Daily Mom Style: 30 Days of Outfits {Week 4}

daily-mom-style-featured-image

This week has been a tough one, wardrobe wise. We’re nearing the end of my 30 Days of Outfits challenge, and while it was supposed to be fun, it’s proven to be a bit stressful, which I know is ridiculous — to be stressed over outfits, particularly when I don’t go anywhere fancier than the baseball field and the grocery store. But between trying not to repeat outfits and trying not to wear the same shorts every other day, and add to that my finicky feet that really need to be shod in sneakers 24/7, it’s hard to come up with new outfits that I actually want to wear. I haven’t had the occasion to wear my cuter dress-up clothes as often as I’d like, and my casual clothes are pretty plain. All that to say, I guess there is a reason why I tend to wear the same few outfits over and over. They work, and once you have something that works, it’s easy to throw it on and be done with it.

I guess this goes back to the article about how to ditch the yoga pants and dress like a French woman — they invest in a few key pieces and they wear them over and over. There’s nothing wrong with that. I am glad, though, that this little challenge has caused me to wear a few things that I think I’d probably have otherwise overlooked.

With that said, here’s what I’ve got. I do not love all of these looks, but I went ahead and recorded them to stay true to the challenge. Tell me what you think.

30 Days of Outfits {Days 20-26}

Day 20: Black tank and cuffed jean shorts with silver sandals and black-and-white striped tote. A few years ago, I would have worn this outfit (yes, this exact one, lol — I’ve had those jean shorts and that tank for years) two or three days a week during the summertime, and a variation on this outfit almost every day. I actually have three of these Timeless Tanks in black, and then I have it in about five other colors as well. No lie. I am a plain jane at heart.

Since doing these posts every week and trying to introduce some variety into my wardrobe, I try to resort to this look less and less, but some days it’s just nice to throw on something that is comfortable and clean and neat, and while it’s not making any great fashion statement, you know it works.

I did make an effort to put on some accessories — this long necklace from Studio Jewel and a blue and green beaded bracelet from Everyday Icing. pardon the blurry picture. These indoor photos are done on a timer and it doesn’t always know where to focus. It’s so weird, since the one above was done the exact same way. Oh well…

Day 21: Essential short-sleeve T with dark jeans and a statement necklace, pink t-strap sandals and a pink crossbody bag. I wore this outfit to go to the movies with a friend. I wanted to wear the necklace, and I couldn’t repeat the outfit when I wore it with the coral shorts I bought it with so I figured I can’t go wrong with white and denim. Love how crisp and clean and simple it is, and then the necklace and the shoes/bag make it fun! I got the necklace at the J.Crew Factory outlet, by the way. I’ve had several people ask. I don’t see that exact one online, but they have lots of pretty fashion jewelry at good prices. The little bag is by Hobo Int’l. I picked it up on the clearance table at Nordstrom a few years ago. And the sandals are Lucky Brand.

Day 22a: coral banded-waist sleeveless top from Old Navy (last year) with cuffed Joe’s Jeans shorts (yes, again) and brown embellished sandals (similar)

I wore this to run errands on Saturday and take my kids to the mall. The necklace is Studio Jewel, the bracelet is JanMary Designs, and the ring is CS Designs. Haha.

My daughter is obsessed with the Rainbow Loom and is making all sorts of bracelets and rings so I’ve dubbed her little business CS Designs.

That night, I changed my top and shoes to go to a minor league baseball game with the family. I needed to wear sneakers for the support, and I wanted to wear the pink Phillies cap. I couldn’t deal with the clash of coral and pink, so I changed tops. Don’t judge me.

Day 22b: gray striped tank (old) with cuffed jean shorts (also old) and my new Puma sneakers (a Puma Outlet purchase). I carried the same crossbody as the night before — it’s perfect for occasions like this when you don’t want to worry with a handbag.

Day 23: White jeans with coral and white tie-dye cami and coral cardi. This is the first time I’ve worn this outfit this season, and I got a ton of compliments on it. I just love the tie-dye cami. The necklace and earrings (which you probably can’t see) are Stella & Dot, and the bracelet is from Everyday Icing. These wedge sandals are my go-to summer heels. They are so incredibly comfy. They’re Stuart Weitzman’s that I got on a super deal at 6pm.com several years ago! And of course that’s my famous green bag, lol.

