How to Style a Red Blazer & Jeans

Sharing how to style a red blazer with jeans and a neck scarf. I love mixing dressy and casual pieces for a modern look.

Hello, friends! Happy Valentine’s Day Eve! I figured this is a perfect day to talk about how to style a red blazer. As y’all know, I don’t wear a lot of blazers, but when I saw this one, I knew it had to be mine.

To keep the look a little edgy and to suit my casual lifestyle, I paired the blazer with a t-shirt and jeans. I went ahead and wore my nude pumps to shoot this look, which would be perfect for wearing this outfit to dinner or to a blogging event, but I was thinking it would also be cute with ballet flats for a more casual look.

Of course this blazer would also be perfect for the office or church with a white blouse and pants.

I’ve been wanting to try the neck scarf trend, so I ordered this floral silk scarf. I didn’t intend to wear it with this jacket, necessarily, but when they arrived, I decided they were a perfect pairing. I just tied it in a knot.

By the way, this tee is the product of my friend Carly. I’ve shared it before, but if you haven’t seen it, she set out to create the perfect white tee (hence the name) and a portion of the proceeds benefit K.Hovnanian Children’s Hospital. I love that the tee is made in the USA, in fact, it is made right here in Pennsylvania. You can get 10% off with code Jolynne10.

FYI, it does run a bit small; I have the medium and it fits perfectly. I’ve washed and dried it, and it holds up great.

Also, my nail polish in these shots is CND Winter Glow (a perennial favorite) and my red lipstick is GrandeLIPS lip plumper in Lust Red.

I’d love to hear your thoughts! Would you wear this outfit? Or how would you alter it to work for you?

  1. I love that look on you – but the scarf isn’t me. I would probably pair the jacket with a white tee that has some writing on it (for a bit more edgy look) and then maybe pair it with black booties. There are so many ways you can wear that jacket – great staple piece to have. Thanks for sharing the look.

  2. You look Stunning!! I absolutely love the whole outfit and I think I’m going to half to try the neck scarf trend:) That color red on you is amazing.

    1. Hm, definitely something feminine – floral scarf or blingy necklace. You could do blue jeans if they’re not too dark, and white jeans or dress pants would be sharp with a navy blazer.

  3. I never feel right in a blazer for some reason, but I love this red one and the fact that it has no collar. It looks great with your jeans and casual tshirt!

  4. I love the fact that the jacket is collarless and the back detailing that you spoke of is a nice finishing. It looks great on you, as most everything does! I’m not a fan of the scarf, especially when combining the red, white and blue, I think they look a little too flight-attendant-ish. Sorry if that sounds harsh. ????I think maybe wearing a scarf tied differently (maybe a long one) would have a different feel–even if it was in those same colors. Enjoy your blustery day, the wind is. Leona like crazy here too!

    1. Not harsh at all (I’ve had harsh comments; this isn’t one, haha!) and I did ask for opionions. 🙂 I see what you mean, but I really liked it tied this way. I was thinking it was slightly patriotic, though, with the red, white and blue. LOL! My only complaint is it’s kind of thick, and it does interfere with the neckline of the jacket. I have another scarf, a thinner one, that I picked up over the weekend that I like better b/c it’s not as bulky. I’ll be styling it for the blog soon!

    2. I had the same thought…looks too much like a flight attendant. Someone suggested a statement necklace; I think I’d take that route. But, the outfit does look fantastic on you…so if you love it, go for it!

  5. Jo-Lynne, this outfit came together perfectly. You look fabulous! I am so hot natured that having a scarf tied around my neck would not work, and blazers don’t suit me any longer. I’d have to wear a jazzy necklace and a red cardigan, with flats. I love your story about the kids and the revolving door.

    Have a blessed day!

  6. The outfit looks great and perfect for a blogging conference or another event that was a little more dressy than lunch with the girls but still jeans-appropriate. I like that neck scarves are coming back. I saved all of mine from the 1990’s and 2000’s when I wore them for work and so I have quite a collection. It’s also nice to see the color red. Red is a classic that flatters so many people. I am retired now and work part-time in a clothing store. We stocked a lot of red for the holidays and now its all on the clearance rack. No one seems to want to wear red anymore unless its on Christmas Day. I’m sure the color will make a comeback someday soon!

  7. Beautiful outfit! It is fun but hard to see our kids grow up and out of one phase into another. Thanks for sharing the perfect white tee link. I think I am just going to have to get one.

  8. Ok.. I think you may have won me over! I’m going to give the neck scarf a try. Isn’t it funny how we always feel so dorky in a scarf, but really they look great?! You look so nice with that splash of silk color around your face!

I grinned a lot at your opening email. Yes, POOF! is a good word for it. Buckle up. The ride just goes faster and wilder from here on! But it’s all good. Enjoy each phase for what it is and you won’t have to look back with regrets or longing. Have a great week!

    1. Yes, I totally feel dorky in this, even as I posted it, I wondered how it would be received. I think I like the neck scarves best with a round-neck or v-neck tee or sweater, so it doesn’t conflict with a collar – very Parisian. 🙂 But now that I’ve worn it and seen it posted, I like it an I think I’ll feel more confident to wear it in the future. 🙂

  9. I wear blazers all of the time to work. I”d wear this one with a black or navy sheath or over a printed sheath with some red in it. I love the scarf. You can also tie it around the handle of your bag for some classic elegance! I’m definitely going to check out the blazer. I do not have a red one!

