do you think the length of this dress would look ok with white Capri leggings? I won’t bare my “road map legs” Praying your hubby makes it home as planned ☺

  7. cute outfit!! I see you and several others wearing the converse. They look great on you but I’m not sure I could pull it off at 56? What do you think? If not, any other suggestions for us? Thanks!!

  8. Love this dress – I would definitely need it in a tall though! It could be styled so many ways, with so many colors. I’m sorry that your husband has had to deal with our terrible weather in Seattle this week. Spring can’t get here soon enough! Have a great weekend!

  9. Jo-Lynne, I know what you mean about the weather being a problem for modeling spring clothes. I have been getting ready to do my Pantone series, which my daughter is going to photograph on Sunday. It’s supposed to be a high of 31 with a wind chill of 16! Ugggg! I am so tired of winter! Oh well, we usually do the shoots in our back yard so at least I can run in the house to warm up between outfits. Ha, ha. The things we do for blogging! I love this tee dress, so cute and comfy! You look great, as always and you would never know you are freezing! Have a great weekend. – Amy
