Ruched Tank Dress Outfit

Hello, hello! We’re back to safe topics today — Mother’s Day gift ideas (and not a swimsuit in sight!) I’m teaming up with Nordstrom to share gift ideas for the moms in your life, inspired by this spring outfit.

This ruched tank dress is a great throw-on-and-go dress for summer. It also comes in black, grey, and red persimmon, but I thought the olive heather was fun and different.

For size reference, I’m wearing the medium. It’s definitely a body-con style, so it’s not for everyone, but it’s a great price if you’re looking for a fun, casual dress to throw on this summer.

I wore this linen cardigan over top. Long cardigans are trending right now, and I like them because they’re both flattering and practical.

They create a long, lean line that is slimming, and this one is lightweight enough to wear well into summer.

These Sam Edelman thong sandals are a summertime classic, and they come in tons of color options. I have them in pink from last year, and this year I picked them up in this shiny gold.

I love how the gold shoes play into the gold accessories elsewhere in the outfit. I’m sure I’ll be wearing them a lot this summer.

They’re fairly comfortable for a flat sandals; there is even some light padding in the footbed.

They do run a tad small. I usually wear a size 8 in sandals, but I have these in the 8 1/2. At $59, they’re a good price for a leather sandal, and if you watch them, they go on sale sometimes.

For a more personal gift idea, the initial pendant that I’m wearing is one of my go-to necklaces. It’s a great casual piece to throw on with a t-shirt, but you can also wear it with a dress like I am showing here.

I’m obsessed with this Sole Society tote, and I think it would make a fun Mother’s Day gift. It’s so roomy and classy with the tassel detail.

Finally, Alex and Ani bracelets always make nice gifts.

What’s on your Mother’s Day wish list this year? (Besides perhaps a nap or a day off from household chores… LOL!)

  1. It’s true that not everyone feels comfortable in a body con dress…but I think even older women should have one. My step mom (the 60’s model on my blog) has one…and it’s great for layering less form fitting jackets & cardigans over (like you are doing). Otherwise if you always only wear flowy over flowy—you tend to look bigger!!!
    Great look because you know—–:)
I think you look great in a dress!!

  2. This outfit looks great on you! I’m not crazy about wearing body con dresses alone (too self-conscious of my bumps and lumps ????) but I think layering it like you did would work. Thanks for the idea inspiration! P. S. Your mom’s flowers are beautiful!

  3. Jo-Lynne, Another beautiful outfit! I love this green color on you and I appreciate the sweater idea as I’m always looking for good “dress toppers” to keep me warm enough in all the sleeveless styles out there. I purchased this cardigan and am really happy with it, but I’m wondering, is there any guideline about whether the sweater should be longer or shorter than the dress I’m wearing under it? I see that your dress is shorter than the sweater in this picture, but the hemline of the dress I’m planning to wear under mine is a few inches longer than my sweater. Maybe it’s OK as long as they’re not falling at the exact same length? Thanks for your help and great suggestions!

  4. Hi there! Wondering if you would be comfortable sharing your body stats? Eg height, weight, measurements? I am trying to figure out if this gorgeous dress would work on me!

  5. You look so great in this whole outfit. One of my favorites on you, thats for sure. The dress looks so perfect on you and I like the color you chose. I love how the sweater finishes off the outfit and all your gold accessories down to the sandals look so great with the whole look. I’ve been wanting that initial pendant for along time, but debating on gold vs. silver…..which would I wear more. I see they are out of the “K” in gold right now. Do they restock this item often? Does it tarnish at all? Have fun on your trip. Please share about it later.

    1. Hey, Kathy. The gold hasn’t tarnished in the least, but I can’t speak to how the silver would hold up. Here’s a link to the Moon and Lola site: https://bit.ly/2oVGzg6. They have all letters. Mine is the Large with the long chain. It’s the same price as on Nordstrom.com when you select Large and Long Chain.

  6. Nice outfit. In Florida and wish I had that dress now. I like the sage green color and ruching . Cardi looks nice too.

  7. Hi Jo-Lynne,
You look beautiful in that outfit. Great gift ideas too. Just wondering, what size cardigan did you go with?
    Thank you

  8. Jo-Lynnne, this outfit look absolutely fabulous on you! Thanks for sharing all your style with us! I’m over 50, but some of the things you share are perfect for me too. Keep up the good work! Blessings to you and your family.

  9. So funny- I saw the long linen cardigan in the Nordstrom store last month when I was returning something. I tried it on and almost bought it in the tan/taupe color but decided against it because I already have so many taupe cardigans. (I’m drawn to shades of taupe for some reason!)
Well, flash forward to this past week and I saw this cardigan on several fashion blogs and decided I really did need it because it was thin and a little different style than my other ones. But now it’s all sold out! ???? I guess it’s the universe’s way of keeping me from buying another taupe sweater! You fashion bloggers all seem to jump on a good bargain at the same time!

    1. It’s really weird how we discover the same things. This dress is a good example – I found it at the mall before I saw anyone else feature it. I’ve had it in my closet for a few weeks. Suddenly it started cropping up all over instagram. I follow a lot of other fashion bloggers, and I swear, I saw it featured 5 times. Same happened with a few of the shoes I thought I discovered early in the year. I don’t know if it is how the stores promote them or that we are just drawn to similar styles or what. This cardigan is the opposite – I don’t think I would have noticed it but I saw another blogger wearing it and thought it was super cute so I ordered two, figuring they’d go fast, and they did! I wanted the coral but I didn’t act soon enough. 🙁

  10. I’m between sizes on this dress so I’m curious does it shrink ANY after washing? I will wash in cold and hang to dry. Thanks!!!
