Instagram Roundup 08.12.17

Good morning! I hope the weekend is treating you well. I put together an Instagram Roundup for today and it’s a doozie, so grab a 2nd cup of coffee and sit for a while!

I’ve been wearing more of my older clothes lately so I won’t have links for everything I’m sharing today. I decided that I’ve gotten too caught up in trying to always wear something I can link to, and that gets tiring plus it’s just not realistic. I realize no one expects me to wear new clothes all the time, so I hope you won’t mind that I can’t link to everything.

This first outfit is case in point. This split neck top sold out soon after I bought it, but I wear it a lot. I like that I can throw it on with jeans or shorts and it’s the perfect length without futzing with a front-tuck. At first I put on my sand patent Miller sandals out of habit, but then I switched to these pink Gigi flats because I wanted the pop of color. I love grey and pink together.

Madewell split neck tee (old) // AG legging ankle jeans (similar for less) // pink Gigi sandals (on sale!) // beaded hoops // LV Neverfull MM – other options here (save) or here (spend) or here (splurge)

This was on the way to the beach when we were at Ocean City, NJ a few weeks ago.

I wore this to the boardwalk one night when we were at the beach. I wanted something simple but cute and put together. This is a great little tank — soft but thick enough to not be see through, flattering but modest straps and neckline, and the perfect length. (It is TTS or you can size down if in between.)

stripe tank // white shorts (similar for less) // Converse Shoreline // similar saddle bag // engravable disc necklace // sunnies c/o

I’ve worn this dress a few times since I got it. It’s so easy to throw on and go. For size reference, I have the small so it’s TTS or maybe runs a tad big. Size down if in doubt.

Some of you ask about necklaces. In this case, I wore two — one to fill in the open neckline and the other to break up the front of the dress. Both are shiny gold and they work well together.

This was one night at the shore. I wore this out to dinner, but I was cold and wished I’d brought jeans. For size reference, I have a medium in this top.

stripe pullover // jean shorts (similar for less) // Miller sandals // similar saddle bag // sunnies c/o // triad hoops

Yet another night at the beach… and another dinner out. (I don’t like to cook on vacation. It’s not that I mind cooking so much, but I prefer to do it in my own kitchen.)

thermal cardigan // similar navy tee // white shorts (similar for less) // Miller sandals // similar saddle bag // engravable disc necklace // sunnies c/o

Our last morning at the beach, I asked my husband to take a quick picture. This is pretty much what I wore every morning before going down to the beach and every night after we got back from dinner. So comfy. On chillier mornings, I threw my thermal cardigan on top.

white tee (TTS or size down if in between) // techie terry capris (size down)

I wear a variation on this outfit for all of my strength training workouts. This tee is old (from Kohl’s) but it’s a favorite, and these are my all-time favorite running/workout shorts. I have them in 3 colors. When it gets colder, I wear these and throw a sweatshirt on over my tank top to go to and from the gym.

I’m loving my new pajamas. I picked up a couple pairs when the Gap was having 40% off a few weeks ago. This is my favorite spot to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee — on my front porch in one of our wicker chairs.

I can’t wait for the weather to get cool enough to wear this outfit. I styled these spruce green jeans 4 ways for a blog post last week, and this was my favorite.

I wore this outfit to church a couple weeks ago. The blue top is from White House Black Market, but I got it last summer.

I wore this next outfit to go to dinner with some girlfriends one night last week. I used the opportunity to pull out one of my off-the-shoulder tops because I rarely have the occasion to wear them. I also pulled out my all-time favorite wedge sandals.

Normally I’d wear white jeans with this, but it was a Monday night and I didn’t want to look too over-the-top and I wasn’t sure how everyone else was dressing. SO! I wore blue jeans to tone it all down some, but then I added the fringe clutch and tassel earrings to keep it fun. LOL! #overthinker

SALE ALERT >> BOGO 50% off Lucky Brand apparel. Excludes accessories and shoes.

I ordered this cute tie front sweatshirt from Gap on sale last week. It will make a nice transition top this fall. For size reference, this is the small. If you’re in between sizes, you can probably size down in this.

I paired it with straight crop jeans because I was going for a pedicure and they’re easy to roll up, plus the two pieces work well together. I also like the contrast of the moss green bag with the ivory top. I wore a long, rather casual charm pendant necklace from American Eagle and Alex and Ani bangles. I wish I could find a similar necklace to link to. I like this one a lot with casual outfits.

I wore this for a mall run and other assorted errands. I love how this top pairs with white jeans, and I also like it with blue jeans for a more casual look.

