A Night at the Omni Berkshire Place, NYC

I’m writing from the Omni Berkshire Place in NYC! In fact, I’m sitting on this very bed. (I wrote this on Saturday, by the way. I’m home now!)

There is nothing I love more than relaxing in a serene hotel room all by myself. Not that I don’t adore my family, but sometimes it is just nice to get away.

I’m here attending a small, intimate Family Travel Conference organized by my friend, Kim Orlando, along with Eileen Ogintz and Kyle McCarthy of Family Travel Forum. With sponsors such as Disney World, Visit Orlando, Norwegian Cruise Line and Omni Hotels & Resorts, you just know it’s going to be fabulous.

Of course, you know me, I was most excited about hanging with some of my favorite bloggers and experiencing another posh hotel. I have a bit of an obsession with hotels. I know some people hate them, but I can’t explain the feeling of euphoria I get walking into a luxurious hotel suite that is mine, all mine for a day or two.

The Omni Berkshire Place was no disappointment. It is exactly the kind of hotel I like to visit. It’s been recently renovated so it’s the perfect mix of old charm and new conveniences, and it’s classy without being stuffy.

The decor is simple but lovely and perfectly inviting, and the staff is friendly and welcoming and not at all uptight.

This morning after breakfast, I wandered around the hotel taking pictures. It was hard to really capture the beauty of this old building, but I tried. This gorgeous arrangement was the centerpiece of the lobby.

The Omni also tries to cater to families. There was a little kid sack in my room (my kids were invited, but I chose to come alone) which I appreciated. I especially appreciated that it did not include food. It’s a nice touch when a hotel hands out hot cookies upon arrival, but notsomuch when your kids have food allergies that prevent them from partaking.

Some Omni hotels even have kid suites. How cool is that??! That would totally sway me to stay at an Omni if I was traveling with my whole family.

The guest rooms are spacious and inviting. I opted for a king since I was traveling alone.

Never one to turn down an opportunity to try out a new restaurant, I ate breakfast at their Fireside restaurant. It is absolutely gorgeous. I couldn’t stop looking around the whole time I was there. This photo hardly does it justice.

I ordered an omelette with ham, gruyere and thyme, and it was divine. I mentioned upon arrival that I eat gluten-free, and they didn’t even ask about toast; they simply served my omelette with a side of potatoes (that were delish, I might add — you know how sometimes breakfast potatoes can be bland? These weren’t.)

I was a little bit sad to leave, but of course it’s always lovely to be reunited with the fam. When we return to New York with our family, I will definitely consider revisiting the Omni Berkshire Place. It’s the perfect marriage of form and function for families who like to travel in style.

  1. We *love* Omni properties. If there’s one near where we need to go, we’ll stay there, hands down.

If you ever get the chance to stay in the Omni Shoreham in Washington, DC, definitely do so. It’s very cool — lots of history there. Many, many presidential balls were held there. They even have their own resident ghost. 😉

  2. LOVE Omni Hotels!! The one in Philly is amazing. Their kids’ packs are sooo awesome!!!!

What’s funny is my ‘non-blogging’ girlfriend is staying there THIS weekend at the Berkshire hotel. She’s seeing the Lion King with her husband. FUN! Thanks for sharing…now I wanna go! lol

  3. I didn’t know they had kid suites! That is the coolest idea, ever!

My husband used to travel a lot for his old job and has stayed in the Omni in Dallas and Houston a few times. I have been in the Houston one, but never stayed… It was one of the most beautifully decorated and spacious hotels I’ve ever been in. Between them and the Gaylord hotels… I think I could just go from one to the next and not need a house! haha
