Closet Confessions #FashionFriday

I am shamelessly borrowing this idea from InStyle magazine — one of my guilty pleasures! I just got my April copy in the mail and I thought this was fun. I hope you’ll join me! Leave your answers in the comments, or write your own post and link up!

Closet Confessions Poll

Can your shoes usually be found:

  1. stacked in their original boxes
  2. piled in a heap
  3. neatly arranged on a rack

Unfortunately, I will have to go with number 2.

While I do save the shoe boxes to my nicer shoes, and thanks to EasyClosets I have shelves to line them up on, more often than not there is a huge pile of frequently worn shoes in a heap on the floor of my closet . . . and scattered about my bedroom . . . and bathroom . . . and kitchen and family room and lined up on the stairs ready to be taken up. I’m a bit of a slob.

Which shades rule your wardrobe?

  1. mostly neutrals
  2. black, black and more black
  3. lots of bold hues

Hm… a few years ago I’d have said mostly black, but right now, I think my closet is pretty colorful. Tell me what you think.

How are your clothes organized?

  1. organized? uh, define organized.
  2. by color
  3. by occasion

It’s not that I don’t have a system; it’s just that I can’t seem to use it. Every once in a blue moon, I will organize everything by type and then by color. And I do have formal stuff separate. But then I often end up with a hodge-podge. Thanks to the way my rods are positioned, I do keep pants together, dresses together, and tops together. I guess my answer would be “all of the above”.

The dream addition to your collection is:

  1. an edgy leather jacket
  2. a gorgeous evening gown
  3. a timeless designer handbag
  4. other: you name it!

It’s not very dreamy, but I’d love to find the perfect feminine versatile blazer. It’s a piece that is definitely missing from my wardrobe.

Think fast! You can only keep one of your beloved wardrobe staples. What stays?

  1. my favorite jeans
  2. my hottest dress
  3. a killer pair of shoes

If you know me, I don’t need to bother answering this one! You will have to pry my favorite jeans out of my cold, dead hands.

Fess up — whose closet is neater? You or your guys?

I’d say it’s a draw. We are both pretty sloppy people. I guess that’s good, right? Cuts down on the nagging.

Your biggest closet goal this spring is:

  1. purge the pieces I don’t wear
  2. find ways to use the things I already own
  3. create an organizational system and stick to it

I am always good about getting rid of things. We switch our closets out with every season, and I use that opportunity to donate the pieces I don’t think I’ll wear anymore. And I have an organizational system; I just need to stick to it. SO. I will go with #2 — I want to get better about using things I already own. Although I have to say, I’m doing better with that thanks to my Daily Mom Style posts. They might seem repetitive as it is, but I’d be wearing the same 3 outfits over and over if I didn’t have to show them to the world.

What about you??? Dish!!

  1. SO thankful to see a closet floor that looks just like mine !

At the end of the season I do brush my Uggs, spray them and put them away neatly in a box but otherwise my floor is a jumble of boots, shoes, etc.

  2. I have a nice walk in organizer closet now and it just has piles on the floor- shoes, clothes, bags. I try to hang it all up but they keep getting back on the floor! Also, I just placed a couple online orders for new clothes and REFUSED to let myself buy anything black. If there was another color option, I went with it. That is so hard for me!

  3. I have to say that we are pretty organized right now. My husband and I share a closet and we just put a second bar in so that we have our own sides. Shoes are on a rack, and my everyday clothes have a balance of neutrals and bold colors. My big goal for the spring is to utilize what I have and get out of the yoga pants and sweats of my day to day.

  4. I am pretty good about keeping my shoes put away, but often pile clothes at the end of the day. My husband is ‘neater’ than I am when it comes to the closet, but I take up quite a bit more space. I definitely want to reorganize. I am ‘semi’ there… I tend to separate by color and style, but hang on to clothes for far too long!

  5. This is so fun! I love an organized closet. We are doing some renovations this summer and I am finally going to go for a BIG swanky space (well for NYC standards). Stay tuned!

  6. We have this ridiculous house where the hubs and I actually have to share a closet! It’s torture but it does require that I am committed to being organized and cycling clothing in and out. Too bad I have to do it for him too!

  7. The only reason my closet is organized right now is because of my pregnancy induced nesting. I’ve managed not to mess it up since then. Ha!

  8. When it comes to the shoes I am usually a “heap of shoes” girl but I ‘ve been trying to get better at this…. and over all closet organizing. Its a process.

  9. This is such a fun post. Really, great idea to steal from InStyle. 🙂

My shoes are usually in a pile on the floor, though I have a few nice pairs still in original boxes. My hanging clothes are actually pretty well organized by color. I’d love to add a new designer handbag or steal your idea and get a killer blazer. And I would totally keep my favorite jeans, though, at the moment, I don’t even know what pair that would be!

My husband’s part of the closet is MUCH more organized / neat than mine.

  10. Very fun! I’m with you on most of those answers. Shoes I wear are in a heap bc I need to grab them quickly! I don’t have a favorite pair of jeans right now though. I’d probably save one of my coats. And as far as an addition, I would love a pair of Louboutins I just can’t bring myself to spend that kind of money on shoes. Feels too ridiculous having everyone know what you spent on your shoes. But the nude patent heels are so pretty, SIGH. Your closet is so pretty btw…
