In Which She Rambles (but that would be nothing new…)

You know how sometimes you go days with NOTHING to blog about and you delve far into the recesses of your brain to find something interesting to say?  And then you have a week when there is too much to say and too much to do to take the time to say it?  Yeah, I’m having one of those weeks.

I’m wondering if it’s possible for a night owl to suddenly become a morning person.  I’m sure it has more to do with the sun coming up at 5am than my personality changing, but I’m realizing how utterly delightful it is to wake up with the birds.  The only caveat is that my 3-year-old can sense my waking from a mile away.  Or a room away, as the case may be.  Actually, she’s usually in bed beside me, so that would certainly explain it.  At any rate, I’d rather have the early morning hours to myself, but I’ll take what I can get.

This morning I’ve already had my blood drawn, gone to the grocery store, and had 1-1/2 cups of coffee and an English Muffin.  I’m in my workout clothes, trusting that the urge to Shred will hit just as soon as I finish this blog post, and hopefully before my children awake.  (Yes, my 3-y/o did hear me get up this morning, but when I left the house without her, she had no choice but to snuggle up to her daddy and go back to sleep.  Maybe I should run errands at 7am every morning.)

Yesterday was a great day with a rough ending.  I’ll postpone the rough ending for another post.  In fact, I have plans to elaborate on that over at Parenting Squad later this week, and I’ll be sure to share the link when it goes live.

As for the rest of my day, it was full, but in a good way.  I thrive on busyness and socializing, and there was no shortage of that yesterday.  I spent the morning in an encouraging study of the Bible with a group of ladies from my church and the rest of the day at the pool, which usually results in some fantastic blog fodder.  Yesterday did not disappoint, although this time the blog fodder had nothing to do with a child almost drowning, getting lost, or throwing a temper tantrum.  In fact, this may be the first summer in my career as a mother that I won’t have to dip even a toe in the water unless I want a break from the heat.  My kids are FINALLY old enough to swim and play on their own, and with playmates galore, they have no need of my entertainment, which is meager at best.

But I had a little excitement of my own.  After I’d been at the pool for most of the afternoon, I was walking towards my chair when another mom spoke to me.  Turns out, she recognized me from Twitter.  And when I got home, I saw this in her Twitter stream:

mindi

I’m famous!  Ha.  Okay, notsomuch.  But I thought it was such a hoot.  She looked familiar, and her Twitter handle sounded familiar, but evidently I wasn’t following her.  D’oh!  Twitter FAIL.  I remedied that, though.

Today I’m preparing for the Arbonne makeup party that I’m hosting tonight.  Usually this type of event is when I fall off the wagon and eat until I have appetizers and desserts coming out my ears, so I’m purposefully keeping the food simple and light.  I plan to make my homemade mojitos as well as Ina’s Lemon Yogurt Cake.  I’ve never made the cake before, but I saw her make it on her show and then came across it in one of her cookbooks.  I have all of them — her cookbooks, that is — and I can’t recommend them highly enough if you like to cook.  Or eat.

Correction: I have all but her latest (Back to Basics), and I would LOVE to have it.  Ahem, if you’re reading, Hub.  My birthday is Wednesday, remember? Any-WHO.  I rarely try out a new recipe when I’m entertaining, but Ina has never steered me wrong, so I’m gonna take my chances tonight ’cause I’m a firm believer in living on the edge.

Besides that, I’m going to make up a gorgeous fresh fruit platter (again, with inspiration from Ina.)  The only dangerous thing I’m serving is Boursin with caramelized onions on toasted baguette slices.  Honestly, I could eat my weight in that stuff, but I’m hoping that I don’t.  At least not until after I have my makeup done.  I’m sure my friend doing the Arbonne demo will appreciate that when she’s 6 inches away from my garlic breath face, artfully applying eye shadow.  My goal tonight is to master the “smoky eye.”  I feel a Chic Critique post in the works…

And on that note, I have a Chic Critique post to get up today, so I better mosey on along.

Talk to me.  What are you doing to keep busy this summer?  What’s your favorite dish to serve for a party?  Has anyone ever recognized you from your blog?  Can you see through my blatant attempt to get more comments by asking a myriad of random questions?  Alrighty then.

  1. I can’t get away from the shred! It is stalking me! I did it once and promptly forgot about it. Or pretended to at least. Everyone is mentioning it in their posts today. I think God is trying to tell me something. Or at least the scale is!

  2. You’re famous! Ha! I love it. That’s very cool. Pretty soon you’ll have to wear big sunglasses and ignore the paparazzi as they snap your picture at the grocery store.

Mornings are blissful, but I’m a night owl too and sometimes they’re just hard to get up for. *sigh*

  3. LOL I follow Mindi on Twitter and FB! she’s fun!!! How funny you were “recognized” LOL (was there any head swelling? LOL)

I’m having one of those blog “down” times, can’t seem to find as much to blog about – but I think that happens to me when my life gets more busy – you’d think it would be the opposite – I do have ideas, so hopefully I can post more next week when things slow down a bit – we’ve had basketball camp and several doctors appts with issues lately – plantars warts, scoliosis, and not wearing your rubberbands on your braces don’t make for “fun” blog posts! LOL

  4. What fun, famous girl! I’ve never been approached, which either means: a) I’m not famous (likely); b) my pictures look better than in person (also likely); c) people are too shy around here. 🙂 -Christine

  5. Famous, yes you are! The boys and I have been going tot he pool alot. At least once a week we try and go some where, bowling, the park, some sort of get out and have fun. I have been enjoying spending my time with them because usually I am working but now I have summer to have fun! And look for a new job!