Okay, so you know this is real life I’m living here, right? I apologize in advance for this outfit, but I had a strength workout at 11am, right smack dab in the middle of my day. So I threw my cut-offs in the car and wore my athletic shorts for my workout and changed before heading to the outlet mall with my girls. Yes, I wore this outfit to go shopping in all my sweaty workout glory. I didn’t have time to go home and shower and change and I needed a few things for my trip this week.

Day 24: Tech Tee from the Mom 2.0 CVS Minute Clinic sponsored 5K with cut-offs and Saucony Kinvara sneakers (provided by a FitFluential campaign with Saucony). The cap is to cover my bed head.

Don’t be thrown off by the neon sneakers. I didn’t have a choice of color, but these come in some cool color combos if you’re in the market for stylish sneakers. They’re also incredibly comfortable, so much so that I have taken to wearing them as much as I can around the house in an effort to allow my PF to heal. They’re much lighter and more breathable than the Pumas that I’ve been wearing.

Day 25: Gray & white striped v-neck tee with aqua shorts (J.Crew Factory) and silver sandals.

stripes

I actually wore my ugly pink Crocs flips with this outfit while I was at home but put on the sandals when I ran out to do a few errands because I’m vain. Since babying my feet, my plantar fasciitis has improved so YAY! I’m not sure I love the gray & white tee with these shorts, but I was trying to wear something other than the white tee that I wore with them earlier in the month. I love colored shorts and pants, but I struggle with what to wear with them other than neutrals. Maybe I need to do an outfit evolution post on that!

I don’t know where Day 26 is. I think one day I ended up wearing my workout gear all day after a training session. Gross, right? But I do have 2 outfits on Day 22 so I guess I will still get to my 30 by June 30th!

  1. Girlfriend I am a tank and shorts girl all through the summer and when I find a tank I like I buy it in every color they have. LOL! In fact my favorite out fit right now are those exact shorts, my black tank and either my Tommy Hilfiger flip flops or my Yellow Box flip flops. But it’s always ALWAYS flip flops in the summer.
    I think you look great so don’t sweat it. *smile*
    Have a great day.

  2. I am a “plain dresser”. I Have way more solid or stipes in my closet than I do prints, on tops or bottoms. And I tend to buy neutrals all the time too. I like solids and stripes though, then I like using jewelry and accessories to change it up.

    At least that’s what I tell myself! 🙂

  3. Man, that outfit with the white jeans is KILLER — love that blouse combination!! I’d wear that a lot. I do think the layering of tissue tee material is so flattering to larger chested women. I’m glad I didn’t do that 30-day thing. If you’re finding it challenging, I don’t know WHAT I’d be — mentally incapacitated!! by the end of 30 days!! Congrats on finishing!

  4. Love the coral and white cami/cardi! Care to share where those were purchased?:) Love this series, makes me think twice about accessorizing before I leave the house.

  5. Love the outfit with the white jeans – gorgeous. And, I actually like the neon sneakers…that whole outfit is just super-casual and fun.

    Sorry your feet are giving you problems. I know that hard and it throws everything off when you aren’t feeling good. Hope they return to normal soon.

    1. Thanks! Since wearing shoes AROUND THE CLOCK – the Crocs flip flops are life savers, I even traveled in them today – I am doing better. Still not great, but manageable, and with the mileage I’m trying to do, I’m happy with manageable. 🙂

  6. Love all of your outfits, especially the mint shorts at the end. Your tie-dye coral outfit looks really clean and put together tool I found your blog from WIWW, and I’m excited to follow all of your future adventures!

    P.S. I just started a blog and joined the cool kids club. I’d love for you to swing by and leave me a comment with some feedback! Thank you so much.

  7. I admire that you are putting in the effort to not repeat outfits! I tend to wear the same things over and over as well. Most of my wardrobe is staple items I can change up with accessories too….I like it that way and it works. I got the brilliant idea I needed more color and patterns and now realize I added a lot of stripes. Love them but it is overload! I really like how you keep your wardrobe reasonable and it is “real”. I think a lot of us look the same way! Thanks!!!

  8. I love your outfits and how honest you are (listen, anyone who says that they have never ran errands in all her own “sweaty workout glory” is lying! Lol. Your 30 days is such a great idea! Maybe I will do a plus size version of this on my blog. Love your blog!
