Daily Mom Style 02.26.14

YOU GUYS! An entire week without boots! WOOO! Okay, well, there are a couple days I wore ankle boots, so I guess there’s that. But still. I feel like I’ve crawled out of hibernation this week. There is still snow on the ground, but not nearly as much as we had this time last week, and I can actually walk outside without fear of slipping on ice, so it’s all good.

I wore this outfit on Friday night to take my daughter to an event at the high school. I just wore a long-sleeve red tee from Banana Republic with a black cardigan, also from BR. Both are old and no longer available, but I am a huge fan of this BR Timeless Tee. They always have some variation on it, and I have them in long-sleeve, short-sleeve and sleeveless versions. Nice and thick, fitted but not too tight, the perfect tee. Truly.

I dug out this old Orla Kiely handbag. It was just the right size for bringing into a crowded school auditorium. Sometimes you don’t want a bag that requires its own seat, ya know? I still love this whimsical print. It’s as old as the hills, but I can’t bring myself to part with it. The mixed metal necklace is from Studio Jewel – always one of my faves.

I wore this outfit around one day last week. It was mild enough that I didn’t need a coat, so I grabbed my puffer vest that was sent to me as a sample from Goodnight Macaroon.

I wore it over this hot pink tee with my moto jeans and Tara M. Tiffany ankle boots.

Saturday was another mild day. I wore this outfit out shopping with my girls. I always love wearing my GAP camo skinny jeans. Unfortunately they only have coral available now, although those are cute too. Or try these camo jeans from Old Navy. I just kept it simple with a long-sleeve black tee and my CAbi cropped denim jacket.

I started with the same Orla Kiely bag from the night before and my Taos Untold ballet flats. I even had my husband take  pictures of the whole ensemble. Also note the orange TB Logo Leather Wrap Bracelet. LOVE!!! I know it’s a big spendy, but it was a Christmas gift from my mom, gotta love that. And the MK Bracelet Watch was a Christmas gift from my husband. He did score it for 25% off at Macy’s. If you wait, his watches occasionally go on sale.

Right before we left the house, I decided to switch to this coral bag and my TOMS desert booties. I haven’t had a chance to wear these booties in weeks due to all the snow and slush, and I knew they would be comfortable to walk around in — actually, more so than the ballet flats, even though I bought them for comfort. I think a wedge is kinder to my temperamental tootsies.

As for the change of bag, I just thought the pop of color was nice. I know, I’m certifiable. As I said to my neighbor who I saw outside on my way out, it’s a bit overkill for the mall, but I was dying to get dressed up and feel human again!!!! Oh, the necklace was a Stella & Dot find on eBay.

This was my casual Monday outfit. I just got inserts for these sneakers, and they are so comfortable that I felt like wearing them all day. Which was really a waste of a good outfit day because on Tuesday I had PT and had to wear sneakers anyway. Oh well.

That’s the same puffer vest but this time with my favorite Athleta yoga pants and teal hoodie. Check out this closeup for the detail on the teal top (another Christmas gift from my mom . . . I’m pulling them all out this week!!) So cute, right? The earrings are Stella & Dot (old).

Finally, I wore this to church on Sunday. Everything in this outfit except the bracelet is old and no longer available, SORRY!! But if you like it, you can take the idea and shop your closet, yes?? I was still feeling springish and the green jeans seemed like the perfect thing. I wore my dolman-sleeve black sweater (purchased at Nordstrom Rack thru a sponsored shopping haul) and black wedge pumps (Aldo).

I almost wore a necklace and then I spotted this lightweight green scarf so I threw that on instead. Since I love green and coral together, I wore my new Stella & Dot Sardinia Bracelet and carried the coral handbag. (Before you ask, the bag is super old. I picked it up at the Kate Spade Factory Outlet Store many moons ago.)

If you like the green jeans, here are some similar options. It is a fun color for spring! Or, consider these legging jeans from GAP in mint. Pastels are hot for 2014. In fact, I’m starting to feel like my bright jeans are looking dated. Boohoo, I love them, but I think I’ll be moving towards softer tones this year.

  1. Love your casual chic style Jo-Lynne. The green jeans look great too, I’ll be hunting down a pair here in London! Bring on summer 🙂

    1. LOL, thank you! It is getting thicker, I have no idea why, but I am so happy. I was worried there for a while, I even wrote about how badly it was thinning and how upsetting it was. But it must have been something hormonal b/c it’s better now.

  2. Super cute outfits! I love that you look stylish and are still dressed to be a mom on the go! I have three boys, so I know that busy feeling pretty well. I challenged myself to get dressed in real clothes, not just sweats, and this was my first week to join WIWW. Such fun! Hope you have a great week!

  3. All the way from New Zealand, I just want to say how much I love looking at your posts for inspiration. So stylish, yet practical! It’s getting cooler here now and all the winter clothes are begin in to appear in the stores. I will certainly be on the lookout for a puffer vest. my seemingly lifelong goal of ‘accessorising’ will be on the shopping list too!

  4. I just stumbled onto your blog a couple days ago when I was looking for a way to wear my TOMS desert wedge booties (which I absolutely LOVE btw). Let me just say that I love your blog. You are such an inspiration. I love fashion but I am a painter (rooms not pictures) so I rarely have a need to “dress up”. But when I do leave the house in something other than paint spattered clothes, I have been struggling with what to wear in my forties. Everything seems so young or so old. Pair that with the fact that I have 2 teenage daughters that are 5’7 (I’m 5’3), about 125lbs, very fit and look amazing in EVERYTHING they put on…well let’s just say its somewhat of a dissapointment when I look in the mirror.. especially since things are starting to head south if you know what I mean. LOL! Anyway thanks for the inspirational blog and all the super cute outfit ideas that are appropriate for women in thier forties.. You Rock!!

    1. Awwww thanks! That means a lot. It definitely takes some thought and effort to dress your age in your 40s, I agree. And about things going south…. OMYWORD, tell me it doesn’t get worse in the 50s!!! Glad I could provide some fashion inspiration! 🙂

    1. Well….. my husband takes the good ones outside. 🙂 The inside ones are usually me alone with my camera on timer. I have to run across the room and pose before it goes off. It’s really graceful, ha!
