Orange Shift Dress Outfit

Well hello Monday! It’s day 17 of 25 Days of Summer Fashion, and I’m styling an orange summer shift dress two ways. This dress is affordable and easy to wear, and it comes in a variety of colors and prints.

This dress is from Old Navy so it’s very affordable. Currently the orange is $17 and fully stocked in regular, tall, and petite sizes. I’m wearing the small and it fits perfectly. I can sit in it without it pulling anywhere, and I like that this dress is longer than a lot of shift dresses. I don’t have to worry about it showing too much leg when I sit down or bend over.

I did wear a slip underneath it to prevent any clinging and to offer some coverage since the dress is rather thin. I also wore my Jockey slip shorts under it.

I get a lot of requests for work wear, so I first styled this dress with perforated peep-toe booties and a structured satchel for an office-appropriate look. If sleeveless isn’t appropriate for your workplace, this dress would be cute with a long cardigan on top. A short-sleeved version would also be an option.

I went with these fun chandelier earrings for this look. Big earrings are trending right now, and since the dress is rather plain, I wanted something attention-grabbing near my face. Mine are old, but these are similar. Another option would be adding some turquoise accessories. I love these gold and turquoise chandeliers, for example.

I like how these shoes jazz up the outfit and keep it modern, but you could also do espadrilles, a strappy sandal, or even pumps with this dress.

For my casual life, I’d be more likely to pair this dress with flat sandals so I wanted to show it this way as well.

I’m loving gold sandals right now. I find myself going for these almost every day. They seem to go with everything, but I particularly like how they look with the orange.

I swapped out the chandelier earrings for these more casual stone drop earrings, and I grabbed my woven bottom tote. I also threw on my Alex and Ani bangles to bring in more gold and to add more interest. Next time I’ll add a simple gold pendant in the neckline.

For one more option, I added a denim jacket to show how cute this dress is with a layer on top. It’s often cold indoors so I like to bring my denim jacket along with me when I wear a sleeveless dress.

I think I like this final look best of all. The denim jacket adds a nice point of interest and the blue is a pretty contrast to the orange dress. The gold sandals and woven bottom bag keep it casual but chic.

  1. Hi Jo-Lynne, love the orange color on you! I am curious about your Jockey slipshort. Can you share which specific slipshort you are wearing; size and does it ride up? Also, does the length work with above the knee dresses? Thank you! Dawn

  2. Funny…because when you were first showing it, I was thinking it’d be perfect with a denim jacket. And then voila—there you are showing it with a denim jacket!!
That color is so vibrant and pretty on you, Jo-Lynne!!
In fact, I just ordered a one sleeve shirt in this color from Old Navy–I hope it looks as good on me!!

  3. I just realized you prefer solids to prints, but wear tops with details! Lightbulb! Is there a reason?

  4. Love that summer tote you’ve been styling! Waiting for a sale!! This teacher will be wearing her shorts/capris & T-shirts for the next couple months, but the dress is cute! Sure feels good not to be working this Monday!!!!

  5. I agree with you, I like the third option the best! The denim jacket just adds that special jazzy look! Did the Jockey shaping shorts stay in place? Do you have the shorter length ones or the longer ones? I haven’t ordered them yet because I wanted your input. Thanks!

  6. I really like the color/style of the shift dress, but when you added that denim jacket – boy did that make it stand out! Perfecto!

  7. Jo-Lynne you look fabulous in this orange dress. Love the bag too!! I will be ordering the dress today. Am so pleased to see you
modeled it with a pair of booties, I can never wear open toe shoes or sandals or heels. I have major feet problems.
Thank you for all you do so we can enjoy and learn!!.

  8. I have this dress in several colors, as I love the fit, but I’d caution its shrinks a ton even when washed in cold and laid out to dry. As a result, I’ve started ordering the tall version even though I’m only 5’4″. Once washed, the regular length is way to short for the office. Wanted to pass this tip along so others don’t make my mistake!
