Must-Have Chunky Sweater for Fall

Hey guys, welcome back to 26 Days of Fall Fashion! There’s nothing that says fall quite like a chunky sweater and a pair of suede boots, can I get an amen??

This Chunky Pointelle Sweater from Gap is the must-have chunky sweater for fall. It pairs perfectly with boots and jeans.

I like easy when it comes to fashion, which is why I love outfits like this one. There is enough detail in the sweater for it to stand alone, so all I have to do is throw it on with my favorite skinnies tucked into knee-high boots, and I’m good to go.

This Chunky Pointelle Sweater is from the Gap, and I think it’s so super cute. I love the ribbed cuffs and hem, the wide boat neckline, and most of all the pointelle detailing throughout yoke and sleeves. The sleeves are extra long too, which makes it so cozy.

I try to use the term “must-have” sparingly when I’m talking about products on the blog. There are very few must-have items, let’s be honest. But this sweater is truly one of my favorite fall finds so far this year. It comes in 9 gorgeous colors, and it’s made of rayon, polyester, nylon, and alpaca, so it is incredibly soft and not itchy at all. It can be machine washed and laid flat to dry. For size reference, I’m wearing the medium. It is a bit roomy, but I think it’s supposed to fit this way. I wouldn’t want it to be clingy. Also, it is currently 30% off with code STYLE!

I felt there was a lot going on in the sweater so I bypassed a necklace and wore bigger earrings. These Crystal Marquise Drop Earrings are great. They’re lightweight, very affordable, and add a fun hint of bling to a casual outfit.

And then there’s these boots. I LOVE these boots. They suede is super luxe, the heel is the perfect height for comfort and style, and they are so flattering to the leg. Funny thing, I didn’t plan to keep them. (They were an #NSale purchase.) I was just going to photograph a few mirror selfies with them for Instagram outfits, but I love them so much I decided to hold onto them.

Knee-high boots are definitely taking a backseat this year to booties and over-the-knee boots, but these are classics that will never go out of style. Plus, they are weather resistant, which is practically unheard of for suede. They’re UGGs and they have the signature shearling footbed, which makes them super warm and cozy. I guess cozy is the word of the day!

Once again, I’m carrying the R Minkoff Large Suki Crossbody. I love everything about this bag except that it is awkward to get in and out of. It has a zipper in addition to the flap so it’s kind of cumbersome when you’re trying to get inside of it.

I often pick this up when we’re going out to a photo shoot because it goes with so much and it is just so super cute, but when I want a grey bag to carry for daily use, I usually grab this one. I also have a larger grey satchel that is gorgeous, but I am sad to say I haven’t used it much lately. It’s almost too big for my needs these days.

I usually stick with more neutral lipsticks, but this time I mixed in some of this bright pink Candy Yum Yum to get a color that was a better compliment to the outfit. I should probably experiment more with lipsticks. It does make a big difference to an outfit.

The nail polish I’m wearing is called Winter Glow. It’s a light chalky pink, and it comes in both the CND Shellac and their Vinylux.

I love how these pictures turned out. The day we did this photo shoot, it wasn’t terribly hot outside, and there were some leaves on the ground. It really felt like fall was coming. Now it’s hot and sticky again and feels like it should be August. I’m in no rush for cold weather, but it sure would be nice to have some crisp fall-like days sometime soon!

UPDATE: Well, I got what I asked for. The day I wrote this post it was in the 90s and humid (I often write my posts a few days ahead) and this morning I woke up to 56 and a weightless breeze. I actually had to throw on a sweater to take my son to school. BLISS!

  1. Love this outfit! This color is gorgeous on you too, and I love the pink lips here. I rarely stray from my go-to lipstick…I’ll find one I like and pretty much only wear that until it gets discontinued, ha!
Love these boots too! I got the chestnut color and they go with just about everything. Can’t wait to be able to actually wear them!

  2. Jo-Lynne, I really like this whole outfit and the scenery. Pink has always been one of my favorite colors to wear. I combine lipsticks quite often to get the color& feel I want. No, I love the sweater and am seriously contemplating ordering it, but I have to let it replace one top I already have. This post also helped me to think about its better to have fewer pieces I love to wear, that I feel good in, than to have lots of things that are just ‘ok.’ I did that with my warm weather clothes. As I start switching over my clothes in our permanent home, in the next week or so, I need to do the same thing. Finally, no 90’s here in GA, this week. Hope it lasts. Have a blessed day!

