Fashion Over 40 New Year’s Edition

Holy cow, y’all, it is 2014. I hope everyone had a lovely New Year’s Eve, whether you stayed at home in your jammies or painted the town red.

We divided our time between two house parties and rung in the new New Year right here in our neighborhood, which was so nice. I love being able to walk home after a party, especially when it’s late. I am proud to say that I made it to midnight without a nap and without falling asleep in the punch, so it’s all good. I’m usually in bed by 9pm so it’s quite a feat when I made it to midnight and don’t turn into a pumpkin.

Somehow I only have four outfits to share this week. Not sure how that happened, but anyway. It’s been kind of a lazy week with the kids off from school. Anyway, here’s a few casual daytime looks and then how I did Fashion Over 40 for New Year’s Eve!

Fashion Over 40 | Daily Mom Style

DAY 1

I wore my Hue Ultra Wide Waistband Leggings with my gray Cowl Neck French Terry Tunic one of those lazy days after Christmas. I must have gone somewhere because I had my handbag with me, but I can’t remember where. The Hue Ultra Wide Waistband Leggings are FANTASTIC. I ordered them after Sheaffer over on Pinterest Told Me To announced that they are one of her Must Have items. I have learned to trust her advice, and she was spot on with these. They have a nice, wide waistband that prevents any embarrassing muffin top, and they are nice and thick. There is NOTHING worse than see-through leggings, can I get an amen?? Plus, at $36 they won’t break the bank. Score!!!!

The Style & Co. Cowl Neck French Terry Tunic is only $31.99 at Macy’s, and right now you can get an additional 15% off with the code NYEAR. Go forth and shop!!! I love mine. I bought a medium, and I have put it through the dryer, and it is still long enough to cover the important parts that you must cover when you wear leggings. For more on how to wear leggings, see the post my friend Grace wrote.

The Kate Spade New York Southport Avenue Linda Tote is no longer available anywhere except eBay; I scored it on a huge 75%-off sale on Black Friday.

I wore my Tara M. Tiffany Ankle Boots. They are so so comfy, and since they are a bit bulky, they help balance out the tunic top. For accessories, this Stella & Dot C Pendant helps break up the expanse of gray, and I threw on these blue Joseph Nogucci bracelets. They were sent to me as a sample.

Alrighty then, let’s move this bus along, shall we?

DAY 2

I wore this outfit to run errands with the kids last weekend. The Cable Knit Cowl Neck Pullover in Saucy Red is now on sale for $79.99 PLUS 40% off with the code BRNEWYR40. This code is good for TODAY ONLY so don’t wait too long!!! This is such a great sweater for winter . . . thick enough to be warm, but not bulky, and the cable detail on the cowl is such a nice touch! It also comes in black and light heather gray.

The gray cords are as old as the hills (an expression I get from my mom, and I can’t resist throwing it in there whenever I get a chance) and so are the Dansko boots. So. I can’t give you any product links for those.

The earrings are from Studio Jewel. They were a gift from my friend Lisa eons ago, and they are still some of my favorites. I scored the Kate Spade Harbour Stripe Bangle on eBay for $29.

It was a mild day weather-wise, so I took the opportunity to dust off my black leather jacket, and I carried my Dooney & Bourke Croco Lexington Shopper.

DAY 3

I wore this outfit to church on Sunday and then to host my husband’s family Christmas celebration for 20. The black cords are old, and the Halogen cashmere sweater is from Nordstrom last year. They always seem to have a stock of these, though. I stood in these Cole Haan Air Milly Wedge Pumps all day and survived. I don’t wear them often, but they were a great investment. And they are STILL 25% off at Nordstrom.

The Michael Kors Chain Bracelet Watch was a Christmas present from my husband, and the bracelets are another set that was sent to me from Joseph Nogucci. These Murano Charm Bracelets seriously look just like Pandora bracelets, and they are a fraction of the price.

DAY 4

Finally . . . New Year’s Eve! Phew! For only having 4 outfits to show for this week, this post sure is getting long.

I always feel so victorious when I shop my closet and don’t spend a dime on a special occasion outfit. Everything in this look is old except the bag and the watch! Oh wait, and the earrings. I picked those up at Francesca’s a few weeks ago and thought I would never wear them. I even saved the receipt planning to return them and then last night I was like, OH! PERFECT! So, see? You just never know.

This top is from the Gap several years ago. I love it because it’s festive but also comfy. The black cords are the same ones I wore on Sunday. The necklace is also quite old; I have no idea where I got it. The bracelet set was from Express a few holiday seasons ago.

The Brasilia Crossbody from Baggallini is always a great bag for those events when you don’t need to carry the kitchen sink. I love the subtle animal print texture.

Here we are, ready for our New Year’s Eve festivities. My husband ended up with this ridonkulous hat at our White Elephant gift exchange, and he insisted on wearing it last night. I will offer no further commentary except to say, that hat WILL disappear. Today.

  1. You and your husband are so cute together. His hat is a little fun, buy hey, kuddos to him for rocking it!

Hope you and your family enjoy a wonderful year ahead filled with happiness and unexpected blessings.

  2. Nice outfits! I always love your style!! I really like the Style & Co. tunic, but they only have it in black. What color leggings would you suggest to wear with the black? I have black leggings, but I think that would be too much. Colored and patterned leggings are out of the question.
Happy New Year to you and your family!

  3. You look absolutely SPARKLING in the red sweater picture! Red is obviously your color, but you just look positively glowing. Happy New Year!