My husband and I celebrated our 22nd anniversary last weekend, and this is what I wore to go out to dinner on Saturday night. I paired this cute printed top from White House Black Market (another top from last year, sorry!) with dark blue jeans, and then I wore white pumps to dress it up.

I was going to wear my white blazer, but I felt too businessy so I switched to my white denim jacket instead. I added a layered necklace with some turquoise in it (also old) and big gold hoops. Then a couple gold bangles and a metallic clutch finished off the outfit.

SALE ALERT >> Get up to a $750 bMoney gift card at Bloomingdale’s when you shop select styles. Ends 8/13.

I wore this outfit to church last Sunday. Our church is very casual, especially in the summertime. Anything goes, really, and I can dress up when I want to, but I still wasn’t feeling well so I decided to go for comfort.

This grey tee was a splurge last summer and I plan to have it in my closet for many years. It’s got a great fit to it and it’s a beautiful fabric. I always love grey and pink together, and these pink jeans are super stretchy and comfortable, so they seemed like a good idea. I added my embellished gladiators and a coordinating grey crossbody. Silver jewelry completes the look.

Monday was cold and rainy, and I had to drive my daughter to and from camp so I threw on comfy jeans, rain boots, and my rust tie front top for some color on a drap day. My raincoat is several years old, and this charm pendant has sold out. My Hunter boots are 40% off, by the way! They run very big so definitely size down. I wore a sweater over this when I was at home. What on earth happened to summer!?!

I’m bummed that this yellow clutch sold out again so fast. That seems to be the way it goes these days.

yellow clutch // black top // white jeans

Okay, we’re in the home stretch. Who’s still with me!?! LOL! This is what I get for not doing an IG roundup in several weeks.

This linen sheath is still available in several sizes, and it’s a great price for the quality. It also comes in black. It runs true to size for Eliza J – I always wear an 8 in her dresses, and sometimes I can wear a 6 in other brands.

You may notice, I didn’t match my handbag to my shoes, but they’re both light neutrals that work into the colors of the outfit.

navy sheath (40% off!) // white pumps // beige satchel

There is nothing new or innovative about this basic outfit, but I had just washed and styled my hair and put on makeup so I felt the need to document it. LOL! Evidently I’ve got a thing for navy and denim lately!

Take me back to the beach!!! When we were in Ocean City last month, we took pictures one morning for a Maui Jim collab and this is one of my favorite shots.

coverup (old – Athleta) // sunnies c/o // conversational sun hat

And another simple summer outfit for my casual stay-at-home mom life… these sandals are marked down to $29! They are leather, have a padded footbed, and the straps are super soft and comfy. No breaking in needed. I like this color sandal for wearing into fall, as we all know it won’t be cold for some time yet.

pink tee // similar jean shorts – 40% off with code OHYES // sandals // similar saddle bag

SALE ALERT >> 40% off EVERYTHING at LOFT with code OHYES

Finally, I wore this outfit yesterday for a meeting and a lunch date with my husband and then to host friends for dinner last night. This top will transition nicely to fall. It also looks great with white jeans.

embroidered top // AG raw hem legging jeans (qualifies for bMoney GC) // m.gemi lace-up flats (old) // crossbody // earrings

And that’s a wrap! I hope you all have some fun plans for today. We’re going out with friends tonight, but otherwise I’m just going to be puttering around the house and getting ahead on work. I have a stack of boxes sitting in my office of things that I need to return so that will keep me busy!

  1. I don’t have any problem with you featuring items you can’t link to. I don’t think anyone expects you to always wear and link the newest clothes. No one does that in real life —we all have our old favorites. I come to your blog for ideas–how to pair items, colors, trends etc.. I don’t feel like I need the exact item; I can get an idea and then shop my closet or shop for something similar. With that being said, I did purchase the red floral tank from Loft that you featured earlier in the summer as soon as you posted it. It was too gorgeous to pass up!

    1. That’s exactly what I was thinking too!
This is a great blog for ideas and tutorials.
And I really appreciate JoLynne ‘s honesty in her posts.

  2. No need to feel bad about posting old clothes! This inspired me to go back and look through my closet and pull out some oldies but goodies. I’m a new reader and am loving that you are so real! Thanks for all the outfit help!

  3. I Love your style because it fits my own casual lifestyle. My favorite outfits are the slouchy tee and shorts you wore to the beach and the terry capris and white tee!

