Leopard Scarf + Black Jeans

Happy Friday, friends! I wish you could all enjoy this fabulous fall weather we’ve been having here in the northeast. I know not everyone is as fortunate as we are right now, and my thoughts and prayers are with those who have been affected by Hurricane Matthew. I almost feel guilty enjoying the sunshine and moderate temperatures when I know it is so ugly in other parts of the world right now.

Here we’re having the perfect weather for open-toe booties and short sleeves with a cozy scarf for those chilly mornings. I styled this outfit around the leopard scarf that I picked up at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale back in July.

This is not one of those huge square blanket scarves; it’s more of a traditional long rectangular scarf — perfect for wrapping around your neck or throwing over your shoulders. I styled it both ways for this post. Here’s how it looks thrown around the shoulders.

When it gets colder, I’ll wear this scarf with a neutral sweater, but since it’s still reaching 70 in the afternoons, I wore a short-sleeved t-shirt. The color is called Beige Rainy Day, and I love it for this time of year when you want a neutral that isn’t a bright white.

My black skinny jeans came from Trunk Club, and I see they’re currently on sale! These jeans are fabulous. They hug your body in all the right places, and they stretch and move with you but never bag out. For black jeans under $100, check out these by Vince Camuto.

The saddle bag also came from Trunk Club. True confessions, I sent it back. I like it a lot, but I have a couple of black bags, and while this is a great size (not too big, not too small) and the saddle bag style with wide cross body strap is very on trend, I wasn’t ready to invest at this time. I did go ahead and photograph it with this outfit to show you because it’s a great bag if you’re in the market for something like this. Marc Jacobs makes a fabulous leather handbag. They last for years.

These Katleen Peep Toe Booties are such a nice transitional bootie for this in-between weather. They do run a bit big. I wish I had a half size smaller, but they’re very comfortable.

I’ve had some people ask what to wear with them in terms of socks. I don’t wear socks with these; I think that would look silly. And I won’t be wearing tights when them when it gets cold. I’m just not a fan of an open toe shoe with tights, so I’ll pack mine away when the weather gets cold for good.

If you live in a warmer climate, you may be able to get away with wearing these all winter, but here in the northeast, I’ll want more coverage than that.

My Tiger Eye Mesh Stretch Bracelet is sold out, but I love how it incorporates the black as well as the earth tones. I just wore large faux pearl studs because I find that hoops and drop earrings always interfere with my scarf and make me cranky. Ha!

If you struggle with how to mix black and brown, adding a scarf like this that incorporates both colors makes it easy. I could have worn black boots, of course, but the khaki color adds interest and creates a pleasing contrast against the black jeans.

  1. Ideal outfit for this time of year. And I love this not so traditional leopard print. The colors are perfect and it doesn’t just scream leopard. Super cute!
By the way, sending you an email…

  2. Hi Jo-Lynne! Thank you for sharing a great way to wear brown & black together! Both ways you styled the scarf looks so nice. We have friends outside of Orlando that are getting hit hard today. They boarded up all of their windows yesterday; already have one tree down & expecting more to fall and the power to go out. Keeping everyone directly impacted in my thoughts. We’re just getting thick cloud coverage and winds from it, here in south central GA.

  3. Love the black/brown/tan/ivory combinations! Very nice! I don’t see the normal “pin it”, for Pinterest. I have a board for just scarves and have to include this!!! It’s weird to have such bright, sunny, gorgeous weather today here near Philly and Florida is being drenched by a hurricane. Prayer for them.

  4. LOVE the blanket scarf! And so much better than the big ones. That one’s perfect for wearing as a wrap or a scarf, huh. Enjoy your beautiful weather. We’re beautiful and sunny here in AZ, too, but it would be nice for it to cool down a little. Hope you have a lovely weekend!

  5. You look amazing in this outfit! Thank you for styling the scarf both ways. I love scarves, but they can be tricky at times. Loved the line about the dangle earrings, and getting cranky. Ha! You’re one funny lady!
    Have a wonderful weekend!

  6. JoLynne,
I checked my comment section at your request and there were no issues. Keep those great outfits coming!

  7. Great outfit! Really like how this outfit combines soft neutrals…and love the print on the beautiful scarf!!! It looks just fantastic on you!!

  8. Hi Jo-Lynne, I’m interested in the ‘Le Color’ black jeans. I see there are 2 sizes for an 8 — 29 & 30. May I ask which you have? I have the DL1961 Emma legging jeans (after reading your reviews -thanks!) in a 30 and I’m happy with them, they are a bit roomy, but I think the 29 would be a bit snug. I’m ordering from overseas so hoping to get it right first time.
    Thanks so much!

    1. I know I emailed you last night, but for anyone who might be following along, I’d say the 29 in the Frame is comparable to the 29 Emma but the Frame do have a little more give. I was advised to size down and I didn’t. If your Emmas are roomy, you might like the Frame in 29. They look small when you hold them up, but they do stretch to fit (without bagging out). Hope that helps!

      1. It really does help, thanks so much. I’ve been looking back at your recent skinny jeans review before placing my order. I’m going for the 29 in the Frame.
        Thanks again!
