Fashion Over 40: Daily Mom Style 04.08.15

Welcome back to my weekly Fashion Over 40: Daily Mom Style post where I share what I wore this week and link up with other fabulous fashion bloggers around the web! And what a week it’s been. All of my outfits this week are quite summery because we spent the week in Scottsdale, Arizona for Spring Break.

We arrived late last Tuesday night, and on Wednesday I woke up and put on my favorite cut-offs and casual tank top. It was kind of crazy to go from 45 degree Philly morning temps to 75 in Scottsdale literally overnight!

The tank is from Old Navy. I always pick up a few of their tops for summer because they’re affordable and cute and comfy, and they tend to wash and wear well. The jeans shorts were a splurge a few years back — it was the summer I was training for a half marathon, and I was feeling quite svelte. I still wear them, even though I’m starting to think that I’m getting too old for cut-offs. I’m still in denial. The sandals are Orthaheels, and they are, bar-none, the most comfortable summer shoes I own. They make my feet so happy. So happy, in fact, that I just ordered two more pairs.

Later that day, I put on my swimsuit and coverup, and that’s what I wore almost every day afterwards. I don’t think I took another daytime casual outfit picture while I was there. I LOVE my new swimsuit from Title Nine with boy shorts. I even took a selfie in the room in case I got brave enough to post it.

What the heck. There’s a first time for everything. I didn’t get a picture of my other suits, but I have a similar one from Title Nine that I got last year. I may order a pair of boy shorts to go with that one.

That evening, before we realized how sick my son was going to get, we left him back at the hotel to rest and went on a tour we had pre-arranged at Taliesin West, Frank Lloyd Wright’s second home. We were supposed to go out to dinner afterwards (we never made it) so I put on this dressy shorts outfit. The top is from White House Black Market, and the shorts were from Ann Taylor last summer. The camera did weird things to the shirt. It is black and white, but it looks pink here. So strange.

Here’s a better shot of the top.

I ordered these Orthaheel Adelie sandals from Zappo’s before we left because I wanted a black sandal, and I love them. It is rare to find a sandal that fits my flat feet, but with these I can adjust the buckle to make them tighter.

I threw on this casual dress to go to dinner at the resort after our second full day there. I ordered it from Athleta last summer. The sandals are another new Orthaheel purchase. Yes, I splurged a bit, but I will live in these 3 pairs of sandals all summer long.

There were a few days where we didn’t take many pictures. We were just trying to get through the week. Oh, wait. I just found this one on my phone. I took a quick selfie before heading down to dinner with the girls one night. I just threw on this peach-colored tee (from LOFT last summer) and my old faithful denim bermuda shorts that I’ve had for probably 5 years.

On our last night at the resort, my son was finally feeling better so we all were able to dine together. This is a dress I picked up at the end of last summer before I went to Costa Rica and Turks & Caicos.

And that’s all I’ve got! I didn’t take any outfit pictures since I got home. I’m starting to feel more human today, and I hope to get back on track. While the weather here in Philly is still pretty dreary, it’s definitely starting to warm up, so I’m excited to start putting together spring outfits this week!

  1. Hi! I really enjoy your posts. Sorry about your vacation. It is hard when things happen outside of our control.
I wanted to know if you could tell me the name of the sandals in the picture with the cut off shorts. You said they were Orthaheels but I didn’t seem to be able to find them anywhere online. I have “difficult” feet and they look really cute, but well made and comfy as well.

  2. I’m really thinking I need to schedule myself a KOP mall trip so I can try on some orthoheel sandals. I’ll probably just scout for sales online, but I’d feel better knowing I’ve tried some on first.

  3. i love my orthaheel tide flip flops. I have had the 2 or 3 years. I just wish they offered all their sandals in wide. If they did, that’s probably all I would own!

  4. Hi there,

Thanks for the post. I was wondering what kind of bra you wear with an Old Navy tank? I am always self conscious of my straps showing. And camis aren’t always modest enough, when it gets chilly, if you know what I mean.

    Thank you.

    Sara

    1. They don’t show in that one. I try to only get tank tops with straps wide enough to cover the bra straps. I am sure they’re visible at times, but I am pretty mindful of keeping them covered. 🙂
