Fashion Over 40 | Daily Mom Style 05.14.14

fashion-over-40

Happy Hump Day, lovely ladies! (And gent. I think there may be one. Ha!) This is the day of the week that I share my daily outfits — the good, the bad and the ugly. As a busy mom, it’s so easy to fall into a style rut. We’ve probably all been there at certain times in our lives, yes?? The goal of this weekly feature is to stay up to date on current fashion trends and to share how a typical suburban mom puts it all together. Of course you know I try to keep it real, so you will see everything from glammed-up date-night outfits to my favorite activewear and everything in between. Shopping links are provided via my fine affiliate partners.

This here is a typical daytime outfit for me these days — Fabletics Bonita Pullover with their Rio Run Capri and my pink Nike tank. Both pieces from Fabletics were sent to me as a PR sample. I was so excited when they offered me few more of their pieces, especially now that I’m wearing activewear more often.

My neighbors were teasing me about “blinging out” my activewear, but I figure, why not!? This is the Stella & Dot Rebel Pendant. I adore it. I also wore my Demi Earrings. I don’t usually wear a lot of gold jewelry, and I’m enjoying it for a change.

I wore this next outfit one evening last week to my first Stella & Dot team meeting as a new stylist. White jeans are such a crisp look for spring, they are one of my favorite summer wardrobe staples. I’m surprised that some people still are on the fence about white jeans. If you’re unsure how to wear them or if you can pull them off (hint: yes, you can!) I wrote a post about how to wear white jeans a few weeks ago. Check it out.

I had a blast meeting my S&D team and seeing all of the spring and summer collection live and in color. *swoon*

Of course I had to wear one of my new Stella & Dot pieces. This Elodie Necklace is one I’ve had my eye on for months, so I took this opportunity to add it to my accessory wardrobe. (I got a little sunburn on my chest while I was chaperoning my daughter’s 5th grade class field trip at a park earlier that day.)

I built the outfit around the necklace. This teal tank is old, and I thought it worked well with my khaki glam jacket from White House Black Market and white jeans. I wore my Cole Haan Milly Wedge Pumps in sandstone for comfort, and also because I love a nude shoe with white jeans.

And then, just like that! It was shorts weather.

This has been such a weird spring. But I woke up on Saturday, pulled on a sweatshirt and yoga pants, and then by 9am I realized it was warm enough for shorts and short sleeves. I dug out my old faithful denim rolled cuff bermuda shorts (similar) and paired them with this medallion tee from the Gap (last year.) I broke out my Orthaheel Mia Sandals for the first time this spring. I forgot how comfy these are.

I took the opportunity to wear my Studio Jewel Blue Gemstone Earrings, a gift from my friend Lisa. I love these for a casual daytime earring. I also wore my Stella & Dot You Are My Sunshine Necklace, which I find myself wearing often with casual outfits. It’s very sweet.

I wore this outfit for Mother’s Day. I’ve been anxious to break out my navy-and-white striped maxi dress (from the LOFT last spring), and it was finally warm enough! The morning was still on the cooler side so I wore my faithful denim jacket. For shoes, I wore my Romy Wedge Sandals because I knew I wouldn’t be doing a lot of walking. They are so very cute, but not kind to my feet. For someone without foot issues, I think they are quite comfortable for a wedge sandal. But for me, I have to wear them sparingly.

My featured accessory was the orange Tory Burch Logo Leather Wrap Bracelet. I love navy and orange together, and I had my nails painted a bright orange so it just made sense. (Yes, I think about these things!) Once I decided on that accessory, I built the rest around that. I layered on a few more shiny gold bracelets – basically every piece I could find in my jewelry box, lol. I waffled a bit over what to wear for a necklace and finally settled on the Stella & Dot Rebel Pendant.

I could have gone with my neutral gray bag, but I thought the green made a nice contrast against the navy and orange. You can’t see my earrings, but they are largish gold hoops, also a recent S&D purchase.

Later in the day when it was warmer, I removed the denim jacket. And you can actually see my earrings in this picture.

This is what I wore to work from home and go to PT on Monday.

comfy-casual

The top is old. I ordered it online at Amazon.com last summer when I wanted some modest tank tops. The bottoms are, once again, my Rio Run Capris from Fabletics. And the sneakers (Asics GEL-Noosa Tri 8) were a press sample that I ended up running my half-marathon in. I have resorted to wearing them again for everyday because they are so comfy.

Finally. My newest accessory. The Boot.

The Boot

Isn’t it stylish? I hope to start a new trend. Yeah, about that.

So my foot is fried. I stopped running AGAIN and it is still getting progressively worse. So. It is a boot for me. This is what I wore to the doctor, not knowing I’d be leaving in a boot.

This black embellished tee is from the LOFT, probably two years ago. It’s still one of my summer faves. And the old faithful cuffed jeans shorts make another appearance. They’re easy to fall back on. I wore my Tory Burch logo bracelet again and my S&D gold hoops.

  1. My favorite outfit you wore this week is the navy striped maxi dress! Love how you styled it with the jean jacket and fun jewelry! I was in one of those boots last summer with a torn ligament in my foot from running. Hope your foot heals soon so you don’t have to wear that boot for too long!

  2. Love all your outfits – especially the maxi dress and the bright accessories you paired with it. I feel your pain with that boot (no pun intended) – and I hope you heal very quickly and can put all this injury behind you once and for all! I’ve been dealing with two stress fractures this past year and the current one is in my foot. I miss running (a lot), but I miss being able to keep up with my kids even more. The boot was very helpful for me while I was in it last month. I hope it is for you, too! (And if anyone can rock a boot as a fashion accessory, it’s you!)

  3. I’m sure you’ve done your research, but please be careful of the boot. It weakened my foot beyond repair.
    Also, love the Loft dress!

  4. You look great, even with the boot. I love the Stella and dot Jewelry how fun is the necklace. Also I enjoyed how you paired Studio Jewels pieces with the great tee/tank with the white blue.

  5. So, although I have bought a ton of clothes I’ve seen in your posts (need to pull out that LOFT dress), I think I’ll stay away from the boot, lol!

  6. I love seeing your outfits every week! What is your opinion on maxi skirts that are see through in the sunlight? I only mean shadow see through not flesh or underwear see through. I have a few maxi skirts and they are all somewhat shadow see through in the sunlight and I’m just not sure what other women think of that. I have the option of wearing a slip but who does that under a maxi skirt? It wouldn’t feel the same. Is seeing only shadow okay, is it a personal preference, or a no-no?? Please give me your thoughts!

    1. Yeah, I know what you mean. It’s not ideal. I guess I would say try to buys maxi skirts that are thick enough or dark enough for that not to be a problem. It really depends on your personal comfort level, I guess, but I definitely would prefer not to see the outline of the legs through the skirt.

  7. What a fun roundup (minus the boot! Sorry to hear!). Obsessed with that necklace — I also would have built an outfit around it!! — and I’m dying to try FabAthletics. How does it compare to others? Curious about the stretch factor of the capris… does it hold in while being flexible? Does that even make sense? 🙂

    1. I really like the feel of the Fabletics capris. The first ones I ordered got a small hole in the crotch so she suggested that I need a large, so I did a large this time. They feel good except they probably should fit tighter under the knee. Still, they are super comfy.

  8. love ALL the looks…as always. My denim bermudas are my favs/lovies. Really love the white denim..especially with that S&D necklace.
Hope you have a great week girl
