Daily Mom Style 10.23.12

It’s been QUITE a week around here! I’ve been out and about almost every day. But I’ve decided that when you have a dog that needs to be walked every day, you simply must wear a practical shoe. Since I’ve been going places this week, I have a lot of cute outfits to show you, but when I’m at home, I’m in yoga pants and sneakers. It’s just more practical given this new doggie owner lifestyle I’ve suddenly been thrust into.

I’ve always said that I see nothing wrong with wearing sweats or yoga pants around the house as long as they are cute and fit well, so last week I went shopping and picked up a few more pieces to add to my rotation. Don’t be surprised if they pop up now and then on these Daily Mom Style posts!

day 1

I wore this outfit traveling home from NYC last week. I wanted to be comfortable, and I already had these jeans and boots packed so I just threw in this striped banded-waist top for the trip home.

This is one of my new tops. I picked this up at the Oakley Factory Outlet last week. I spotted it through the open doorway when I was wandering through the shops, and I stopped in and picked this up as well as a couple other casual pieces to pair with yoga pants for those days when I don’t have anywhere exciting to go but I don’t want to look like a total schlump.

This top is another outlet purchase — from the LOFT. I put it over a gray tank and wore it with my dark skinny jeans and black suede loafers. It’s just a casual, easy outfit for running the soccer mom taxi. I added a necklace for the fun of it.

I wore this on Saturday to Wyebrook Farm for lunch on the lawn. It was a crisp, cool autumn day and I wanted to be comfortable but still cute. I love this hooded zip-up sweater from Athleta with my tan cords. However, I do not love these shoes with this outfit. I need something similar in brown or tan, I think.

This necklace came from Noonday Collection — a social selling company that creates jobs for people in developing countries. I’ll be telling you more about it tomorrow, but I am loving my new necklace. It’s a great conversation piece. I wore it on this black sweater (from a promotion I did with Nordstrom Rack last winter) and my green skinny jeans. I this this outfit would be cuter with heels, but I decided to keep it casual with pointy-toe black flats.

I wore the outfit again the next night to my PSMM Workshop, this time with a scarf I picked up at the LOFT Factory Outlet last week. I’m not sure which way I like it best. What do you think!?

Then I wore this to volunteer at my girls’ elementary school and then to the mall to pick up a few things for our trip to Disney World later this week. This Calvin Klein sweater also came from Nordstrom Rack, and I like to wear it over this loden green tank with my Silpada mixed-metal necklace. I wore my bronze ballet flats from Aldo and carried my new Fossil Vintage Revival Satchel in Espresso.

I don’t know about this sweater; I think I might be over it. I always think it’s going to be cuter than it is when I see it in photos. I always feel like I have to suck my gut in, and it pulls funny across the chest area. I like the IDEA of it, but it never seems to fit quite right. Do you ever feel that way about an item in your wardrobe? It might be time to retire it.

That’s what I’ve got this week! I’m going to be pretty casual next week, stay tuned for my Disney edition of Daily Mom Style!

  1. My favorite is the green skinnies and black shirt with necklace. That black shirt looks like it would be super comfy! But on to what REALLY matters… did I see you mention Disney?!? I LOOOVE Disney and just booked our trip for January so I am in (obsessed) planning mode. Where are you staying? What are you doing? Hopefully there’s a blog post with details to follow 🙂

  2. Ok. it’s really funny that you mention retiring the CK sweater because when I first saw the picture I thought “that’s a really flattering top on you”! I think that length looks great on you, so if it were me I wouldn’t retire it just yet. Of course, that’s just my two cents 😉

BTW, I love you’re style posts. I get lots of inspiration and great outfit ideas. I am wearing skinny jeans today because of you 🙂

  3. I know you have mentioned before but can you tell me which of the athletica yoga pants you wear? Last year I tried to buy and they were out of them:(. Too many on their site to choose from:)

    1. I can’t remember. One is an organic cotton salamba (sp?) pant, and the other is more of a yoga pant. one was on sale and is no longer avail – not sure which. I think you can’t go wrong with any of their pants, though.

  4. Jo-Lynne, You look “Mavlous Daulink” ! I love the fact that you have mentioned wearing the same outfit twice, just like the Duchess of Cambridge Catherine (Middleton)who also has been seen wearing an outfit twice, who also picks affordable classic styles that really reasonate with people in this struggling economy ! God Bless Your “Your Little Pea-Pickin Heart” !

  5. We are thinking about a trip to Italy next summer. That means lots of walking, possibly on cobblestone streets. Can’t wait to see your shoes choices for Disney. Have fun!

    1. I am not happy at all with my shoe options. I wanted to get a new pair, and I did shop, but didn’t find what I wanted. I am resorting to my well worn Privos. They are cute, but green, so don’t always go with everything.

      1. I’ve just found your blog and I shall look again.
On the shoe thing – In the outfit with the white hoody and the green shoes. Get a green cami, or t-shirt, matching the shoes, to replace the blue one; it would pull the whole thing together intstanta. I don’t know about you, but finding shoes is far harder than finding tops!

  6. I also liked the CK sweater with the jeans. It was a cute look. I am still struggling with the skinny jeans thing. I have tried some on but don’t like the way they look on me (petite, size 2, hippy with narrow shoulders, and big feet). I still really like the looseness of boot cut on my lower legs and I like them almost touching the floor. I may try straight leg, but I can’t wait for the skinny jean style to pass. Maybe it’s a personal problem : ).