  4. I actually love that you said it’s not realistic to be in clothes that are always new and available. My word, a breath of fresh air. I look at your blog for ideas anyway, I don’t have to have a link every time. Thanks for being real! 🙂

  5. I love your blog. You’ve no idea how you’ve helped me so much! I’m plus size and live in Europe so I can’t ever buy things from your links. So please do t even worry about that. What is helpful is when you explain your decisions. The WHY of why you paired certain types of tops (or jewelry) with jeans, etc. Your explanations of things have been a huge huge game changer for me. I no longer feel SO overwhelmed when I’m shopping because I hear your “voice”-not that I’ve ever heard your voice but I suppose your blog words-running thru my head as I’m looking around me. Not pairing baggy tops with baggy bottoms. Placing for jean pockets. Leaving inches between layers. Etc. So please never apologize for not being able to link your clothes. I just copy the general idea if I can and now have such a better understanding of sweet spots and things like that!! Thanks so much for all of your very hard work on our behalf.

    1. If you want to really hear JoLynne’s voice check out her Instastories on Instagram when she posts! ????
Agreed– older clothes fine too. I just need ideas!! Especially some other choices for fall bottoms other than just skinny jeans please!!
Appreciate all your research and help ! Julie L

  6. I love your outfits you smart, pretty lady!!!!! Don’t worry about not having links for everything, you give us all wonderful ideas of how to mix and match things. I went back to school (no kids until next week though) this past week so I plan to have a down weekend!!!!! Have a good weekend 🙂

  7. Wonderful as always, Jo-Lynne! You are my favorite fashion blogger. I, too, have no problem with no links. I like the ideas. My spruce jeans arrived this week (featured above). I love them!!! Apropos of the comment section in yesterday’s post regarding colored jeans: these are a good answer (at least for fall and winter) for those of us who find the colored jeans often show our “lumps and bumps” more than we would like. They are a thicker denim and yet very form fitting. Thanks for the head’s up!

  8. A blog idea just hit me. I do not switch purses every day. However, one reason why is that it is too much stuff to transfer back and forth. Just wondering if in your purses you keep things in smaller containers to make the switching easier? Is there is a way to make it less of a hassle to change purses often in your experience?

  9. Such a great post. Thanks. Can you tell me the size you ordered in the AThlete sweat pants you wore to lounge at the beach in morning and night? You did say size down but just wondering. Love those.

  10. I’m packing for our own week at the Jersey shore today and it seems our weather will be very similar to what you experienced. Thanks for the reminder that I should pack some jeans despite the fact that it’s only mid-August! I agree with everyone else – I often use links that you provide but I certainly don’t mind when you wear clothes that are no longer available. Your genuineness is what makes you so adorable !

  11. Super cute styles! Loved all of them so similar to how I dress???? Headed to dc today with kids for a few days to take in our capital..

  12. I love that you talked about wearing some of your older pieces and not always wearing new things. I’m finding it’s really challenging as a blogger not to do that and you are so right that it’s just not realistic. I think usually a somewhat similar item can be found to link to that gives the same feel. You had a lot of cute looks on here. I really love the hooded sweatshirt you wore at the shore with the jean shorts. Every time I see you in it I think it’s so cute. Have fun being a social butterfly this weekend!

  13. Awesome post! I too, think the beach pic for the Maui Jim collar is fantastic. The top in your last photo is stunning. I am so very ready for cooler temps. Our heat index is in the triple digits this weekend, so I’m glad my yard work is done.

    Have fun tonight!

  14. I love that you keep it real. I am not bothered by the fact that you shop your closet and have no links. You never fail to give me ideas. I also love how you describe why certain things work and don’t work and what jewelry to put with what outfits. Thanks for all your hard work! You truly are my favorite blogger!!!!!

  15. Wow, tell me about your glasses! I love those frames, and you look so pretty and polished in them.
I wear contacts 99% of the time because I don’t feel attractive behind glasses, so to see you wearing these made me more confident to wear mine…thank you!

I’d borrow that striped hoodie if you lived just a little closer…????

  16. A day late but just now catching up! I agree with everyone else, no need to wear new! You inspire us no matter what you are wearing!!

  17. You have become my favorite fashion blogger because you provide the extra details I need to make better decisions regarding my purchases. Others have said it well, but I, too, want to encourage you. You’re an awesome individual, and I appreciate your hard work, your excellent communication skills, your perfectionism, and your commitment being authentic.!

  18. Please keep using “old ” clothes! And teach us how to use the clothes we already have! We don’t need to keep buying new ones! ????

  19. Loved this post. I liked that you are honest and will style what you already have and really like.
It’s real. The outfits are all great and can be dresses up or down it seems.