    1. Thanks for mentioning the scenery. I love that spot!!! You will probably see it again when the leaves start changing. 🙂 And I love that you are thinking about having fewer pieces that you love. It may sound crazy coming from me, but I truly believe that is the ideal. A lot of things come through my house so I can keep up with new content on the blog, but only my favorites get a spot in my closet. It is so much nicer to get dressed in the mornings since I’ve started keeping things separated like that.

      1. I look forward to seeing that location again in future posts. There is a saying that less is more. I hope to start applying that in more aspects of my life.

  3. Absolutely LOVE this whole outfit! You look fantastic in it! The boots are gorgeous; I like them better than than the OTKs. Ok, enough with the superlatives! LOL

    1. They’re definitely more versatile than OTK boots. I always feel like OTK boots should be for a night out or something, not just everyday. These I can see wearing to the mall or where ever.

  4. Pink is definitely one of your colors, girl!

And I DO love those boots… I haven’t had a grey pair yet, but I am definitely seeing that color popping up everywhere….so, yes…you CAN have an Amen!! 🙂

  5. I bought those boots at the #NSale in Chestnut and love them. They look cute with skirts because they are a little slouchy when not worn over jeans. I can’t wait to wear them this fall!

        1. See, I don’t look good with things tucked in, and I don’t look good in many blouses, although there are so many styles of blouses now, I can find something.

I much prefer leaving a fitted top untucked over a pencil skirt, but tops are so long nowadays. It was my go-to look all thru the 90s and early 2000s. (Gosh, that sounds old! HAHA!)

I guess I need to go to the mall and have a try-on sesh and see what I can find.

          1. Jo-Lynne, I have this same problem! Even though I am 5’7″, I have a hard time finding the perfect length of a fitted top or blouse. I was thinking today after trying some on, that maybe I am short waisted?! When I tuck things in, I struggle to find the perfect spot for the waistline to hit and look right.

    1. Yeah, it’s funny. I’ve been wearing grey boots for years, but it’s supposed to be a big trend this season. I have another pair of UGGs – super old, flats, but they are the same grey suede as these, and they are always my go-to in winter. I like the softness of grey as opposed to black, and they go with everything.

  6. Ha, you didn’t write this this morning 😉 I left the windows open last night and had to close them this morning because I was cold. I’m drinking my coffee under a blanket. Such a change since Saturday! I’m excited to get my daughter outside more. I have knee high grey boots I’ve worn for several years now and have loved them. These may be a good option when mine need to be replaced.

  7. I love this outfit so much that I just ordered the sweater! I picked up the grey boots during the Nsale and they are probably one of the most comfy pairs of shoes/boots that I own. I can’t wait to pair the sweater and boots together! Great post today!

  8. Hi Jo Lynne, are your boots the nightfall suede color? Too me they don’t look as grey on nordstroms website. Just wanted to double check before I order. Thank you!!!

  9. LOVE the outfit! I ordered the sweater in the same color! It will definitely brighten up those winter days! I have a fleece sweatshirt in a similar color and it is always my go to when I’m out running errands on Saturday mornings or a trip up to the mountains. This sweater will dress it up a bit and looks great with jeans and boots. Fall is on the way!!

  10. I wear sweaters for the majority of the winter months since I am freezing ALL of the time! I stocked up last year but seeing this sweater on you is making me think that I need to add one more to keep me cozy in the upcoming months. Any problems with it slipping off of one shoulder? That happens to me sometimes, and makes me crazy! Thanks for the suggestion and keep these cozy posts coming!

  11. The pink looks great on you! I have the same sweater in a dark teal and also a camel color. They’re so soft. I can’t wait for the weather to cool down enough to wear them.

  12. You look fabulous!! Every piece looks lovely individually, and together it’s ???? Thanks for the continued inspiration, both clothing and lifestyle

  13. Because of my job I’m not able to wear jeans, but this outfit is easy to transition! Love it and love the pink color!!!

  14. Love the sweater and the scenery! You look gorgeous in that color. Being a red-head, pink isn’t a great color for me, but I am going to order it in Teal. This is the perfect casual and comfortable, yet put together fall outfit!
