Instagram Roundup // What I Wore This Week 10.29.16

Hello, friends. Happy Saturday! Guess who woke up with a headcold? Bah humbug. It’s more like a throat and chest thing, actually. Whatever it is, I can feel something coming on, and it doesn’t help that it’s 33 degrees outside. No joke.

I decided to skip my 5K that I’d scheduled for this morning. I was on the fence about it anyway, and running in cold air always activates my asthma so I’m afraid running a race when I’m pushing myself will seal my fate and make this a full-blown thing. If I take care of myself, maybe I can ward it off. I’ll be staying warm and drinking Emergen-C all day! What do you do to fight a cold?

Well, it’s Saturday and that means time for another Instagram Roundup!

This post is a mixture of what I actually wore this week and some other random photos I posted to Instagram because I was sharing sale alerts and blog posts.

This cowl neck tunic is my new favorite. I literally wore it 3x last week. *Insert one of those cute monkey emoticons with his hands over his face.* I wore it the way I showed on the blog yesterday to go to dinner with the family last weekend, and then I threw it on as shown below with my black ripped jeans and burgundy suede flats one day working at home and driving the mom taxi. Another day (not pictured) I threw it on with my ripped blue jeans and leopard ballet flats. It’s so versatile. LOFT still has 50% off all their sweaters, bringing this tunic down to $29! It has such a soft feel to it and looks much more expensive than it is.

I wore this mock neck sheath dress to an event in South Carolina a few weeks ago. It’s such a versatile dress for warmer fall weather, and it’s on sale for $81. I can even see wearing this at holiday time with a leather jacket or some type of wrap over the shoulders.

I love a leather jacket for fall, and this plum color is unexpected but still highly versatile. This jacket came in my first ever Trunk Club last spring, and it was love at first sight. This one is similar and on sale.

This orange v-neck sweater is so soft and cozy and it comes in a bunch of different colors. It’s huge so if you order one, size down. It’s marked down to $34.99 and then 35% off with code GREAT (40% off with a GapCard.) I paired it with ripped jeans and rain boots for a rainy Saturday. This is another sweater I tend to reach for almost daily. It feels so good on.

I debuted my new OTK Boots with this geo print sheath dress last Sunday. I was afraid I looked a little too “Pretty Woman” circa 1990 but my friends assured me that I looked classy and on trend. I hope they’re right!

Speaking of LOFT and 50% off sweaters, this Side Tie Poncho is one of my faves and it’s still available. It also comes in black.

I updated my post on how to wear ankle boots and this is my favorite way to style this look — skinny jeans with a single cuff and a neutral bootie.

And here we are with another variation on my fall mom uniform — skinny jeans, ballet flats, and a cute sweater. This pink Gap sweater is another favorite, and it’s also marked down to $34.99 and then 35% off with code GREAT (40% off with a GapCard.) This one is more TTS – I am wearing a medium. This pink color is so pretty paired with both blue jeans and grey. I was also thinking of trying it with my white jeans and grey booties.

And finally, this is what I wore to my daughter’s Halloween party yesterday. This sweater is sold out except for the charcoal, and you definitely want to size down. It’s very large, but it has a great feel to it and the cocoon style is flattering.

And that’s a wrap! I’m off to nurse my cold and maybe shoot an outfit or two this morning before I start the mom shuttle. Both kids have a full day of activities, so I’ll be busy carting them around. It’s a busy season of life, but I’m thankful for the glory of the ordinary. I’m grateful to know where my kids are sleeping at night, who their friends are, and what they’re doing at almost any given time. I know I won’t have that peace of mind forever, but for now, I’ll happily take it and all of the responsibilities that come along with it.

  1. I had to laugh at the Pretty Woman comment because I was asking myself the same thing yesterday while trying on a dress and boots. That look is perfectly classy and far from “streetwalker” on you though. I’m wondering, would it be possible to maybe cover some otk boot basics? Say, general do’s and dont’s and tips maybe? They are everywhere right now, and I’m coming up short on tips for how to wear and style them. I’m betting I’m not the only one new to game and scratching my head about options and “rules” (like, bare legs vs leggings with a dress, dress length and proportion, and shaft height -basically everything, ha!). I always appreciate your fit and styling tips!
    Hope you feel better!

