Fashion Friday: Black Stripes & Chambray

For Fashion Friday this week, I have another easy breezy mom-on-the-go outfit for you! I love it when tops have a layered look without the bulk. I got this top in my last Stitch Fix. The chambray hem and cuffs add interest, but they take the guesswork (and the bulk) out of layering.

Funny thing, I had this top on for a few hours before I realized the stripes were actually black, not navy blue. D’oh!! This is awesome, though, because now I can’t wait to try it with black ponte pants or leggings. I’m not sure it’s QUITE long enough to wear with leggings, but it will be adorable with black ponte pants. I’m sure I’ll be styling it that way in the near future.

For this outfit, I pulled on my darkest skinny jeans, and then I decided it needed something to jazz it up, so I added this statement necklace. I don’t wear larger necklaces that often, but I really like how this one works with this outfit.

Black Stripes & Chambray

Here’s a back view. I wore neutral ballet flats and carried this burgundy crossbody to add some fall color to the outfit.

These flats, you guys. I’ve been wearing them almost every day, but for some reason, they haven’t made it to the blog yet. I went ahead and ordered them after someone told me how incredibly comfortable they are. They weren’t lying! The leather on these is like butter, and the padded soles are like walking on clouds. There are over 700 reviews on the Nordstrom website saying basically the same thing. Mind you, there is no support in these, but the comfort for a ballet flat is outstanding.

They do run a little on the small size. I sometimes were size 8, but these are 8.5 and they are none too big, but I was afraid to try a 9, for fear I’d be walking out of them. Since the leather is so soft, they’re super comfortable, even though they’re a bit snug.

Since the sleeves on the top are 3/4-sleeves, bracelets are a must. I didn’t want to compete with the necklace, so I added a few smallish silver bangles. (And I swear, I ironed this shirt before I put it on. I guess I missed that cuff!)

This outfit is as comfortable and easy to throw on as a plain t-shirt and jeans, but the details on the shirt and the statement necklace make it stylish and fun.

  1. Jo-Lynne I loved your Fall Outfits during September. It was a great challenge. I adore this neutral and pretty look today. It is so polished. I love your striped top and that burgundy bag.

    Happy weekend my friend!!

P.S. Come join my link-up on Monday Oct 5th and Wednesday Oct 7th. Thanks.

  2. I love this top with the chambray! I like these Breton shirts, and this one with the chambray is super cute. I also own this Elodie silver necklace (got lucky on one occasion that S&D put it back on the site 🙂 BTW, Thank you for all the great outfits combinations of the Fall series.

    Have a great weekend!

  3. This is adorable! Love every piece and the bag just makes it. I adore those flats too. I’ve been wanting some for awhile but just can’t pull the trigger and buy them!

  4. Such a cute look. I agree with you about the bulk thing. Sometimes I look at photos of women wearing 3 to 4 layers and I think “My goodness if I wore that I’d be so uncomfortable, plus I’d look as plump as a snowman!” Love that top!

  5. I really like the whole outfit, but the top in particular! You’re too funny about the cuff having a little wrinkle in it. Things like that can be hard to catch all of the time. I appreciate you sharing that the ballet flats do not have any support. I hope that y’all are not getting hammered with rain like so many states along the East coast are! We are getting plenty of rain in GA! Have a great weekend!

    1. We are getting hammered, AND it’s my daughter’s birthday party tonight. Oh, well. We need the rain, and we just had a ton of plantings put into our front yard, so I’ll take it!

  6. Wait, you iron? LOL

Love it all. I don’t even know who I am anymore because I’m flirting with wearing stripes.

  7. That’s a great shirt. I like the look of layering with a button down shirt, but not the way it feels when I wear it. That would be the best of both worlds. 🙂

  8. How do you do ballet flats in the winter? Is that allowed? I’m also in Pa and it gets cold!!! Knee highs with them? Or just wear boots? I’ve been sending your emails to my husband telling him what to buy me for Christmas. 🙂

    1. Haha, I’m sure he loves that! LOL. I do wear ballet flats in the winter, but I do usually wear boots because. COLD. I don’t do knee highs, personally, but a textured knee-high might be cute. I would just rather wear boots. For me, ballet flats are 3-season shoes. 🙂

  9. I do LOVE the fashion posts! As well as everything else – but I just wanted to say, for what it’s worth, I miss the Weekly Meal Plan. 🙂

    1. Hey Kelly. You are the FIRST person to mention them. 🙂 I was wondering if anyone would notice they’re gone. I was paying my virtual assistant to put them together for the past year b/c I had lost interest and was rarely using them. I decided to quietly drop them and see if anyone missed them. They’re still all there in the archives. I wonder if there’s a way to go back through and use the ones I have and email one each week to people who want them. I’ll look into that.