    1. Megan, I would have never thought to tie a scarf around the handle my a handbag but what a great idea! I’ve clipped on pom poms and tassels for a fun pop of color to a handbag but the scarf idea is genius! Thanks for the tip!

  10. I love this outfit on you and as many have said, you look stunning in red. I would totally wear a blazer with jeans as I am a big fan of both and to me just adding the blazer steps it up a notch. Now a question about blazers. I have some wool ones from a few years back that I have held onto. Should I keep them or donate them???? Thanks for all the hard work you put in your blog and I love hearing about the personal things in your life. Tomorrow should be sunny in Philly as it is sunny, but cool here in Ohio today and from reading your posts, I gathered you get the next day what we have today. Sorry this is so long.

    1. Hey Janice, I think most blazers are pretty timeless, but it’s hard to say without seeing the styling. 🙂 Definitely try it! I think it makes them more modern to wear with a tee and jeans.

  11. This is a home run I Love IT!! Gotta have that blazer no doubt about it!! This is prefect for going out to a nice restaurant, to run errands, to go to church any meeting. Red, blue and yellow are all very popular this Spring! I could also see it over a sleeveless dress! HOME RUN!!

  12. Jo-Lynne, Red is definitely your color! The whole outfit is stunning on you! I I know what you mean about children growing up so quickly, I always said my kids went from diapers to diplomas overnight! Now I’m a Gramma to adorable 3 & 7 year old girls and it’s happening all over again! However, with being a Gramma, I’m able to slow down and really relish each stage of their lives! Plus the added fun that sometimes it’s quite acceptable to act like a 3 & 7 year old even though I’m nearing 60! Enjoy your kids to the fullest and you will have a lifetime of memories to cherish!

  13. Loving this look! So chic and effortless. I love blazers, no matter the color, but your red one looks amazing with the colorful scarf and nude shoes and bag. These are my favorite kind of outfits: trendy, but classic! You sure do know how to style that blazer!

  14. OMG!!!! This is one of my favorite looks!!!! You look amazing, and your lashes are AWESOME!!! Love the new silk scarf trend, and i can’t wait to try it out!!!! I don’t have the red blazer, but i have a bright coral one that i will “copy-cat” this look with!!! AMAZING!!!!!

  15. I really like this outfit and would have never thought to put the nude pumps with it, but I think that is what elevates the look! I have been thinking about getting another blazer in a color – this one looks awesome!

  16. You look amazing in the red. I also love the blazer on you. With my life style, I would wear that exact outfit just about anywhere. Only a work place of professionals would need some tweaking. You should wear red and blazers more. Love the scarf. I want it!

  17. Such a great look on you! Love everything about it–the color red, the blazer, the jeans. My kind of outfit. How does the blazer wear? Does it wrinkle?

    1. It did wrinkle on me. I wore it in the car for 10 minutes to our location, and the sleeves and back have some wrinkling, so that’s a bit of a bother. I like Joanna’s tip about putting it over the seat instead of wearing it en route.

  18. JoLynne you nailed this outfit! Looks so nice on you, red is definitely your color. The nude pumps are perfect and the whole look is spot on–great job! Thanks for sharing such a cute outfit with us and always sourcing everything. Love reading your blog every day!

  19. This looks fantastic. It’s funny, because as I was scrolling, I only saw the top half of the outfit at some point. And I thought it looked nice, but a bit ‘traditional’. However, you make it young and fresh with the jeans, especially with the hem detail as well. I think you need a heel with this, otherwise you might end up looking too ‘preppy’, but that is just my personal opinion.

  20. Love your red blazer! The neckline makes it modern and fun. I’m not comfortable with the small neck scarf so I may sit this one out.
*Just a tip. * I put my blazers over the bsck of my seat, so they are not wrinkled in the back when I get to my destination.

  21. Love the blazer and outfit. Not sure I’d be comfortable wearing a neck scarf, but it looks great on you! I have a bad habit of wearing a lot of black, so I love seeing all the color you wear. Have a great Monday!

    1. I am totally not comfortable with the neck scarf yet, but I think it is like most trends — you have to JUST DO IT once, and then it gets easier and seems more natural the next time. 🙂

  22. This is my FAVORITE look that you’ve styled hands down!! The red blazer is stunningly perfect with your dark hair. The scarf pulls everything together with a hint of sassiness. YOUTHFULNESS and CONFIDENCE is the message this style sends!

  23. Wow , the whole outfit is awesome , I would so wear that , red is your color , you look great in it . Yep , in the blink of an eye your kids will be grown and out of the house , so cherish all those times with them . Have a great afternoon !!!!!

  24. Oh my goodness, you look STUNNING in this red. I LOVE this entire look- so fashion forward and yet wearable. You nailed it with this one! Red is your color!

  25. Hi Jo Lynne. What size are you wearing in the blazer? You and I wear the same size in most things, and LOFT can sometimes be tricky. Thanks!

  26. I really like the whole look on you. Red is your color. I like to wear blazers. I do like the scarf instead of a piece of jewelry.

  27. I read a few months ago that blanket scarfs were on their way out and the thinner neck scarfs were coming. and you look great with it. I just don’t know if I can pull it off. My thoughts are retro, business and flight attendant. I really don’t fit into any of those categories. Like I said though you pulled it off very well and look fabulous.

  28. I would totally wear this. I would have to do skinny ankle dress pants for work. That scarf is what caught my eye. I’ve worn a neck scarf here and there but haven’t fully embraced it now that it’s a trend, but those colors work so well together. It makes me want to wear a neck scarf.