  6. I too think I may be a night owl turning into a morning person.

That’s a great story about getting recognized at the pool. I was just recognized from my blog last week- while in labor at the hospital! I got a kick out of it. I was in the L&D room and a nurse came in and said, “You’re Frugal in Virginia, aren’t you?” Apparently she reads my blog, knew I was local, and read I would be having my baby very soon, so she had been looking out for me. It was so nice to get to connect with a reader outside of the internet- even while I was in labor.

  7. I have been a morning person forever and I love it!! You can accomplish so much more (grocery shopping, errand running, etc) when most of the rest of the world is just waking up. No lines, no people clogging the aisles of the grocery store. The only problem is when places don’t open up until 9 or 10 (my bank, Victoria’s Secret, etc).

  8. O.K., I’ll bite. I’m writing more this summer than I ever have. And getting ready for She Speaks. Woo hoo!

My kids are more independent than they’ve ever been. Working, babysitting, etc. Oldest has a car and just left with middle daughter and a friend. It’s weird. So the baby (age 11) and I get to hang out a lot. 🙂

I’m actually having my neighbors in for a party tomorrow night. I’m making marinated asparagus, bruschetta, BLT dip, goat cheese and sun dried tomato dip, Paula Deen’s Lemon Blossoms, Ina’s Outrageous brownies, and somethingelseIcan’tremember. Plus beer, wine, and Pimm’s (in honor of Wimbledon). Should be fun!

  9. Oh to be famous!!!

Lots of questions – my problem is I have so much to blog about, but just have not had the time.

I still have some of my England trip to blog about, including the tv chef, the party we had for my daughter and her friends WHO LEAVE PRIMARY SCHOOL TOMORROW and are already all in tears.

Today the kettle died just before a friend came for coffee, and then as I opened the front door, the door fell off it’s hinges. To add insult to injury our washing machine has been declared dead (but after 17 years of loyal service).

The one thing I did achieve today however, was making it to the post office with a certain package, so at least something went right 🙂

  10. Ha. I love Ina. She’s my absolute favorite. My hub and I were just talking about how soothing her voice is—and her recipes are always no fail. I like she when she gets all smug and pleased with herself. That’s the way I am when I cook, I make everyone try it and then look for their praise. My favorite episodes are when she has her hunky guy friend, TR on her show. Then you get multi-level deliciousness when watching. I am preparing for my Mom to visit from Florida, and our neighborhood gathering so appetizers are on my mind as well. I have recently discovered Vidalia Onion dip and buffalo chicken dip. Good eats for us Georgia Girls, but definitely not for the calorie conscious!

  11. I’m reading about the Shred all over the ‘Net these day! Is it really that awesome? I have a local gym membership and I have a hard enough time dragging my butt over there after a long day at work.

Oh, and BTW – Ina is completely awesome. That Lemon Yogurt cake recipe looks delectable! I’m definitely adding that to my list of goodies to make this summer.
    Bring. On. The. Good. Stuff.

  12. Anne, if the batter is any indication, this cake will be a HUGE hit.

And the Shred is awesome b/c it’s just 20 minutes. It’s brutal, but you’re done and on with your day in no time flat.

  13. I love Arbonne – at least for skin care. I have the FC5 face wash/toner and moisturizer and the RE9 masque, peel, and serum (my fav!), and the makeup primer. REALLY expensive but good stuff. My skin is soft as a baby’s butt. It also cleared up a ton too – until summer hit, and until they upped my fertility drugs. Arg!

  14. I always try new recipes when entertaining! My friends just expect it. I can’t try all the delicious desserts ahead of time because my family would end up eating them and that would be bad.

Our summer is going to be mostly swimming, library, and the gym. It is already hotter than you-know-what here, so we try to limit car trips.

I wish I could get motivated to get up early. I am going to a Bible Study at 6:00 a.m. once a week, but that is just enough to convince me to sleep as much as I can other days. 😉

  15. I’m having trouble coming up with interesting posts myself. It’s summer and routines have changed or should I say they are non existant. So cool that you were recognized!

  16. So. I’m currently in NH visiting McDaddy’s sister, Angie and her family. SHE is an Arbonne rep and is doing her best to convert me to Arbonnism. =) Another consultant friend of hers just did makeovers for us on Tuesday. The blonde brow wax and dual mascara made a HUGE difference in my fabulosity. I ordered them both, along with $90. of other must haves.

As far as being recognized… Um, not so much. But if I saw you out and about I’d totally walk up to you and introduce myself!

  17. What am I doing to stay busy this summer? Hubby and I went to England for a week, sans toddler. Seeing as how we blew all our money set aside for the trip (and then some), I’ll likely spend the rest of the summer doing free things…library story times, park outings, etc. Anything to keep my high maintenance wee one entertained (cheaply!).

  18. I’m not writing as much as normal, but I think a lot of that has to do with getting set in a new schedule. We are still finding our routine at the new house. So much to do, and never enough time.

We are spending a lot of time at home this summer. Tons of little projects, and no funds to travel after they are done. lol

  19. How is THE SHRED going? I read your first post about it awhile back and I’ve been contemplating buying it ever since. Do you think it really will help you lose weight and tone up in 30 days? I’m just about ready to go out and make the purchase! I’d love to be able to get back into my pre-pregnancy clothes sooner rather than later because I’ve been wearing the same 2-3 outfits everywhere…
