fashion over 40 #ootd

Y’all. This has been A Week. It’s truly amazing I have ANY outfits worth posting. Yes, I realize they all follow a typical theme of skinny jeans with some type of long-sleeve mid-season top. I really wanted to wear a dress/skirt on Sunday to change things up a bit, but it was cold and rainy, and I was in no mood. This is real life, though. Most of us do settle in to some sort of uniform because we know it works, and I’m okay with that!

With that disclaimer, here is what I wore this week. And as usual, I am using affiliate links to share the items that are still available for purchase. Just so’s ya know.

Here’s an evolution of an outfit for ya. The first picture is my attempt at looking cute: red skinny jeans {similar}, navy and white striped tee {similar}, CAbi cropped denim jacket {similar}, ballet flats and simple silver jewelry (Studio Jewel.)

Then I realized, Hey, it’s raining!

Hunter Boots with Red Jeans and Denim Jacket

So I put on my Hunter rain boots. MUCH more comfortable. I scored mine on Shopbop when they were on 25% off sale, but it’s rare for them to go on sale. With all the rain we’ve had this year, I have definitely been glad I made the investment. Plus, the are super comfy on my finicky feet.

I wore that outfit to a doctor appointment, and then when I got home, I decided that the jean jacket wasn’t practical for wearing around the house so I switched into this lightweight navy cardigan.

So yeah, that was one day. LOL!! I love navy and white and red together. It’s so classy. And the gray rainboots definitely worked.

This next outfit I wore on a mild day. I’m trying out my new Dansko Sophie sandals. I will be honest, I don’t love how they look, but they are incredibly comfortable and I’ve been advised by my doctor to only wear supportive daily footwear if I’m going to heal my foot. I’m hoping they look cute with shorts and casual dresses/skirts for summertime.

stripes

I wore them with cuffed jeans and this Vida Striped Top that is no longer available, although you can find it on eBay. I wore just a simple necklace (Stella & Dot, old) and thin silver bracelet.

Ella Moss Vida Striped Top

I forget where I wore this. I think it was to a school function? I wanted an excuse to wear my mint jeans, and I love the combination of them with this coral/taupe/ivory striped sweater by Splendid. I wore my Milly wedge pumps for comfort, and because I like how the sandstone color compliments this outfit. I know this is a spendy outfit, but I did get the jeans and shoes on sale, and it’s something you could easily replicate at any price point.

pastels for spring

The necklace is Stella & Dot {old} and the bracelet stack is from LOFT.

I wore this outfit to church on Sunday. It was chilly so I was looking for something warm, yet springy. This coral embellished cardi seemed like just the thing. It’s from Banana Republic, a few years back. I wore it over a cream tank and paired them with my khaki moto jeans {similar}.

The green bag seemed like the perfect compliment to the coral. I decided to forego a necklace since the sweater has so much embellishment, and instead I added big, blingy earrings and a bracelet (both from Francesca’s.)

I know some of you will say I make it look easy, and I know this outfit isn’t really anything ground-breaking, but it did take me some time to pull it together. The “formula”, if you will… neutral pants with a colorful sweater with embellishment, bold earrings, neutral shoe, and a great bag in a contrasting color (or I could have carried a brown or white or beige bag as well.)

Incidentally, you don’t need to break the bank for a great bag. In fact, thredUP is now offering designer handbags!!! This is my referral link, and once you sign up with thredUP, you immediately get $10 to spend PLUS you get your own referral link to use to share about thredUP with your friends. Every time a friend signs up and makes her first purchase, you get $10 to spend. It’s a pretty sweet deal!

This was my casual Saturday outfit. We went shopping and took the kids to a movie: Muppets Most Wanted. It was a cute flick. Trying to be kind to my feet, I wore my Ecco Biom Lite Flow Toggle sneakers.

I tried to change up my typical camo jeans and denim jacket outfit with a magenta V-neck tee. This is the Timeless V-Neck from Banana Republic. It has a nice, thick fabric that is flattering and washes up well. I highly recommend these for a basic tee. The necklace is from Ten Thousand Villages. I thought it filled the V-neck nicely.

And another super casual outfit…. I wore this to chaperone my daughter’s field trip to a local park yesterday. I just wore a gray tee with medium-wash jeans that I cuffed for the fun of it. I wore this pink cardi (Banana Republic, old) for color (and warmth — it was chilly during the morning hours) and my Mizunos. I knew we’d be hiking and standing all day and I need the support. I wore my NEW You Are My Sunshine necklace and Lakin Teardrops earrings from Stella & Dot. I’m hosting an online trunk show, and it’s open for two more weeks, if you care to shop, CLICK HERE! Think graduation gifts, teacher gifts, Mother’s Day gifts…. there are so many gorgeous accessories to choose from! Let me know if you ever need help or advice on what to order.

  1. I love the outfits you’re featuring…especially those grey hunter rain boots! I have the same pair, and I adore them! xo

  2. I think everyone has a typical uniform. The fun is how you change it up day to day! All of your outfits look great! My favorite is the coral and mint – I love this color combo!

  3. I also struggle with plantar fasciitis. For sandals, I have found that Orthaheel brand are awesome and they have several cute styles. I can’t find many locally, but order most online from Zappos, QVC, Footsmart, etc. They don’t have many heels or wedges, but for flat sandals, you can’t beat them. They also sell orthotics in a slim-fit that I wear in all my regular flats. HTH.

  4. I love the zipper detail on that denim jacket and the colors on that beaded cardigan are so eye-catching. I got my Hunter boots about a month or so ago and I love them!

  5. I love how you styled the colored jeans! And I have never thought about doing the boyfriend jeans cuffed with the sneakers, casual and stylish, I will have to try it today.

  6. I need to get some colored/patterned jeans. I love your first outfit; it’s so nautical. I also think that the navy/coral striped top is adorable.

  7. I seriously wore the same outfit as you (with the red pants) though I’ll admit, I didn’t have the necessary Hunter boots and I’m seriously thinking it may be time to bite the bullet and snag a pair!

  8. I was looking at Dansko sandals last night. I got a new job and I’m on my feet – A Lot. I feel like I need to get something more comfortable. I can dress casually, like everyday wear, so I thought about buying them. I only hesitated due to the comments saying how narrow they are. Do you find them narrow? I don’t have a wide foot. Most importantly, are they comfortable.

Love your outfits. I really like the red, white, and blue outfit and the one with the camo jeans.

  9. You mentioned that you don’t like how your Sophie sandals look…I think they’re fine & HAVE to say that I understand the comfort thing! I am 40 & find that I really have o be careful what shoes I wear. I’m really wanting those new Reebok Skyscapes! LOVE your outfits, especially your casual looks. It’s so nice to see those. 🙂

  10. I really like the Dansko Sophie sandals. I, too, need a supportive shoe/sandal, so I might be checking those out at my local stores. I can’t wear a shoe that’s too flat. So, don’t fret — it looks good to me!

  11. I share you “pain” with regard to foot issues. I find that a bigger pain is finding a CUTE comfortable shoe at a somewhat reasonable price. I wanted to recommend the Orthaheel brand – I have found many cute styles and they are very supportive and comfortable. My latest find is a sequined flip flop that is too fun! Thank you for all of your style inspiration – I love reading your blog!

  12. You have such a great eye for color & coordinating accessories without it being too much; not an easy feat!
I think my favorite part of this whole week is your manicure on Sunday … that is so classy of you to match your manicure to your outfit! I swoon.
I need to spruce up my shoe wardrobe before I go back to college this Fall; wish I had your style sensibility to aid me!!
