Instagram Roundup 12.30.16

Hello, friends. TGIF! I can hardly believe it’s Friday, but I’ve been on vacation for the past week so I really have no sense of time or what day it is.

I was struggling a bit for what to post today, and I decided to go with an Instagram Roundup, although I don’t feel like I have a ton of looks to share. It seems fitting, though, to post one more Instagram Roundup to finish out the year! As an added bonus, a lot of what I’ve been wearing is currently on sale!

This Marnie Sweater from the J.Crew outlet is a little bit bulkier than I prefer, but I like the cut and the length of it, and it will be perfect for layering under a down vest. It comes in 9 colors and is only $35. For size reference, I’m wearing the small. I thought the brown sweater and black jeans looked great with my leopard flats, and the teal purse provides a nice contrast against the neutral palette.

I wore this next outfit one day to the eye doctor and then to my son’s high school holiday band and orchestra concert. I thought the red printed top was festive in a subtle way, and it’s a welcome change from my typical sweater, but I think this outfit looked better with the booties than with the ballet flats. The booties add height and are a bulkier than the flats, which help offset the volume in the top and create a better balance.

This isn’t the most flattering picture, but it’s not terrible for a one-take selfie. (Meaning I didn’t take 45 pictures and choose the best one, lol. I just snapped one and posted it.) This was Christmas Eve at a friend’s house, and I thought her gift was hilarious.

I wore the next outfit to the mall to do some last minute shopping a couple days before Christmas. I don’t feel like this sweater is as flattering as some. I like the idea of it, but it’s a little too long and boxy so the outfit doesn’t look balanced. It’s unfortunate because I love the color and the quality and the detail in the knit. Maybe I should try it with bootcut jeans.

This is what I wore to run errands the day after Christmas. The LV Neverfull was my Christmas gift from my dear hubby.

I wore this next outfit to church on Christmas Day. You may remember me posting a black sweater dress outfit a few weeks ago. For $40, I think that dress is a good buy, but it was a little low-cut for my tastes, and I was afraid it would stretch out so I ended up returning it and purchasing this similar dress at Ann Taylor.

This is a denser knit, and I like the cable pattern. It is more of a body-con style, so take that into consideration, but if you’re looking for something like this, I think it’s really flattering and a nice quality that you will have for years. It’s also marked down to $48 from $148. (I paid $89 so I’m kind of bummed!!!)

You’ve seen what I wore the first day we were here in Maine. I posted that outfit yesterday. I threw the hat and scarf on to make the outfit picture worthy, but I just wore the sweater and jeans with my slippers around the house most of the day.

Finally, we took this picture yesterday here. I actually borrowed this coat from my mom because I thought it was pretty, and I wanted something different to shoot. I was wearing a pink sweater underneath, and we were on our way to my grandfather’s birthday party.

Yesterday we celebrated my grandfather’s 100th birthday at his office, and later today we’re having a family party. The local news was at the party yesterday, and they published a nice piece about him. It was really cool to see so many people come out to celebrate his life. He’s really an incredible person. I wrote a post about him a few years ago, if you’d like to see it. His story is truly inspiring.

It started snowing when we were on our way home from the party yesterday, and we woke up this morning to a winter wonderland on the lake. I’m all cuddled up in my new UGG bathrobe (thanks, Mom!) and slippers, enjoying the view and my second cup of coffee.

I just hope we can get to town later today for the party, but it shouldn’t be a problem. This is Maine, and a few inches of snow is nothing to them. The roads are constantly sanded and plowed, and we rented an SUV with 4-wheel drive so we should be good.

It’s hard to believe we’ll be heading home tomorrow. It’s been a short trip, but I’m so glad we came.

I’m also planning to post my annual Year In Review tomorrow. I’ve been working on it off and on for the past week or two so I’d have it ready to go. It’s always one of my favorite posts of the year.

Enjoy the last Friday of 2016!

  3. That was a nice post. I read the story about your Grampa, it truly was inspiring. What a great life story! You must be very proud of him. Enjoy your last bit of vacation and the beautiful snow! I’m jealous. ⛄️????

  4. Love the story about your Grandpa!!! They truly are the greatest generation. I think you look great in your Selfie and I don’t think your cowl neck sweater look too boxy or long:) Happy New Year and safe travels to you and your family!!! Looking forward to your year end post tomorrow. I also signed up for the Adore Your Wardrobe seminar and can’t wait to get started. Thanks for the recommendation.

  5. Wonderful story about your Grandpa! I love the balance of hard work and dedication to family. We don’t see a lot of that in our society these days.

  6. I enjoyed seeing these outfits. I especially love that hat – so cute, and reasonably priced. Thanks for the link!

I have to be careful in choosing sweaters. I’m on the short side, and bulky knits can overwhelm my figure. Finely knit sweaters, like the grey one, are better for me. But I love all of them lol.

  7. I was sharing with my husband, the story of your Grandpa’s 100th birthday. He said tell him Happy Birthday! We, too, got to celebrate his grandfather’s 100th. He was an active farmer, who passed away 4 monts later in his sleep. Our grandkids, like yours, were so fortunate to know their great grandparent! What a gift! Enjoy your time in Maine, my favorite state! And safe travels home. Our daughter & family are leaving Maine this morning & heading back to Northeast PA. That view is to die for! The Instagam round up is great, the pink scarf & knit blazer are my favorites. Starting January, I’m on a spending freeze & will shop my closet! I save your outfits on Pinterest, so it’s a nice reference when I’m looking for an outfit idea. Praying for a healthy & happy 2017 for you & your family!

  8. The beige sweater (you’re not sure about), I love. Try it with slim or baby boot cut jeans instead of skinnies and see if that feels more balanced.
The mug was a perfect gift from your friend. I can only imagine the amount of time and thought that goes into putting out a daily blog. I love that you have a conversation with us. That personal touch and your style ( of course ) keeps me checking in every day.
It’s so pretty in Maine on the lake. Enjoy your day!

  9. JL:
Thanks for a fun year! It has been just over a year since I found your Blog and started on a trip through fashion, fun, beauty, and just everyday life, and what it brings. It’s been Never Boring! I’ve learned Tons from you. Thanks, and Happy New Year to you and yours.

  10. Thanks for the link to the story about your grampa. So inspiring! You are blessed to be part of his family. I hope his parties were special to him and am glad your family was able to be there. I’d love to see a picture of him celebrating! ????

  11. I have been a bit behind in my blog reading so I’m playing catch up tonight. I just finished the tribute you wrote about your grandfather. It was truly a pleasure to read and it was easy to feel the love and respect that you have for him. It is such a blessing that you are able to share him with your children! Thank you for sharing and please pass along a big thank you for his service and sacrifice for our country.

  12. The size of your monogram necklace is so perfect, and more easily readable than a smaller monogram. Love it. Great idea to do an Instagram round-up. Wish I’d thunk of it.

Your paisley top is right up my alley. I have a Pinterest board for all things paisley. Pinning you now!