    1. Yes! I ordered a pair and I feel like I’m wearing waders…I think they’re a bit too high. Love the look on others

    2. Yes! I can definitely work on that. I’ve been “studying” them on other fashion bloggers for quite a while, and I feel like I have the hang of it. I am not sure I can explain WHY what looks good looks good, but I’ll give it a shot. 🙂 I feel like you and I have a very similar style aesthetic, and I think you’ll love them once you get used to them. 🙂

  2. I hope you feel better real soon Jo-Lynne! I like all of the outfits in the roundup. While we are having cool mornings, it’s going up into the upper 80’s/low 90’s, so wearing long sleeves or sweaters, is not happening.
    Have a blessed day!

    1. Funny, my husband was toying with a job possibility in Atlanta a few years ago and I started looking at houses and dreaming of a warmer climate. But hearing you talk about your 80s and 90s in October makes me glad we stayed here in the northeast. 🙂 While I hate being cold, I do enjoy the seasons and I love October here in PA. 🙂 Now, come January, when I say it’s 20 and you say it’s 60, I am going to be SO jealous. 😉

  3. I hope you feel better soon! I take elderberry syrup when I get a virus. It was smart not to run when you don’t feel well. It will definitely expedite your recovery.

  4. Yes, enjoy these years with the mom taxi! They are so busy, and yet from what you have written, you understand the precious time this is and are wise to cherish it. Hope you feel better soon! Your sweaters are lovely, and you look beautiful. I still can’t quite embrace ripped jeans, but if anyone looks good in them, you do. I guess I’m just too old for the look and don’t quite “get it”. But variety is the spice of life! Most people don’t “get me” in my school clothes, and that’s okay, too! Ha Off to my grandchildren’s soccer games and gearing up for our Trunk or Treat Monday night. We had a good fall party with my first-graders yesterday. 🙂

    1. Thanks, Suzanne. I always enjoy your thoughtful comments. I used to love wearing seasonal clothes and accessories when I was teaching. The kids loved it! 🙂 Sounds like you’ve got a fun filled weekend ahead!

  5. I love your outfits! So much inspiration. Do you have any suggestions of blogs that are for a larger (not plus size, just more ‘fluffier’ 😉 ) figure? thanks.

and i second the elderberry syrup.

  6. Love that White House Black Market dress!
I tried it on and I want it. I’m hoping for a sale or a coupon or something (I’ve used up all my coupons!).
I’m loving essential oils for colds and aches and pains and digestion and everything! Hope you feel better soon! L-lycine helps with viruses too.
Texas is having near record heat this October and I get used to it so I was SHOCKED when you said it’s 33 degrees there. Yikes!

    1. It is so weird here this year. Back and forth and back and forth. It will be 71 again tomorrow! I really detest the cold so I’m happy for any warm days we get. 🙂 Thanks for the L-lycine tip and I always forget about my essential oils. I’m running low. I need to replace my Thieves. 🙂

  7. I discovered your blog on Pinterest about a month ago and I find you’re just what I needed to help me with my style pains. I’ve learned so much in just a month and have actually bought two of your featured pieces. The hinge utility jacket and the free people cowl neck. You’ve introduced me to the world of Nordstrom which has only recently arrived in Vancouver Canada where I live. I’d love to see a post about why premium denim is worth it and what women over 40 should look for. I find shopping for jeans to be so overwhelming but you’ve really inspired me. I love your blog!

    1. Thanks, Robyn! That’s so nice to hear. Basically premium denim is made with higher quality materials and there is more attention to detail. They feel amazing and the fit is far superior to lower quality denim. I try to always shop on sale, and those who like to thrift can find great deals at consignment shops and thrift stores. There is also Thred Up and similar sites. I hope that helps!

  8. What size are you wearing in the Loft cowl neck sweater? You have got me hooked on that store, BTW, I never shopped there before I started following you, now it is one my favorite stores–especially after I see you wearing it!

  9. Love your practical fashion advise as I am currently the Mom taxi as well. Just curious what size did you order in the loft sweater? I am very short waisted so I am thinking this might be the perfect sweater as it isn’t ribbed at the bottom.

Hope you are feeling better soon.

    1. Hey Becky, I have a small in that mocha melange tunic. I also ordered a small in the reindeer sweater. (I’m not sure which one you were referring to.) I find that I tend to wear smalls in their sweaters these days. I am back and forth in their sizing. I like their dresses in medium.
