Summer Mom Fashion Over 40

Welcome to the LAST Daily Mom Style of summer! WOO!!! The weather forecast is suddenly looking decidedly like fall, and while I adore summer, now that the kids are back in school (can I get an amen!?) fall weather just seems appropriate. That, and I am anxious to inject some new life into my wardrobe with some fall pieces and maybe even *gasp* layers! Although I don’t know who I’m kidding. We all know that when the weather turns cool, I’ll just trade my shorts-and-tank uniform for skinny-jeans-and-sweaters. Oh well. I’m a suburban housewife; there is certainly no need to reinvent my style every day.

As for now, here’s what I’ve been wearing. I wore this outfit on our trip to the beach last week. Little did I know I’d be wearing it ON the beach, while my husband drove back home to retrieve my luggage that contained my bathing suit. Yes, this little mishap caused QUITE the drama on our vacation last week!

Neon Tank and Jean Shorts

This neon-pink slub henley tank is from Old Navy last summer, and I always get compliments on the color. It is quite bright, but it’s fun! I wore it with my cuffed jean shorts (also old — and getting too big; I wish I could order a new pair in a smaller size) and a hand-stamped silver necklace from the Blissdom Conference a few years back. I carried my blue Fossil tote (an eBay find) and wore my silver Orthaheel Mia Sandals.

The next day was the Blogger Beach Bash event in Avalon, and I wore my cut-offs and this purple tank over my bathing suit. The bracelet (I wish I had a close-up!) was a gift upon arrival at the Beach Bash. It’s really pretty and comes in a variety of colors.

Beach Outfit

It was a cloudy day and I never really sat down or went in the water so I kept my shorts on with my bathing suit top. The only picture I have is this one. I love this bathing suit. I got it at Title Nine after ordering about 10 suits from 5 different retailers. (I returned 8 and kept this one — no longer available — and one from Athleta.) Both of these companies have bra-sizing for their bathing suits — the most brilliant invention EVER!)

This is the outfit I wore the next day to hang out at home. These madras shorts and raglan sleeved boho top are both from Old Navy. It’s not high style, but it’s cute and easy to wear. The necklace is from Stella & Dot (it’s sold out, *sad panda*).

Plaid Shorts

This was a Saturday outfit, and we also had friends over for dinner. The orange ribbed tank is from Banana Republic (old) as are the khaki cuffed shorts. I wore my Orthaheel Julie Slingback Sandals and an old Silpada necklace.

Orange Tank, Khaki Shorts

I wore this to church on Sunday. I figured it might be my last chance to wear my white jeans this season! I know you can wear white jeans into fall and winter with the right pieces, but I’ve never managed to pull it off. I decided to try them with this magenta blouse that has been in my closet for a year and I’ve hardly worn.

I went for the “front tuck” with a white patent belt, and I think I like it! It’s hard to get used to tucking things in, if only in the front. The pumps are You By Crocs (yes, Crocs makes real shoes, not just plastic ones!!)

Pink Ruffle Blouse with White Jeans and Pumps

I wore this on Labor Day for our neighborhood get together. I decided I was tired of wearing shorts so I went for a casual skirt. I tend to forget about skirts. Weird, I know. This teal tee was from Old Navy last summer, and the gray skirt is a Banana Republic purchase from a few years ago. I was standing all day so I wore my Orthaheels, of course!

And the necklace was a gift from my friend Lisa at Studio Jewel.
